WIW: My Winter Version of Lavender/ Grey/ Black

Angie's blog post this morning inspired me to try the color scheme although I've no cold weather lavender.
1/2: Grey NYDJs with a black merino pullover that DS had left behind (Men's BR sweater). Boots are Ecco with buckles cinched to fit.
3/4: Same jeans and sweater with the "lavender" of my JCrew coat and Rack scarf. Now I have on Bare Traps booties with a bit of a heel.
Are the skinny jeans too skinny for a senior citizen? Boots or booties? I could have worn the new wedge booties but wanted to use black footwear today. Was that a mistake? I didn't get a photo but carried a pewter metallic satchel and wore black leather gloves. I 'd love your suggestions and comments for what works and what can be improved.

Those colours are fabulous on you Joy!  Love all the photos.  And no, the skinny jeans are not too skinny for a senior!  (I'm one and I love my skinnies)  I like both the boots and the booties - they give the outfits an entirely different look, i.e. casual or sophisticated casual.

Well aren't you a pretty bundle of lilac and grey. xo

  • MuseumGal replied 10 years ago

The skinny jeans look wonderful on you, as does the whole outfit, both iterations.

  • CocoLion replied 10 years ago

3/4 is so perfect!  I prefer the booties.  Jeans are not too skinny for you, no worries.

  • Suz replied 10 years ago

Joy, when you look as great as you do, no jeans are too skinny. And these are definitely not too skinny. This is so, so pretty. I love the coat on you.

  • Greyscale replied 10 years ago

Those jeans are perfect on you. Not too skinny by any means. Bravo.

  • Joy replied 10 years ago

These jeans have been orphans because I thought they may look too fitted. You are giving me the confidence to wear them more. The color is most true in 3/4.
    High five, Kiwibird.
    Angie, xoxo.
Museum Gal, Denise, Suz, and Greyscale, I'm glad that you think the skinny jeans look ok on me. Suz, I am so glad to have found the coat. It has been getting lots of wear.

Joy, I think the skinny jeans look terrific.  In fact you've inspired me.  I've been looking for straight leg jeans but haven't found any.  Perhaps I'll try some skinnies, but I won't look as good as you!

  • Suja replied 10 years ago

You look so hip and chic! Love the pea coat.

  • Joy replied 10 years ago

Catnip, I got talked into these jeans and their fit by the sales assistant. I think she actually felt that the next size down was the best fit. I have pretty good luck with skinny jeans when I size up . Try several sizes. If you have a smart phone with the YLF ap, you can even post from the dressing room to get feedback here.
Thank you, Suja. I love the sound of hip and chic :)

You look wonderful, period.  And hey, if you were wearing ski pants - I don't ski but imagine people still wear form fitting ski pants - nobody would ask whether they were too form-fitting for a senior!  I recently read an article that talked about how the whole world refuses to give up their skinnies, young, old, men, women. If the whole world is wearing a look, it's now conventional and fair game for everyone whom it pleases.

  • Raisin replied 10 years ago

Wow so pretty Joy! I think lavender was made for you'!

  • replied 10 years ago

    It all works!

  • E replied 10 years ago

How beautiful! The shapes and colours and just gorgeous on you. And the skinnies aren't too skinny. :)

  • kkards replied 10 years ago

well you look so fab, i think the skinnies are perfect.

its so interesting that with the coat on, the skinnies seem to be a lighter color, than when paired just with the sweater. a reminder that color is in part defined by what you pair it with.

  • Sarah A replied 10 years ago

Love both iterations of this outfit! But with the coat and scarf you just light up so i'll vote that version my favorite. I think the jeans look like a great fit as well, not too fitted, wear and enjoy :)

  • Joy replied 10 years ago

The light wasn't very good when I took the first view with the black sweater. I wish that you could see it better to comment on the fit. The band at the bottom gives it some structure but the shoulder seams are just over my shoulders and emphasize how wide they are.
Vildy, it is interesting that no one wants tho give up skinny pants. And I'd not thought of ski pants.
Raisin, lavender can be tricky for me. I need to use my summer tinted moisturizer to deepen my skin tone just a tad. It can be one of my best or worst colors, depending on the amount of blue and it's clarity.
Parkmommychic and E, I'm happy that you feel this is working. Thank you.
Kkards and Sarah, I'm taking your comments about color to heart. They reinforce my goal of moving toward using more light shades. I hope that, as I do, Angie and the Forum can keep me from becoming the little old lady in pastels cliche.

    So pretty and put together!

  • carambola replied 10 years ago

You look lovely in lilac and grey! The jeans are fab on you - wear with confidence.

  • Thistle replied 10 years ago

Gorgeous!! I love the outfit on you with the fluid fit of the sweater, and the coat is simply smashing on you.

  • Susie replied 10 years ago

So pretty, Joy! I think it is very cool that you wore your son's sweater! I think the black boots/booties were a good choice with the sweater and both work well. That jacket looks great on you and with the outfit.

  • Jaime replied 10 years ago

Joy you look simply fabulous in these outfits. I especially love the boots with the jeans and the beautiful jacket in the second one.

  • Lisa replied 10 years ago

I think both outfits work.  The skinnies look slim but not skin tight, a great find in the sea of skin tight jeans lately.  And I like the booties in the second look because it looks like you have a black top on so that bookends nicely.  Lilac is a pretty color on you!

  • Joy replied 10 years ago

Nancylee, Carambola, Thistle, and Susie, thank you each for your encouragement. The grey jeans will no longer be orphans. Thistle, I'm enjoying the fluid fit of the sweater too. I wore it again today for warmth on a cold windy day. The best part is that it isn't a magnet for white dog hair.

  • Karie replied 10 years ago

The jeans are not too skinny, and your footwear choices are fantastic. And senior citizen? I see no senior citizen, I see a beautiful woman wearing gorgeous outfits!

  • Joy replied 10 years ago

Shevia, thank you for commenting. It was fun to wear the boots with tucked in jeans for a change. I'm glad that it looks ok.
Lisa, you are right that I'm wearing the black sweater in the 1st outfit in the 2nd also, so the booties do bookend it. The grey skinnies are probably 2 years old but haven't been worn much. The more I wash them, the more I like their color.

  • Joy replied 10 years ago

    Karie, you are a sweetheart!

  • Parsley replied 10 years ago

You look wonderful in lilac and gray, Joy!
And you look wonderful in skinnies, too.  You don't look the least bit "senior", so wear them as long as you can look so fabulous in them!
I plan to keep wearing mine, too. Seniors unite!
Both boots and booties look fab, so wear whichever one strikes your fancy. I hope you'll start giving those gray pants the wear they deserve- they look great!

  • Joy replied 10 years ago

Parsley, no way are you anywhere near your dotage years! But I appreciate your kind words. Yes, Seniors unite. I predict that it will get better, after all, the ranks are growing daily.
