WIW: MaryK Copycat Casualized

When I saw this outfit on MaryK: http://youlookfab.com/welookfa.....s-all-over, I knew I wanted to try to copy it because I have that color pencil skirt and a blouse with similar colors that had only been worn with white bottoms.
1. Halogen seamed pencil skirt
Blouse: Ralph Lauren silk that is not a flattering style but has survived edits because it's open breezy style and fabric are wonderful on hot summer days
Belt: thrifted
Sandals: MeToo
2. Rafaella thrifted white blazer standing in until I find the perfect white blazer.
I then casualized the outfit for my day after spying the bluish-green skirt in the closet.
3. NYDJ skirt, thrifted utility belt
4. Added AE white denim jacket. I may add white Cons later but plan to wear #3 out shopping this morning.
Mary, thank you for the inspiration. I plan to wear 1/2 out to eat this evening. Both skirt and blouse will probably get new life because of you.
I welcome comments and suggestions for improvements. The blouse, white blazer and cobalt bag have been edging toward the donation bag yet fill a hole. Should I make replacements of any or all a higher priority? Is the white belt too high contrast?

Great casualization of Mary K's outfit, Joy.

i like both of these looks. the use of color is great, i think the white belt looks great, espeically when you put the white denim jacket with the skirt and top.

Squee!!!  SO FUN!!!  I love them all, and I think #4 is my very fave of all!  I love the white belt with the white denim jacket!

I do so love a great copycat, whether I am the copier or the copy-ee!!  :D

I have two white blazers and wear them like crazy all summer long.  So I will always vote "yay" on a great white blazer for summer!  And sometimes a cobalt bag is just the perfect thing, too!  :)

Oh my goodness, are you ever clever! These are both beautiful. And what do you mean that blouse isn't flattering? I understand the neckline concerns, but in this case I think the colours and the lovely shape of the sleeve put all attention there!

You look beautiful in both of these!

I think the blouse is very flattering on you and the colors obviously work well for you. It does seem like a great white blazer would be a good addition for you.

Both incarnations are fabulous but i esp. like #2. The white blazer looks so fresh and lovely with your hair :)

Gorgeous colors and excellent copycat!  I agree with others that the blouse is working well on you.  #4 is my fav, too.

#3 is my favorite, but #4 looks great too - what a great Homage to MaryK!

  • Debra replied 10 years ago

She is definitely an inspiration :) I love how you have copycatted into casual,
    Perfect.......

Thank you all so much for your comments and helping me figure out what works best. Suz, you are right that my issue with the watercolor blouse is the neckline. I bought it before finding out what necklines I should wear. It has a drawstring that is drawn up just as much as it will go and still look ok. I hope that you are right and that the colors and sleeves are distracting.
Mary, i am envious of your white blazer. Since I don't have an office job, I don't often have a need for anything more dressy than the denim jacket, but that doesn't keep me from wanting one :). Susie, I am keeping an eye out for the right white blazer.
Angie, I love that 3/4 are "sassy."

Lyn and Debra, Mary has such fun with fashion and color that it's contagious isn't it?

I love it, Joy. It *is* just like MaryK, only not... :D
