Sal’s July Challenge: we begin (scroll down for Day 2 &3)

Sal is wearing all her seasonal clothes in July plus an accessory and planning to post the results. I joined the challenge but picked summer bottoms, a different one each day ( if I have enough), with an accessory or more than one and a topper. Today’s outfit is based around some Universal Standard embroidered jeans bought last summer. I used a gold colored EF linen tank to pick up the gold color in the embroidery, metallic gold espadrilles ( Mark Fisher), a Kate Spade metallic gold bag, and gold jewelry. My topper is a thrifted dark red linen Talbot’s jacket. Accessories are gold bracelets ( #4!) and gold hoop earrings and a silk floral scarf bought at the Metrapolitan Museum of Art in NYC, and a thrifted dark red leather belt with gold hardwear. The red jacket is not making me happy but is a useful unlined linen jacket in a red that is not my best red but works well with several tops. The jeans are mid rise on me and this may be the last season for them. What do you think?
I will plan to add my outfits for a week to this thread. I am looking for help in what to keep and what to pass on. The shoes are the newest item in this lot.
The silk floral scarf (#5) may work with the black and white zebra top for some pattern mixing.

Love the scarf with the jeans! Colorwise it all looks really good, but I think I'd like a longer jacket with it-since it's 3 horizontal lines at the belly as is. It should be perfect with dresses though!

Great maximal look! Love the gold espadrilles with the embroidered jeans!

  • Sal replied 4 years ago

The accessories make the show here between the shoes, scarf and bracelets that are all super!!

My eye has shifted with jeans rise and I do slightly prefer a higher rise - but these still look absolutely fine.

Joy, you have the best outfit ideas! The floral scarf works so well with the jeans, and the outfit colours are just yummy.

I LOVE the trendy embroidered jeans with the William Morris scarf! Great juxtaposition.

I agree with suntiger, I’d prefer a longer topper with this outfit.

    Great shoes too!

  • Joy replied 4 years ago

Sarah and suntiger, I will look for a longer topper. I have black, white (bone) , navy, pink grey and tan in longer lengths. I will try shopping my closet.

Joy , you just kill me with your fabulous fashion. You are the coolest ever:)

    Great shoes!

  • Joy replied 4 years ago

Taylor, you just made my day, no, I will be walking on air for at least a week.
Jessikams, these shoes are favorites. So comfortable.

I really like the red cardi actually, it doesn't overpower you or the outfit. Nice jeans!

    :)

Super! I love the warmth that the gold brings into the outfit. Gorgeous embroidery on the jeans.

  • Mainelady replied 4 years ago

Joy, you, your style and accessories are all so fab! I LOVE this combination and if you hadn’t mentioned the rise of the jeans, I doubt I would have noticed. My eyes are drawn to your fab accessories (of course they are)! I’ll look forward to your upcoming posts.

I love patterns mixing and colors in this outfit. And fun gold accessories. I am curious to know what have you learned from this outfit- are you passing on the jeans?

  • nemosmom replied 4 years ago

I love the scarf with your jeans, and wonder if the rise won't bother you as much with a longer topper. I do like how the red brings out the red in the embroidery.

  • Joy replied 4 years ago

Anchie, I like these jeans better than I ever thought I would. I plan to wear them a lot and probably then pass them on. I suspect I will tire of them.
Nemosmom, I suspect you are right about wearing a longer topper. The rise is not really low and they stay up pretty well.
Mainelady, your wonderful bracelets have inspired me to make sets. I am on a hunt for orange ones, but they are hard to find.
Jane, the embroidery is what convinced me that I needed these jeans. It is well done and has not come undone at all. Thank you all for your lovely comments and ideas.

    YAY Joy!

  • delurked replied 4 years ago

I like this a lot, and have some similar elements to recreate for myself. Wishing I could steal the shoes (and then make them several sizes bigger for my own foot :) ).

  • Joy replied 4 years ago

Delurked, the gold espadrilles were found by a shopping frien on the sale rack at DSW. They may still have them. They are comfortable all day.

  • Joy replied 4 years ago

Suntiger, I can see what you mean about the length of that jacket. I will see if I need it with any dresses.

  • Bonnie replied 4 years ago

I really like those embroidered jeans and the fab way you have accessorized your outfit.

Day 2: mostly consignment pieces, all but EF very old blush topper, scarf, silver bracelet (all gifts), and pink glass earrings from the Denver Botanical Garden shop. The consignment grey silk EF lantern pants are favorites for warm weather. They are light and airy to wear yet the styling creates some structure. What do you think of the zebra top? Are the ruffles too much? On a really hot day, the V neck is high enough to wear the top without the cami under it.
The photos start with the outfit with topper and color block scarf. Others show details, especially accessories.
It the pattern mix of scarf and blouse too much. Too much jewelry? ( I usually stick to bracelets alone or just with earrings in summer).

  • kellygirl replied 4 years ago

Fun layering and eclectic styling. I think it's fab. The ruffles are super fun. You look fab!

  • Joy replied 4 years ago

    Thank you, Kellygirl.

  • Angie replied 4 years ago

Outfit #1 - LOVE the gold Joy, and vote pass on the jeans and jacket. Ill-fitting.

Outfit #2 - fun! Do your lantern hems need hemming? The adornments are dead right and wonderfully Maximal Joy.

  • Joy replied 4 years ago

Thank you so much, Angie. This is what I need to know. The lantern pants are worn full length here but could be easily shortened. I often roll up the legs to several inches above the ankle. I will add today’s olive outfit later this morning as I still need to walk and exercise.

  • Joy replied 4 years ago

July3: consignment olive utility crops and poncho. I am wearing an olive tank under the poncho, Munro flats (#4), bead bracelets made-by-me (#5), gold hoop earrings, Bison bag from an art show(see #2) and thrifted small gauzy olive scarf used twisted and knotted as a necklace. Ted Baker sunglasses. ( not sure about this shape on me.)

I am really enamored with the shoe/bag complement from Day 2.  That is exactly what I want to build in time.

  • Joy replied 4 years ago

Sterling, the shoe / bag compliment is something I learned here. It really is helpful when making outfits.

  • Helena replied 4 years ago

Terrific outfits! So much interest without looking overdone. I love the jewellery, and the cat eye sunnies look fab on you!

  • nemosmom replied 4 years ago

More great looks, Joy! I love the crochet (?) detail in the white and olive top. Your jewelry collection is incredibly cool.

  • lyn67 replied 4 years ago

3xgreat look, love the first as your maximal (all the golds, the pattern and  floral embroidery) then the animalic softness of the second:-) with the lantern pants and  the ethnic/boho/cargo  vibe in 3-you're really our Eclectic Queen!

  • Joy replied 4 years ago

Torontogirl, I was wondering what others thought of those cat eye sunnies. I got them because of the white rather pearlized frames but sometimes wear a similar white-framed Tiffany pair that are not cat-eye shape.
Nemosmom, I am glad the poncho with crochet work looks ok. I wondered if if was overpowering. Thank you for the compliment on my jewelry. I enjoy wearing it most in warm weather when one does not need to worry about coat sleeves and catching things on sweaters or knit scarves.
Lyn67, thank you for your uplifting comment. I have tried to fit into other style boxes but my eclectic preferences win out.
A new thread for my challenge outfits has been started beginning with July 4th. I will post the next few outfits there.
