Dress challenge: Zebra edition

Inspired by Angie’s dress challenge and her zebra fabness post, this is what I wore to church today: an old zebra summer top, tucked into an EF black tube skirt, black zipper necklace from an art show, black and white-ish pointy flats, an old black and white bag. EF long black jacket ( it is cool and raining).
I tried without the jacket (#1) and breathed a sigh of relief when I put the jacket on (#2-4). Less pattern visibility.
#5 is a zebra scarf I own. I also have a zebra print belt but no photo.
What do you think? Styling suggestions?

Love it with those shoes! Help send the eye up and down and around the outfit entire.

Vildy, I will be very sad when these shoes are too worn out to wear. It is hard to find a selection of black and white flats. I used to have some Chantelle style white with black toe caps but they wore out years ago. I keep looking for something like that in my price range but have not seen them.

What Vildy said! Great outfit top to toe. One of my greatest lessons from Angie is: never buy boring shoes!

What a gorgeous outfit - very chic.  The shoes are perfect - I like it both with and without the jacket.

Scarf would be fun with an all black outfit with these shoes again.

Runcarla, that is a great lesson from Angie. Actually nearly all her essential pieces are not boring but have a little extra design feature. It took me awhile to get used to statement shoes like shiny metallics, but now I have two pair of sequined flats that I love to wear.
Sal, that is a great idea to wear the zebra scarf with a black outfit and the same shoes. I may do some pattern mixing with black capris and/or jacket with tiny white polka dots.

Love this outfit! The shoes work with it perfectly too. I think the scarf would easily work with any monochrome outfit or solid dress.

Very chic and timeless Joy - great styling here :)

This outfit was very easy to adapt for playing with grandchildren on the floor by changing the skirt fit pants (photo 1).
Thank you, Shevia and Lisa. I am thrilled that such stylish women approve!

It’s a super outfit and the shoes are gorgeous!

Love it! I could see that top paired with your new yellow pants too!

this is fab! both verisions are great...love it without the jacket, but i understand what you are saying...and the shoes are just the icing on the cake

Beautiful and so very striking. I love the black and white shoes, so perfect with the black suit and zebra top. You wear monochrome so well with your beautiful hair.

Gorgeous Joy. Love the black and white colour block mix.
Do you have any florals that you can pattern mix with the scarf? I would treat the scarf like stripes (which tend to look good with florals).

  • Joy replied 4 years ago

Suntiger, I will try the zebra top with the yellow pants. I wore the yellow pants this week with a yellow top and white jean jacket and white sneakers. DH refer to me as a little banana! Maybe the zebra top would help de-fruit the pants.
Brooklyn, using zebra with a floral is a great idea. I will have to look at my tops but florals are in short supply.
Thank you all for your supportive comments. I need to work at freeing the zebra from a jacket if you think it looks ok on its own.

KILLER ALL ROUND. I especially love the dress outfit.

Joy, you look really elegant, as always. I love how you always show us an example of Angie’s outfit suggestions. It’s inspiring.

What a fantastic top on you! And I agree with Vildy and Carla - awesome shoes!

  • anchie replied 4 years ago

I really like this top - no need to cover it. And great styling with the skirt - you selected perfect bag and shoes. It seems there is no challenge you can’t do ;)

I like your styling. But you have so many options. Break up the black and white with a red or almost any other color cardigan or jacket, same with skirt or pants, crops, etc. Also a denim jacket. Or no topper but a scarf or necklace with color would also break up the zebra a bit (if that’s your goal).

Really sharp! You are a zebra natural. All the outfit details are perfect but that top is terrific on you and could be worn many ways.

  • Joy replied 4 years ago

Thank you all for your consideration and suggestions. Angie a KILLER definitely means it’s worth repeating.
Barbara Diane you are right I do have many options. I found a new-to-me blush and grey zebra print silk Cabi silk summer top that could be worn with the same black skirt and jacket.

    Yep! Killer! :)
