Inspired by Angie: My Pink October Coat

This is a quickly thrown together Angie- inspired outfit from her blog post today to show you my Goodwill shocking pink trench from Jones New York. I found this last fall and it is the perfect weight for our spring/fall cool days with lots (maybe too much) room to layer underneath.
I also tried to do a casual inspired version of black pants (in this case, back Kut Diana skinnies) and white patterned sweater. The pattern, if you use your imagination, may be the black tank peeking through the open weave H&M white pullover and snake belt and SE Petty Pythons.
I'll probably keep the coat for awhile even if it is too big as I enjoy the color. Suggestions for wearing it are appreciated. Is it worth getting the sleeves shortened? Does the oversized fit look ok? I welcome your comments and honest opinions.

What a gorgeous color on you, Joy!
It's hard to tell exactly on the fit, but if it's a little big could you have it taken in?

  • Suz replied 10 years ago

Wow, Joy! That is so much fun. There are times when I envy you eclectics with large wardrobes. You can just pull amazing things out of the closet seemingly at random...

    What Parsley said re fit.

Wow, that colour looks amazing on you. I think you can get away without making any alterations to it if you don't want to - slightly overlarge but not bulky in fit. Have you tried it over any of your new dresses yet?

With skirts getting longer, coats getting bigger, and pink being promoted for SS 2014 you may be even happier with this find a few months or a year from now! (Don't you love it when a thrifted item becomes the next new thing?) Wear it, enjoy, and show us more pics.

    Sorry about the double post.

How fun to see you in this outfit today. Go Team Pink, and you as fab as ever, Joy.

Oooh! I like the oversized fit on you.  It looks intentional and still crisp, even though it is a looser fit. Really nice!

    Fantastic!!!

I think it looks great oversized.

Finally back to comment and thank you. I was thrilled that several of you thought the coat looks ok as is.  Parsley and Suz, the spot that things are always oversized on me is through the bust and under the arms (low armholes) which I've found to be usually too expensive to have altered.  You can see that this is a bit big through the shoulders too, although not enough that I look like i'm swimming in it.  It will probably be better to keep an eye out for a better fitting trench in pink and then replace this one.  Angie's wool coat is too pricey for me and the wool would be too heavy for our usual spring/fall temperatures.
Suz, I can't believe I only had 2 or 3 coats (trench and winter) before YLF.  All but maybe 3 that I have now are thrifted or consignment and I've regretted leaving a couple in the shop.
Dizzy Lizzy I've not tried it with my new dresses and need to do that.  It will be a lot of color!
JG, you are so right.  I hardly ever wear pink and am so happy that this coat came home with me.  My SIL has some sort of sixth sense about what will be coming into fashion and home décor before it does.  I need to listen to her.
Angie, I could swear that I posted on your blog this morning but must have not hit submit.  I love wearing pink for those courageous friends who have fought or are still fighting the big C.  They are stronger than I am and my heros.

How did I know that pink would be fabulous on you? The generous fit looks intentional.

  • replied 10 years ago

Fit doesn't look too over sized and the color is gorgeous.

  • Debora replied 10 years ago

Very cool! You just absolutely glow in pink, Joy. Love!

  • catgirl replied 10 years ago

Well, could you be any more on target?  I am considering using my hot pink Coach bag in honor of these coats!

  • replied 10 years ago

What a fun find Joy! I love the outfit you have on underneath. The understated neutrals are perfect with the hot pink!

  • Jaime replied 10 years ago

    Gasp! You are awesome Joy!

Joy, you always look amazing! The pink coat works so well with your colouring!

    I love it too.

What a fun outfit, and you look terrific as always! I like your python matching and the black peeking through the sweater weave (which I can't really see, but I can imagine). The coat is such a great color on you. It looks a little large, yes, but also on trend in that way. It looks like a pretty straight style, yes? To me it looks like it's in the man-coat genre.

  • Ingunn replied 10 years ago

Pink is definitely your color, Joy. You look radiant in it. I don't think the coat looks too big. Fab outfit!

  • lyn67 replied 10 years ago

    Wow, just love it, Joy!

  • Hil replied 10 years ago

A beautiful coat! You look so fab!!!

  • Helenedith replied 10 years ago

  • Lantana replied 10 years ago

    Love this to pieces Joy.

  • Robidi replied 10 years ago

    Beautiful!

  • Sarah A replied 10 years ago

Love it Joy! To me the fit is hard to see but my initial impression is that the slightly oversized fit works esp. in this bright color. :)

  • Nicole D replied 10 years ago

Just have to tell you how fab that is!  I like the oversized fit.  Seems deliberate so I think it works.

  • Day Vies replied 10 years ago

Freaking adorable! I love the simple black and white/cream ensemble with the pettys. I'm copying! My coat is a muted red/dark pink but I'm SO copying!
