WIW: Angie's Post Ensemble Attempt

Today I made a quick attempt at cropped top over boot cuts as in Angie's post. It's not very polished. Does this work on me? Is the top too short? Not drapey enough?
These are old jeans. Are they too long for these booties? I'd love to know your thoughts. Shall I pursue this look or forget it? How can it be improved?
The last photo is or should be hidden as it accidentally got added

Joy, you look fabulous as always! Wow, you just keep hitting them out of the ballpark again and again. I love this creamy sweater with the jeans ant Pettys.

I do think the jeans look a bit long for these particular booties. If they are dragging on the ground they would be too long. You want them just to skim the ground, I believe. Or skim the air right above the ground, if possible.

I don't think the top is too short. It is true that the side vent sort of mixes things up a bit -- but it doesn't bother me.

You look fantastic in this silhouette. Please repeat!!

    Perfect!!

I love this look on you Joy - the sweater works beautifully with the Petty's. I think the jeans may be just a wee smidge too long.

I agree about the jeans length. I love the top with the Pettys!

A little hem job and you'll be there. Love this silhouette on you!

You look fab in everything, Joy! I love the silhouette on you - please repeat. Pant length is not my specialty, but I agree with Suz and others that you need a little more height or a new shorter hem. Otherwise it looks perfect as is.

Aren't you just too fabulous for words, you stunning creature. xo

  • Joy replied 10 years ago

Thank you for the encouraging words for this look. I had my doubts about pulling it off with my short stature and apple tendencies, but sometimes lots going on in the midriff area can act as camouflage.
The cropped pullover is from H&M and works well for these warm autumn days. I've cut the scratchy tag out but think it's a cotton/linen/nylon blend.
The boot cuts worked with booties with a bit higher heel but they have a rounder toe. I've found that the winter part of the closet holds a couple pair of wider legged trousers that should also work with Angie's ensemble ideas when it gets cooler.

I think this is great!  The simple top and jeans let the eye focus on the totally cool patterned accessories.

I think you pull the silhouette off beautifully, Joy. It is hard to say but id the jeans lay on the ground they are too long.
I have to be honest and say I do think this sweater a bit short. It may have been better if it had a welt and not a slit on the side. BUT I ma very sensitive to length and proportions so take it with the grain of salt. BTW this top may be perfect with the skirts - I think you have some flared ones, right? Try it!

  • Joy replied 10 years ago

Sveta, I agree with you that this sweater would be much better with a welt. That's a great idea to try it with a flared skirt to to still have volume on volume. I bought it off a sale rack with the thought that I might be able to wear it over a simple sleeveless dress instead of a cardi or jacket. A skirt may work better.

Love the combination - especially with the pettys. I will never not like jeans and a white/cream top. I think the jeans are a wee but long with the pettys but this could easily be remedied with a higher heel (do you really want to go there?) or taking up the hem.

This is just extra fab, Joy! thanks for being such a brilliant model for us and showing us that there could be some gems hidden in our closet too. I know I have a pair of these in there somewhere.

You made this work so well. Love it!

I love the outfit on you, Joy. The pants length looks fine--I'd let the back be the judge--if they are on the ground, they may need to be hemmed. Otherwise, good to go. You look so wonderful in cream, and the belt and boots are wonderful with the top. Length of top is fine, too, with this faux-semi-tuck treatment. Bravo!

So classy looking! I love it!

  • Joy replied 10 years ago

You are convincing me that I can wear this look! Day, you are right. I really don't want to go with a higher heel, especially with these jeans.
Firecracker, they just barely skim the ground in back but not enough that I can't stride. Maybe eating a big meal before wearing the jeans will fix the problem :)

  • Lantana replied 10 years ago

I agree with the former comments that you absolutely can and should wear this silhouette.
    You have apple tendencies?
They must be like recessive genes, hidden in your DNA. You always look trim to me Joy.

  • Jeanie replied 10 years ago

Actually, I think you look very polished.  It's like a very sophisticated version of jeans and a white T.

  • Lisa replied 10 years ago

I think this works.  The top is casual but that pairs well with the booties which are more sleek in vibe.  Nice job!

  • Jaime replied 10 years ago

This looks absolutely wonderful on you!
