Column of black 4 ways

Loving black in summer, I want to thank Angie for 4 black summer outfit ideas. After playing in my closet, here is what I came up with:
1: tunic, crops, metallic: EFblack silk pants, rolled; black EF assymetrical tunic, metallic shoes and bag
Photo1
2: Black Lite: Black pleated top and dark blue denim pencil skirt, white loafers. Photo 2.
3: Casual dress and white flats and bag.
EF shift dress with KS shoulder bag and AGL sneakers. Photos 3/4
4: Shorts, Silk, Straw: I don’t wear shorts so used these Citron of Santa Monica black silk crops, old black silk shirt, Pikolinos old leather straw-like peep-toes and vintage straw bag. Photo 5-7. I’d appreciate your comments and suggestions. Do I dare wear any of these outfits?

These are super outfits, they look cool and elegant. The white accents in 3/4 are especially fresh.i also like your shorts / silk / straw combination.

  • Sal replied 5 years ago

These are all great looks but my very favourite is the last one.  I love the shorts/shoes/blouse/bag combination!!

  • kellygirl replied 5 years ago

The last one is killer! All look great but the last one looks extra stylish and refined!

  • bridgie replied 5 years ago

I think you can and should wear any and all these outfits.  My personal favorites/items are the vintage straw shoes and bag.  The sneaks look like mesh and leather on my screen but are good even if they are not.  I like the white bag a lot.  I like outfits 5 and 2 best.  You can remix all your black a lot of different ways.

I am glad you are enjoying you clothes especially while your husband is recuperating.  That is a great diversion for you, which you do need.

Clothes and my wardrobe  have always been my first go-to during stressful times

P.S.  And I am sure hubby enjoys seeing you looking sharp and pretty!

Birdgie, thank you for your kind words. I do dress carefully when going to the hospital to see DH. He is working so hard to fight back through terrific pain. It helps me too. Playing in the closet creating these outfits based on Angie's blog ensembles was a great distress reliever tonight. He may be coming home Tuesday if all goes well.
Jane, Sal and kellygirl, I like that last outfit best too. Birdgie, the sneaks are all leather but have the woven leather detail that looks like mesh. It allows air flow and are a sandal substitute in hot weather.

So I really like outfits 1, 3 and 4. For some reason I don't like outfit 2. Can't really articulate it- I never like this sort of thing on me, like a sort of top and then pencil-type skirt outfits? Kind of cuts the person in half? Ignore me happily though, just a personal poison eye.

  • jussie replied 5 years ago

These all look fabulous on you! I like them all but if I had to choose the dress is my fave. Column of black in summer looks quite fresh to me.

  • Jessikams replied 5 years ago

YES!! I especially like the outfit with white shoes and bag.

  • Mainelady replied 5 years ago

Joy, you are so fab! I love all of these on you. My favorites are #1 with the metallic and #4. I really like the slim silhouettes on you. Now you have me wanting to wear black today!

  • lyn67 replied 5 years ago

Great visuals Joy, each of these is  perfect for   modelling Angie's recomms! YLF in summer blacks, too!:-)

You make it look easy and elegant.  It does not look too hot or too "heavy" on you.  This once again confirms why you are my style icon.  Best wishes.

  • bj1111 replied 5 years ago

Love it all. Especially love look#3 where the white shoes and purse really make your beautiful hair pop. Love look#4 for the silhouette —very fun and sophisticated. I would wear these in a heart beat tho I wonder about black and the Southwest.

Sorry about hubs. Hoping that he comes home as expected. Please take care of you. Caregivers are prone to ignoring their needs.

Loving black on you (in summer), I want to tell you how beautiful you look, how sleek and elegant yet natural.
First, I applaud the footwear choice, especially color: nude or close to skintone / delicate metallic is the secret for the column of black to take full central stage and for keeping the outfit light.
5-7 is my favorite, although all are nice.
    Yes, do wear them!
#2: I am not a fan of the top on this one. I feel the skirt's waist should be more apparent, you have a beautiful figure. Without necessarily making it body con or even full tucking, I would see a cute demure little black tee with this. I think the proportions would work better. Now the top's hemline is low, beautiful skirt's hem is below the knee, and footwear is flat: if the top's hemline was higher, it would look lighter. This is just very personal opinion.

  • krishnidoux replied 5 years ago

Joy, you are a strong, beautiful woman. I didn't realize what was going on. hugs to you.

  • replied 5 years ago

They are all great, and my favourites are the dress, and the silky shorts outfit.  Not sure about the sheerness of the top in the second outfit .....or was that just the camera flash exposing it?

  • always trying replied 5 years ago

All look great, especially love the black dress.  I love the way you wear the lite shoes with the black.

  • Mirjana replied 5 years ago

First, you can wear all , great outfits and suit you perfect. You style them fantastic.I especially love #3 with white, supper summery, then # 1 , but the outfit with shorts is also nice.

  • Suz replied 5 years ago

You are amazingly creative with your fantastically stocked eclectic closet! These are all great and how brilliant that you could do a version of all 4 looks. My favourites are the simple dress with white accents and the shorts outfit. Sophisticated!

I hope your husband is recovering well, Joy.

  • Liesbeth replied 5 years ago

Great interpretations of Angie's post! 2 looks a little too hot / formal to my eye, but everything else can be worn just like that. I especially like 1 and 5-7.

  • Angie replied 5 years ago

#3 and #5 are my faves. KILLER. Love the way you broke up the black, Joy.

  • Bonnie replied 5 years ago

You look lovely in black and have come up with some great summer outfits. The accessories in the last outfit are my favorites. There's something cool about wicker in hot weather. I find making outfits a great stress reliever, too. Hugs to you and DH.

  • texstyle replied 5 years ago

LOVE the last one - fantastic Joy!  I also like the white accents of the dress.

  • Sara L. replied 5 years ago

I think these are all great.  I especially like the first outfit with the metallic accents.  I want to copy it soon.

  • anne replied 5 years ago

Love the outfit in 5-7, and also, alone of everyone - I like number 2! I think it very elegant. (they are all good though)

  • Jenn replied 5 years ago

Love your black outfits, Joy. You look very chic!

  • replied 5 years ago

Joy, you look beautiful and interesting study in creating variety considering you eliminated almost all color other than black!

  • JAileen replied 5 years ago

Do you dare? Well, I love #3/4 and #1 especially.

  • Joy replied 5 years ago

Sitting in the hospital waiting for DH to go into yet another surgery ...pacemaker/defibrillator this time, it is wonderful to be able to read your uplifting comments.
I will start to address them but expect to be interrupted.
Outfit 1: a favorite with some. I like metallic, especially pewter and silver, with black and would wear this. Sara, please show us your version. I would probably add an EF linen cardigan that has black and grey woven in a pattern.
Outfit 2: the skirt and least favorite. I was doing these in a hurry and did not stop to put a cami under that rather sheer top as I usually wear it. Lisa, no flash was used but I lightened the photo to try to show detail. Krishnidoux, I agree that the proportions are off. I like your idea of a black tee. The top is very full and I am surprised I bought it because it is polyester, but usually a sheer black is a better choice for me than deep black. Usually when wearing dark blue with black, I add a scarf with those two colors and a bit of white. This outfit needs ore work. Anne, thank you. I will try to keep any elegance if changes are made.

  • Joy replied 5 years ago

    Outfit 3:
Seems to be a favorite. The black dress with white shoes and bag. Pre-YLF I would have been putting black accessories with this dress, but I like the white, especially for warmer weather. If I need a topper, it will probably be a white linen jean-jacket style jacket or an open jacket in black and white. Angie, your Killer has brightened my day when I really need it (DH back in heart surgery right now. ).
    Outfit 4:
I am thrilled that my black shorts substitute is getting approval. I will wear this again.

  • Becky replied 5 years ago

    Love, love, love #1!

  • The Cat replied 5 years ago

Joy, of course, you dare wear them all! :-) GREAT examples of how to wear black in a summer-ish way.

  • 3style replied 5 years ago

I’m all for clothing to keep the spirit up, even if it’s in a non traditional way like lots of black. Incredible to believe that this is such a challenging moment for you and yours. The pleated top needs rethinking, but you knew that. Other than that, wear it all: without another moment of hesitation.

  • Jaime replied 5 years ago

5-7 is my new outfit goal - I should wear black so well! I also love the first and the dress. Not sure about the sheer top, but otherwise all inspiration for me! I think I would also play in my closet a lot if I were in such a stressful situation - best wishes for you and DH.

  • Joy replied 5 years ago

Thank you, Shevia. 3Style, I dressed in a colorful outfit today and need to think about tomorrow's outfit. It must be upbeat and able to be warm in freezing hospital rooms.
Shevia, you humble me. Tomorrow (Tuesday here) will be important. I need extra courage.

Late to this thread and can’t think of anything original to add to all the spot-on compliments except to say yes, yes, yes! I’ve been trying a bit of all-black myself but not having a closet stocked nearly as well as yours makes it challenging....but fun of course! My fav is 4 with the tan print accessories but the white accented ones are great too. Sending best wishes for DH’s continued recovery.

  • Bijou replied 5 years ago

Well black loves you back! I love the simplicity and elegance of these looks and now I want black shorts because you look amazing in yours!

  • Cardiff girl replied 5 years ago

Sorry to hear that the DH is unwell.l hope all goes ok with the surgery. You wear black SO well,so much for the old adage that women over 40 shouldn’t wear black!I like all the outfits you look very chic in all of them.

  • karen13 replied 5 years ago

You look absolutely amazing. I’m sending strength and hugs Your and DH’s way. I know you must be brightening his room!

I almost never wear black but I am going to study these and see what tricks you are using because the all look so great.

  • Katerina replied 5 years ago

You look lovely in the black outfits Joy, all are excellent. I like the sheer black blouse in no 2, with a cami under it will be perfect too. You have such a fabulous and well composed wardrobe - real inspiration.
I hope your husband will get better soon. Hugs to you!

  • Staysfit replied 5 years ago

Dear Joy, I’m so sorry to hear about your husband! I hope the results of his surgery and recovery turn out excellently. He’s fortunate to have a supportive and stylish wife like you! I love how chic you look in pic 5. You must be brightening his heart and providing great motivation towards recovery when he sees you looking so good during visits. Take good care!
