Ask Angie, K/R: Vince leather jacket

A friend talked me into getting a buttery lambs’ leather dove grey jacket at the Rack. It was pricy even discounted. Now I am having second thoughts. Is it fabulous enough to keep? I love the color and soft leather but ... I would like your opinion.
1-4 the jacket.
5-6: the sleeves
I welcome your thoughts. I want a nice jacket in this color, but is this THE ONE?

Why the second thoughts? I think it looks amazing! The color looks beautiful. I think the fit is good, although maybe the sleeves are long, but I would like that. The style also looks great. It looks nice when Zipped. I wondered if the pocket was pulling a bit but it’s minor. Leather molds to you with wear.

Thank you so much, Staysfit. I just want to be sure that the jacket fits me well as I am so poor at judging fit, especially on myself. I do not mind the length of the sleeves. They can actually be rolled up or the cuff flipped up like shirt sleeves. I will recheck the pocket, but agree that the leather will mold to fit.

I'm wondering if the jacket is a little too big in the shoulders. Would you be able to post a pic of it from the back? (Too-wide shoulders on jackets are my nemesis, so I'm always checking them.)

About whether this is "the one"...how do you feel about the jacket? Does it make you happy? It sounds like maybe you are finding happiness in the color and the feel of the leather...but maybe you are not 100% in love with the entire jacket. If you're not so excited about this jacket that you want to wear it out of the house right now, I vote return. It's a pricey piece, and you want to have joy every time you reach for this jacket.

I love how it looks with the light pants, but am not sure about the fit. Is there any way you can have someone else take the pictures or use a timer? I think it would be easier to say without your arms up. It might be a bit big and wide as Gigi said.

That will looks goods on you. Don't have to doubt about it. Light color like that can be used in many colors to top. Hope this helps! Cheers!

This looks beautiful on you. Whenever I am finalizing a decision about a purchase, I try it on at home and make at least 3 outfits that I feel fabulous in that I couldn’t make better with an alternative piece from my closet. If I can’t, it goes back.

The jacket is lovely, but I think it looks big on you. Leather jackets look best when they hug your torso. This allows them to mold to your shape. The sleeves are too long but a good tailor should be able to fix this.

It's a little hard to tell in photos, but what are your reservations? If you were talked into it, it sounds like something you may not have loved enough on your own. It looks nice, but I also think it looks a bit big on you (IMHO it should fit closer when zipped up).

  • RobinF replied 5 years ago

I love it! I'm not super picky about fit, but to me it looks great.

  • Laurie replied 5 years ago

You had me at "dove grey" - it looks beautiful, but you have to feel great in it.

  • Angie replied 5 years ago

From what I can see, KILLER. Sleeves might need shortening.

    Great haircut too.

  • replied 5 years ago

Echoing Angie. Great jacket and hair.
    Jacket hangs nicely when open.

  • Mirjana replied 5 years ago

Great jacket on you, your color. I am with Angie about sleeves, but no bother me, definitely keep it to my mind, especially if it makes you happy.

It was wonderful to wake up this morning and read so many helpful comments. A light leather jacket like this has been a HEWI for some time.
In theory, I want to add fewer and better pieces, but my penny-pinching ways run deep and I often find it hard to decide if I love a piece enough to make the commitment. Sometimes I feel undeserving. So my reservations are personal quirks and wanting to be sure about this purchase. I had a whole cart full of items, many my friend liked on me, but decided that I would rather have this one jacket than a lot of things. I also had not bought anything for a couple of months, so had the money for the jacket. The color looks great with my EF bone colored pieces and with brights, pastels, and other neutrals.
I will try to get back photos, make several outfits and think about the sleeve length.

Joy I bought a pale grey leather jacket a few years ago and it is a very versatile piece. I really love the colour and fit on you and think that this most definitely could be the one. You more than deserve it - the two questions (1) do you love it? (2) Will you wear it?

If the answer to both of those is yes, then wear it with anything and everything. It looks beautiful on you.

  • JAileen replied 5 years ago

Joy, the color really looks wonderful on you, and with your hair. I hope you keep it.

  • Bonnie replied 5 years ago

The jacket looks perfect and will be a versatile addition to your wardrobe. I have two jackets similar to this one in style (mine are not leather) and wear them a lot. This style seems to work with a lot of different outfits.
Your hair looks great in this shorter style.

  • Katerina replied 5 years ago

I really like this jacket Joy, looks great on you.

  • Joy replied 5 years ago

I do love this jacket and will wear it. This seems an ideal climate for leather jackets. Lots of cool dry sunny days and cool nights. Thank you for giving me the confidence to keep it. Question...should I spray it with something or have it treated to resist stains? If so, what do you recommend ?

  • Vildy replied 5 years ago

Glad you're keeping it.  Light grey is my favorite color for a leather jacket (though I don't own one yet) and I like the fit on you a lot.  I think non-body-con leather jackets look luxe and sexy. :D

  • cindysmith replied 5 years ago

    Joy, I love that jacket!

  • Joy replied 5 years ago

Vildy, if I can look " lux and sexy", I'm in! Thank you. I love the visual image.

  • Joy replied 5 years ago

    Thank you, Cindy.

  • Brooklyn replied 5 years ago

Looks great Joy. This is your colour. You might not find it again.

  • Joy replied 5 years ago

    Brooklyn, you are right.

  • tulle replied 5 years ago

Brooklyn is so right--you look heavenly in these pale stone colors--it knocks me out every time you post a picture like this.  I do hope you will keep the jacket.  I would shorten the sleeves a bit, but that's me...

  • Joy replied 5 years ago

Thank you, Tulle. I do feel wonderful wearing this color. This jacket can replace an older white leather jacket that has had lots of wear. I wondered if I wanted the pale grey, another white, or blush jacket but think the pale grey will be the best color for me.

  • Mainelady replied 5 years ago

Joy, that jacket is fabulous and looks like it was made for you. The color is incredible on you and will be easy to include in your current wardrobe. Is it the price that is bothering you? Ask yourself how you would feel if the jacket were thrifted for $10....would you nab it up and happily escort it home? If your answer is “Yes!” then please, please keep the jacket. You are worthy, you are deserving and you are extra fab and gorgeous!

  • Bijou replied 5 years ago

Joy, I have been fine with my light grey leather jacket and not needed to spray or treat it. I am careful when wearing it, and will get it cleaned from time to time from a dry cleaner that specialises is leather. I say be on team wear and make this a signature piece. You look amazing in it - sometimes we need the nudge of a friend to buy that one amazing piece.

For me it was a Burberry black leather jacket in Harrods (on sale) on a girl's trip to London - and that was a once in a lifetime treat too. My Friend said that I could not go home without that jacket. Three years down the track - it is my most beloved jacket. I remember our amazing holiday and feel wonderful whenever I wear it. Sometimes it is worth having a splurge. I will never need to replace that jacket - it is special and I love it. I feel amazing whenever I wear it.

  • Joy replied 5 years ago

Thank you, Mainelady. Yes it is the price that that makes me pause. I would snap it up at a thrift store happily. Bijou, thank you for sharing your leather jacket story. I can see that this jacket will remind me of times with my wonderful friend.

  • Runcarla replied 5 years ago

What a sophisticated jacket. The style is refined, and the colour is gorgeous. It looks very luxe. fit is good (long sleeves can be dealt with).
Joy, this jacket looks very you. Keep.

  • Suz replied 5 years ago

This is sophisticated, refined, and elegant on you. I love it. If it is also buttery soft, then bonus!

  • rachylou replied 5 years ago

Hey! This is a great jacket on you!

  • pil replied 5 years ago

I love it on you. If you return it do you think you’ll regret not having it down the road?

  • 3style replied 5 years ago

Love the color and style on you but I’m not sold on the fit. I think whoever mentioned that the shoulders might be a touch wide might be on to something. I have broad shoulders and often have the opposite problem. I’d look at a few other jackets, maybe even worth saving up for Burberry or Barbour or something like that.

  • judy replied 5 years ago

I didn't read anyone else's comments...but I wanted to say I gasped ( in a good way) when I saw the first picture.  LOVE the outfit and with your hair!  I think that jacket looks amazing on you, Joy.
