Playing in my Closet with the full print skirt using your suggestions and more

When I posted myself wearing this skirt with a cotton tank and cropped faded denim vest, it got mixed reviews. (ETA : http://youlookfab.com/welookfa.....per-casual) The vintage skirt is too young for me but fun to wear. I played using Unfrumped's suggestion of a more refined top rather than denim. (1-4 are plain tops).
Then I wanted to pattern mix as Day Vies suggested with my "uniform" shorts, only I don't have but one subtle pattern in shorts. The skirt is a stand in for mixing fun.
1-2: skirt with purple silk shell, untucked. 1. Shows it with red jacket.
3. Same but top is tucked and red belt added.
4. Refined top is a black AT buttondown, black belt
5. Pattern mixing begins, here with an AT gingham shirt
6. Same as 5 with added cotton scarf to pick up skirt colors.
7. Close up of mix in 6.
8/9: Mix with polka dotted blouse. 9 adds a black sleeveless jacket
Everything you see is seasons old except the purple top from San and the shoes. I decided to keep them as they turned out to be very comfortable. If I find a better pair, my closet has room for them too. Summer feels like our dominant season. Most of what I'm wearing has been thrifted.
This was playtime but I'd love to hear from you if anything works and your suggestions. Your thoughts are most appreciated. I'm still considering whether or not this will be the last season for the skirt.

We don't like this skirt? Why don't we like it? Hehe. I love it here. I do have a preference for 1-3 & 8-9. The collared shirts aren't working for me; I find them stiff.

It is a beautiful skirt, Joy. I prefer it with a solid top, otherwise it is too busy for my eye but I lean towards less complicated style lately. I like it with the belt the best but if you have a banded top which can be pulled up to be shorter it may work also.

I had that skirt. Loved the look of it but ultimately it was too young for *me* and I usually don't think like that. It is not, however, too young for you. :D

#3 is my favorite. Specialy like with the red belt.

I really like all of these styling a, but especially 2 and 3! Lovely, fun unique skirt!

I like 3 and 4 best, this skirt is smashing with a tucked plain top against the print of the skirt and the belt adds lovely waist definition and helps break up the lines.  Nice remixing!

    I like 1&2.

Love the skirt; don't remember prior posting.  Love 1-3 and 8-9, but 5-6 okay, too.  As you can see, I'm an ALGO lover.

I loved the skirt before and I love it still, and i do NOT think it is "too young" for you. My faves here are 1-3 and also the ones with the collared shirt -- I like that fun pattern mix. Looks great with a belt.

It sounds like a plain top has more fans. I ended up wearing #4 out today (the plain black shirt). The skirt got several compliments from strangers as it often does.
I added a link to my earlier post where it was included with a group of summer skirt looks. This is the way I most often wore it in the past...a simple cotton tee or tank tucked and belted and denim jacket or vest.
Your comments help me to see these outfits through your eyes.
Vildy, how fun that you had the same skirt! If only it were a bit longer!
Sveta, I have one banded top that might work. Thank you for the idea.

I don't think the skirt looks too young. I thinks most of the tops look good but I do prefer the red belt over the black.

What a great skirt, Joy! I missed the first thread, but I love how you wore it there, too. I'm not a fan of the pattern mixing, but I think it looks great with just about all your solid color options.  I vote keep, wear, enjoy, and let the compliments roll in!

Love this skirt on you, Joy! I especially like it with #1 and 2.

  • Day Vies replied 10 years ago

I love the skirt with just the tops and a belt. I'm not a fan of the jacket or the vest with this skirt. I really like #3 and #6.
#3 is fun because I love the red belt and how it shakes up the plum which contrasts nicely with the yellow in the skirt.
#6 is a master's level study in mixing patterns and textures. I love this look. I'm still getting used to print so I won't be able to copy immediately but I have filed this away for inspiration.

Day, three years ago I didn't have any prints except scarves. I'm still really picky about prints...like no ditsy florals although loving them on others.

  • cobaltblue replied 10 years ago

I love it with the collared shirt! I really like all these except the vest.

  • amiable replied 10 years ago

I love it!  But then, I'm a sucker for toile...

Beautiful skirt for a vivacious Joy! #1, #5 and #8 tick all the boxes for me. There's colour-blocking interest, sophisticated retro silhouette and ladylike pattern mix of an unexpected sort. Fab, fab, fab. I'm not quite sold on the sleeves of the purple tee with this skirt---somehow feels more young to me as that is a concern you have raised. And not 100% keen on the proportions of that last vest with this length if skirt. (Haven't seen the earlier thread but denim seems a no-brainer partner)

  • Ginkgo replied 10 years ago

My favorites are with the belts, #s 3, 4 and 5.  I like it with the collared shirt -- is that denim or a fine striped pattern?

  • lyn* replied 10 years ago

I love this skirt - I prefer it belted and with a tucked in top, but I think I have a sweet eye for this - because that's how I usually wear my full print skirts!

  • Lantana replied 10 years ago

Joy, young shmung, you have a trim figure with a dear little cinched in waist, just the figure that this vintage skirt was designed for when it was young. It suits you.
I like it styled every which way and YLF.

  • Eliza replied 10 years ago

I love the black and white checked pattern mix. Very sophisticated look. You wear this skirt so well. Enjoy it.

  • Joy replied 10 years ago

You stylish ladies gave me a huge smile this dreary morning. Ginkgo, that collared shirt is a small black/ white gingham check but it's hard to see in the photo. I've also tried a bit larger turquoise gingham shirt with this skirt but it was too much going on even for me.

I love your look! The colors, the print and how you pulled it together with the nude shoes!
