Maximal Striped Top: 3 Ways

This is my most maximal striped top. I wore it today to the Peach Festival with the skinny dark peach jeans.
A wildcard, it has also sparked a change in direction for my summer wardrobe. But that will depend on what you think.
I am wearing it 3 ways for hot summer, all with a tank or cami.
1/2: with a slim tube skirt
3-6: with volume on the bottom (white Gap wide crops) so volume over volume. The black and white photo (5), included to show the stripes. Aqua blue tank under the top.
7/8: over dark peach skinny jeans for lower contrast.
I don’t think this voluminous top overwhelms me, but correct me if I am wrong. I am not sure the tan wide ankle strap shoes work with this but the festival required lots of walking, so comfortable flats. I welcome your comments and suggestions. Does this type of top work on me at all? Too wild and crazy? The top is Chico’s via a consignment shop.

Oh,l like Joy!especially with the pencil skirt and the wide leg trousers. That top looks very bohemian but chic at the same time.

  • replied 5 years ago

Exactly as Cardiff girl said :)

  • JAileen replied 5 years ago

Joy, I really like 7/8. Not overwhelming at all.

  • Joy replied 5 years ago

Thank you for your replies, Cardiff Girl, Lisa, and JAlieen. I value your opinion. I think I have enjoyed the top for its color and movement and am thinking of how to possibly use it or something like it in cooler weather.

The top is lovely on you, Joy. Both the colour and the style really suit you. It is interesting how the top changes character depending on the bottoms and styling from dressy and elegant when combined with the pencil skirt to casual chic in today’s outfit with the peach jeans. All the outfits are very good and my personal favorite is the first outfit with the pencil skirt.

  • Joy replied 5 years ago

Thank you, Katerina. I do mostly wear the top with slim bottoms. I have a bone white poncho that I like with that pencil skirt when it is cooler that has a similar silhouette in light neutrals or white out.
ETA finds. The skirt and poncho are nearer the same color than the photos show, but the poncho has lots of texture

  • Katerina replied 5 years ago

That’s a great combination. The poncho is fantastic, what a beautiful texture.

I have a poncho I struggle to style, must try with a pencil skirt and maybe a pair of tall boots later in the autumn. My poncho is black and not nearly as beautiful as yours, but it has a knitted texture and a fringe. Maybe a black monochrome outfit would work.

  • Joy replied 5 years ago

Black monochrome with one of your beautiful scarves would be lovely. My poncho came with matching long fingerless gloves/arm warmers. Maybe this year I will be brave enough to wear them with the outfit.

So fun to do peachy for Peach!
I actually kind it best with the wider crops— looks breezier and somehow not too much volume + volume.

  • replied 5 years ago

I love this type of thing. To me, it definitely not too much. The colours are great!

  • Joy replied 5 years ago

Thank you, Smitty and unfrumped. Your comments are very helpful.

  • Becky replied 5 years ago

These colors and the style are fabulous on you, Joy. I prefer this top over slim bottoms, but then I have a bit of a poison eye for volume + volume, so take that for what it's worth.

  • Like the Season replied 5 years ago

What a lovely, floaty, summery top. Looks like perfection to me in all three examples!

  • Aquamarine replied 5 years ago

I love this on you! I don’t think it overwhelms you. All your renditions look good to me.

  • Joy replied 5 years ago

Thank you for your kind comments, Aquamarine, Like the Season and Becky. It helps me to see these outfits as others see them.

  • Jaime replied 5 years ago

Love it with the wide white crops. A stunning top and you wear it well!

  • Joy replied 5 years ago

Thank you, Shevia. I am glad you feel the top is ok with the wide crops. I think it works because the fabric falls close to the body and is somewhat transparent so that one can glimpse the waist of the crops.

  • Sal replied 5 years ago

I think this is a super fun and glamorous top....
It looks stunning on you - and a great piece to find at a thrift shop.

I like it with the white skirt and white crops the best.

  • Brooklyn replied 5 years ago

Looks great on you Joy. Bright and breezy. My favourite is with the wide leg pants.

  • Mainelady replied 5 years ago

Joy, your top is fabulous and does not overwhelm you. It looks wonderful in all 3 outfits. With the tube skirt it looks incredibly chic and elegant. Beautiful!

  • Bijou replied 5 years ago

Such pretty colours and beautiful all the ways you have styled it. I really like the knitted poncho and love the idea of the gloves that match.

  • replied 5 years ago

Its beautiful! Id totally wear that :) I like it best with the skirt but all versions work. Id also pair it with burgundy, mustard, or dark brown bottoms!

  • Staysfit replied 5 years ago

I like it in all versions Joy, but I think you made the right choice for the festival. The peach pants were perfect for the theme, and your shoes were fine. Comfort is key when you are out and about walking at a festival.

  • Joy replied 5 years ago

Thank you all for your comments.  Suntiger, I like your styling ideas.  Thank you.  Staysfit, you are so right about comfort for feet.  There were big crowds and sandal toes would have been stepped on.

Bijou, thank you for the vote of confidence for the ponch/gloves combo.

Shevia, Mainelady, Brooklyn and Sal, thank you for stating your favorite ways with the top.  I have worn it most with narrow white crops that were not shown; maybe this week.  I also want to try it with my orange dress.

  • Column replied 5 years ago

    First two looks are spectacular!

  • Barbara Diane replied 5 years ago

My reaction? A big long lasting smile. Such happy outfits.

  • Stagiaire Fash replied 5 years ago

I love that top, had no idea Chico’s had things that cute.

Your stylings are all great. For cooler weather, I think you could build on the last outfit. Add a close-fitting turtleneck (or mock T, if you’re like me) and some chunky boots, and your set. Even better, have the column of color underneath match one of the more tall- like yellow or orange tones in the top.

  • Angie replied 5 years ago

More of a tie-dye and KILLER.

  • Linda replied 5 years ago

It totally works! I think that it looks best with the pencil skirt and white crops. You look elegant and artsy at the same time!

  • Joy replied 5 years ago

Fashintern, I will try to shop my closet for your suggestions. Angie, I am thrilled! A Killer! It is more of a tie dye than stripe.

  • Sara L. replied 5 years ago

Great top!  I think it doesn't overwhelm you because the fabric is thin and hangs close to your body.  I like all three iterations.
