"Crazy" track pants

After reading Angie's blog this morning I realized that a recent purchase might qualify as a crazy pant, at least for an over-65. I do not have a full length mirror available where I am staying so tried to show top and bottom of an outfit. Today I am wearing them with a dolman black sweater and black ankle boots and will try to get a photo to add.
People look at them and think they are wild, especially with the sporty stripe, but they don't compliment them. So please give me your honest opinion. Keep or donate? Are these too crazy for me?
Shown with Gap tee, EF Bomber jacket (old), and Priva athletic flats.
I like them with ankle boots and my black ankle strap shoes. I could also wear them with low-heeled pumps. Styling suggestions welcomed if you think I can wear these.

I like them, Joy. Do you have a picture that shows you and the full length of the pants?

  • Marilyn replied 9 years ago

    I love them, Joy.  KEEP!!
I really like the way you've styled them here.

  • kkards replied 9 years ago

i like these, i say keep! i like them as styled, and i can also see them with a drapey pullover sweater. and since they are track pants, have you tried with a dressy sweatshirt and/or sneakers?

  • replied 9 years ago

I like them too - and would wear them less dressed up and a little looser. Asymmetric sweater, sweatshirt with zipper trim, sneakers, wedge booties, etc.

  • Day Vies replied 9 years ago

I like them on you and agree you could have gone a little looser. (Was the next size up too loose for your taste?) I love how you've styled them here -- it let's them be the center of the outfit.

I have been thinking about whether I'd like to get a similar pair but at this point I am not keen on adding fun statement pieces to a wardrobe in a state of flux. I will live vicariously through you. Looking forward to more iterations of this outfit.

I don't think they are too crazy. I think a looser but still feminine top and no jacket might be a good way to try them - maybe semi-tucked or faux tucked with a banded top.

These are FAB! Super cute pattern/print and look like they fit you well :)

  • replied 9 years ago

Oh, not too crazy at all, so fab in fact! You must keep them and play with more stylings.

From what I can see they look good. I'd like to see a full length photo too.

I think they are really fun but if you are hesitating, it makes me think you're not completely comfortable with them (or in love with them).

  • Sveta replied 9 years ago

I like them the way you styled them. Not over the top at all.
Is it just the absence of compliments which makes you hesitate? Do you like them yourself?

Try to pair them with a fluid sweater or blouse which can be tucked in ot semi-tucked. For myself I wouldpair them with a simple support act  - solid tops in complimenting colors which do not complete for the attention with the pants.

I love them, Joy; not crazy at all.

  • Thistle replied 9 years ago

    Fab, not crazy. :)

  • Beth Ann replied 9 years ago

Love them, Joy!  I think our "environmental norms" are similar.  People don't often compliment what they don't know.

I think you look perfectly appropriate and fresh, and this outfit is in keeping with your overall style.

I do love wearing these track pants as an alternative to jeans. They are Willow and Clay on clearance at the Rack. I like the sharp contrast of black and true white, but grey doesn't seem to work with them. I wanted to be sure that I don't look ridiculous.
Unfortunately, I can't take a full length photo. These are sized up and are almost too baggy in the rear. The fabric is rather heavy, a cotton/rayon, etc. blend rather than silky. I plan to wear them a lot before it gets too hot.
Lisa, I love your styling ideas. I have been looking for the right upscale sweatshirt but have not found it. Another store has these and a matching swestshirt online but it seems too matchy.
Sveta, I agree that these need simple tops. The waistband is rather high, but I think a semituck can work. I need to go try on fluid blouses.
Day, thank you for the kind words. Track pants with a drawstring waist and soft fabric are very forgiving.
Thank you all for helping me not feel that I look crazy in crazy pants!

    I love them on you!

  • Elizabeth P replied 9 years ago

Not crazy at all Joy, they look great. And fun.

  • Joy replied 9 years ago

Shevia and Elizabeth, thank you for your sweet comments. I think that they are fun too.

  • Windchime replied 9 years ago

They are really cool pants and look wonderful on you. Maybe it's a new look for the people who see them, and that's why they're not complimenting? A year from now, when the sporty luxe trend gets to them, they'll recall with admiration that you "started" the trend! :)

    Definitely keep.

  • catgirl replied 9 years ago

I think they're awesome - I'd like them even looser but that's me! Also am continuing to be inspired by your hair. :)

  • Inge replied 9 years ago

Not crazy at all, Joyce, you look very stylish. I love these trousers on you. They're fun, modern, and I really like the sound of the fabrication too.
Great suggestions from the other ladies. I also like the idea of trying them with a pullover layered over a solid or patterned shirt (leaving the shirt untucked).

  • Joy replied 9 years ago

Windchime, I'm sure that you are right. This look is new to me and to this area. Next year could be a different story.
Una, thank you for the boost. My hair is an inch or more longer than usual.
Inge, I love the idea of a shirt layered under a pullover and will work with that as soon as I can get back to my closet at home. Thank you.

  • unfrumped replied 9 years ago

I think the color and pattern are really good with your hair and coloring and use of other neutrals. I do wish they were a little baggier in front but I think they work on your trim frame. But, I think the ideas of wearing a much slouchier top is on target--the pants are tapered and don't overwhelm you, so you can do more volume on top and give a more relaxed vibe. Rayon or silk or fine linen knit.
I hear you on black & white prints that seem like they ought to go with more colors but don't.

  • star replied 9 years ago

I love them! I have many but to be honest with you I dont wear them as often.

  • Deborah replied 9 years ago

I think these look amazing on you Joy.  I think I have the same or at least a very similar pair which I was going to donate.  Got them out and am having a play.  Thanks for the lovely inspiration.

  • jackiec replied 9 years ago

I think these look great on you, Joy. I'd keep them. I hear you on how other people might comment but not compliment. That gets my goat too, to be honest. I'm sure they are admiring them and assuming you are looking your usual fab self, so don't comment.

  • Zibbets replied 9 years ago

I think you look fabulous. I'd like to see a full length shot, but I'm pretty sure you're pulling them off really well. Depending on where you live, I think people can be intimidated by things they think are edgy. They might have to get used to it and then they'll compliment, or very likely it's what jackiec said, that you just look great all the time and they don't want to sound like a broken record. :)

  • Joy replied 9 years ago

Unfrumped, I think I can position these lower on the hip and create a baggies look. I'll try it!
Star, why don't you wear your track pants very often? Not the right tops or footwear?
Deborah, I would love to see your pair on you.
Jackie and Zibbits, thank you for the kind and wise comments. You reminded me that my friends reacted the same way when I first wore my leather pants a couple of years ago. A few weeks ago one of them showed up in beautiful navy blue leather pants!

  • CocoLion replied 9 years ago

I like them on you!  I'm on team wear them slouchy, lower on your hips.  I could see them looking great with Birkenstocks or some other chunky slide.  And even just an oversized tee, semi-tucked.  For a really simple at home look.

  • fuzzylogic replied 9 years ago

Keep!!!  I love the way you have kept every thing simple to let the tuxedo stripe  have it's moment!!!
