Breaking Out : Trying Cocoon Cardigan on the Cheap

I am rediscovering cardigans, preferring the structure of jackets. This cardigan with its cocoon style and near match for the BR cream jeans that many of us bought last year, jumped into my cart at Target. Is it overwhelming? This is a medium. The fabric is cotton and acrylic, so may pill in time, but it is cosy and machine washable for under $17 this week. There were also a rich burgundy and a mid grey at my store ( on line it is called black)
The tassel necklace is also trying a trend on the cheap. This from the Rack. Please excuse the slippers. I am awaiting a fashion rut..SE Petty booties, this time in "bone". I have them in "putty" and "snake", so a rut but a comfortable one.

I really like it a lot on you.  It does look cozy and it is the perfect way to try out a new trend.

I say it's a keeper. Looks good and I like the tone on tone color you paired it with. BTW love your hair color too

Looks great Joy.  this style of cardigan has me liking them again as well.

    Thumbs up.

Oooh I like the texture of the cardigan, Joy. Looks very cosy and stylish indeed. Love the tonal look, and the tassel necklace is a great touch. And the Pettys are a great bootie, so hurrah for getting them in an extra colour:-)

Makes sense to me. I love the practicality and coziness of cardigans, andIi like the tonal outfit. Works well with the necklace. Had to smile about the Pettys because I also have putty and snakeskin. Personally I find the the putty too pale for winter, so stone probably makes perfect sense!

It looks wonderful Joy. A great way to try out a trend. I love cardigans and find them very practical as I work from home. I have a variety of them. I like the easy on/easy off as temperatures change.

Rachylou and Sterling, thank you. This is feeling quite cozy, like loungewear.
Mtsofthemoon, thank you for the compliment on my hair.
Elizabeth, I am liking this style and would invest in another. The burgundy one is tempting me.
Thank you for the vote of confidence, Angie. If I get another, should I try a smaller size or a petite. It looks longer in the photos than in the mirror.
Thank you, Inge and Scarlet. The new SE booties came. They are light but bookend my hair pretty well. I could probably have used either the snake or putty for most uses.
Glory, I agree that cardigans are cozy. This one is not scratchy and could be worn for lounging.

I like it. And of course I love the tonal look. Cardigans are such are comfy alternative to a jacket. Great for driving around and for travel.

    A beautiful tonal outfit!

  • Windchime replied 8 years ago

It looks cozy and on trend. You always look gorgeous in cream; I think of it as a signature color for you.

I also like the tassel necklace on you, a lot.

  • Joy replied 8 years ago

Brooklyn and Karie, tonal looks are my favorite right now, especially with texture mixing.
Windchime, thank you for the boost of confidence. Cream or similar whites are becoming a year-round look for me.

Lovely! It's great in the tonal combination! I'd love to see it with a crewneck tee and loafers in a light tan color. You look beautiful in that combination, Joy, with your gorgeous hair!

FYI, Joy, I find acrylic/cotton blends the best way to do the fiber: not too scratchy and wears better than acrylic/wool (pill city) or acrylic/ wool/alpaca/cashmere (oh, itch!).

More important, what a good look for you!

  • Joy replied 8 years ago

Mamavalveeta03, i can do that combination from my closet and will try it soon. Thank you for the ideas.
Cerinda, this is my first try at an acrylic /cotton blend and I am pleased with it after avoiding acrylic for years. So far this piece has not shown pilling.

I just started watching a Netflix series - Grace and Frankie. In it Jane Fonda wears a cocoon cardigan much like yours and looks terrific. Yours does too. I like the light neutrals. I think they suit your colouring.

  • Suz replied 8 years ago

Lovely soft look on you, Joy! You look wonderful in these tone on tone ensembles.

  • Joy replied 8 years ago

Kerry, I have not seen that show but suspect that Jane Fonda looks great in anything. I hope to add more light neutrals and less black.
Suz, the tone on tone outfits are my favorites, especially if they play with texture. I need to learn to play with proportion too. Maybe that should be my January self challenge.

  • Beth Ann replied 8 years ago

I love the Cocoon silhouette, and I think the cream is a wonderful choice, as it keeps the look from becoming heavy and dark.  Well done!  As for footwear "ruts," I think it changing up the colors and textures in your footwear, and sticking with a boot that you know works for you, is a sign of style wisdom!

  • Joy replied 8 years ago

Thankyou , Beth Ann. So helpful from one with so much style wisdom.

  • Helena replied 8 years ago

    Think it looks great!

  • Firecracker (Sharan) replied 8 years ago

I agree with Beth Ann--this sweater is a perfect color for you. I think the monochrome outfit is also part of what makes it look elegant on you. Love the tassel necklace, too. And regarding the Pettys, I like to say, "You're not in a rut; you just know what you like." (Plus, what rut? You just tried a cocoon cardigan!)

  • Joy replied 8 years ago

Thank you, Toronto girl and Firecracker. You are right. Trying new-to-me items and styles keeps the ruts at bay.

  • gradfashionista replied 8 years ago

Keep! A lovely silhouette and a textured fabric. It drapes beautifully.

  • CocoLion replied 8 years ago

I love that it matches the jeans so perfectly.  These two items will inject some light into the dark winter months.
