WIW: Wideband boot cut pants + Dressy shoe/clutch complement

I combined ideas of some of Angie's latest posts from my closet and would like your input.
1-3: These are thrifted Banana Repubic trousers that I dug out of the donation bag. They are a beautifully made lined lightweight wool with a really wide waist band and flared bottoms. They had only survived this long because they fit my rear end.
Belt is MK, pumps are MeToo, jacket is from Kat, tee from The Rack, DIY pearls, and clutch is Elliott Lucca or old taupe leather number.
4. Same outfit with Sam Edelman Petty booties in putty.
What do you think, especially of the trousers? Are they hopeless? Is it possible to wear them in a modern stylish way?

I think the wide leg pants work well. They look great with both pairs of pointy footwear. I also think the colour palette blends beautifully. Nice job!

  • texstyle replied 10 years ago

I think the pants look great - keep them!  I also love the neutral palette.

  • Joy replied 10 years ago

Thank you, Diane and Texstyle. I'd not thought of the pointy footwear and suppose it helps modernize the pants.
What other ways will help? Would a moto jacket or some other style of jacket work better than what I'm wearing?

  • Emily replied 10 years ago

The pants look fantastic on, and I think the way you're wearing them looks modern and stylish.

  • Aquamarine replied 10 years ago

Joy, the pants look great to my eye...very fresh. I like them as you have styled them but I am sure a moto would look good too.

  • Angie replied 10 years ago

More thumbs up for the trousers, Joy. A lovely fluid fit. I like the trousers with the pumps best. Have you tried your moto and denim jacket with the trousers?

  • Joy replied 10 years ago

I have not tried my moto or denim jacket with these trousers yet, Angie. I'll do it soon.
E ily and Aquamarine, thank you for your comments

  • Jjsloane replied 10 years ago

Phew you rescued the pants! I like them with the pumps.

  • sarah replied 10 years ago

Very pretty, Joy. How great that you've rediscovered them!

  • bj1111 replied 10 years ago

Yes to angies moto dsuggestion. I thought you had a leather jacket, no?

  • Joy replied 10 years ago

LOL, JJ. Similar pants on the BR site were running over $200 new, as I remember.
Sarah, Angie's post was very timely.
BJ, I do have a leather moto jacket and a leather blazer.

  • pil replied 10 years ago

Very pretty, Joy. Don't you have a neutral python(?) print sweater set? Or would that be too staid? Angie for the save!

  • Makrame replied 10 years ago

This outfit looks great!  The pants look very nice on you, especially with the pumps.

  • Jaime replied 10 years ago

Good save! Keep them, I like them with the pumps!

  • Runcarla replied 10 years ago

Let me add to what the others have already said, by pointing out whAt a great colour (and versatile?) those trousers are. Another vote for Keep!

  • Beth Ann replied 10 years ago

You have such a gift for mixing neutrals in you-nique and beautiful ways.

Love the pants, the shoes, the clutch -- its all beautiful together.

  • Joy replied 10 years ago

Pil, you may be thinking of my leopard-ish sweater set. I'll have to try it. Thank you for the idea.
Makrame and Shevia, thank you for expressing your preference for the pumps. I think my pewter pumps may work even better.
Runcarla, these pants may go from donate bag to wardrobe workhorse. I see shopping for more wide belts to fit the belt loops in my immediate future.

  • Joy replied 10 years ago

Beth Ann, you are a sweetheart.

  • karymk replied 10 years ago

These look great. What's not to like, especially if they fit your rear nicely?

  • Suz replied 10 years ago

These pants may become new workhorses! You have a closet with great depth as well as breadth, Joy. And you look so wonderful in the neutrals.

  • Joy replied 10 years ago

Karymk, any pants that don't give me droopy b-tt are hard to purge.
Suz, the weatherman said today that we are in for a really cold December. Wool trousers will be gold for those times. Time to make a closet switch and come up with winter capsules.

  • CocoLion replied 10 years ago

I like the pants, the outfit and color scheme.  The effect is quite classic if that's your aim.

If you want to go more trendy, I would switch out the jacket/top/necklace for a trendy top and statement necklace.  (Everything else, the pants, belt, clutch and either shoe would work great with this concept.)

This last one has the necklace built in.

The trousers look great on you, I see you got lots of good advice on updating them. They are really worth keeping.

  • Neel replied 10 years ago

The trousers look great with the pumps. But I also think they should probably be worn over a slightly higher heel. The color and fit is fantastic!

  • Joy replied 10 years ago

Oh, thank you, Denise. It looks like a trip to H&M is in order. My houndstooth sweatshirt may work too. Your last link made me think of a cropped sweater as another idea.
Thank you for your comment, tracina. I have gotten lots of great advice!
Neel, do the pants look too long? I wish I could wear a higher heel as they would look so much better but must face the reality that with diabetes, my days of wearing heels much above a flat are over. Doctor's orders. I'm in mourning for cuter footwear and am sometimes a bit rebellious, but need to face facts.

  • Neel replied 10 years ago

I do think they are a wee bit long. You could also hem it for your flats. Do they drag on the floor when you walk? That is one thing that you might want to consider.

  • Joy replied 10 years ago

They don't drag on or even touch the floor with either pair of shoes. They also are not too long if I run up or down stairs wearing them with these shoes. Flats are a different story. I think they would be worth having the hem adjusted if needed but want them to be Angie's Perfect Pant Length. I'll have to pay attention. The pumps that most liked best are a tiny bit higher than the booties.

  • Neel replied 10 years ago

Aaah ... If they don't drag they are perfect!!! They looked long in pics probably due to the stance. Enjoy them!

  • san replied 10 years ago

You are one stylish woman!  You really know how to dress yourself.

  • El Cee replied 10 years ago

I like those trousers. They have a lovely drape to them. The length looks great. The fit seems perfect. The color is a great neutral and would be so versatile. (Beautiful color combo you've chosen here!) All in all -- you look fab. I think they deserved rescuing from the donation pile. Good choice.

  • Joy replied 10 years ago

Neel, San, and El Cee, thank you for your helpful comments and boost to my confidence. Without Angie's and the Fabber's guidance I wouldn't know what to do with these pants.
Sandy! It's so good to see your post. I hope all your news has been good.
