WIW: Taupe with a touch of metal. Fluid or Deluded?

My favorite consignment shop just closed. I picked up a few items on the last day and this outfit features one of them... A taupe and bronze metallic striped shell. Here it is with my taupe linen trousers rolled, gold loafers and taupe linen cardi. Does any of this work on me? My greying hair used to be mostly taupe and I think it looked taupe again wearing this outfit. The shell is a larger size than I usually wear. Is it looking nicely fluid or am I deluded? Is the leg rolling off? Too messy? I welcome all comments and suggestions for improvement.

Very nice, and it all works wonderfully well! Very fluid, NOT deluded :)
    Those gold loafers are fantastic.

It all looks wonderful to me.  Not too big at all. perfect shell.  We are loafer twins, btw :)

Wow, so great! Taupe and bronze has to be a dream, and it's perfectly fluid! Love the loafers, too. Only correction would be the somehow messy  roll-which is no problem, but looks to me very instable. Maybe pants should be a bit narrower on the  leg, for that roll, or no ideea what else is happening...

The shell looks like a perfect fit.   I like the soft neutrals together.

Thank you for your help and comments. Tanya , how exciting to have a beautiful loafer twin ;)
Lyn, you are very observant. The rolls stayed put but I wondered if they are not fitted enough to the leg. Maybe these pants should not be rolled.
Thank you Kari and Rabbit. I was drawn to the stripes and subtle metallic shine.

Love the whole outfit. You look great!

Oh, the metallics are so lovely on you, Joy. This reminds me of seashells at a white sand beach-subtle but interesting tonal variety with some sheen. Perfect for summer.

And sorry to hear about your favorite consignment shop closing-I hate losing a favorite haunt!

This outfit looks great on you. These colors really work for you.

I know what you mean about taupe. I love it with my hair, too. I'm starting to realize that as much as I like my silver hair now, that it's continuing to change color and will be white in time.

Such a lovely, calming, low contrast outfit with metallic highlights! Loving your long, vertically orientated cardi, too!
I think I would leave the pants unrolled to give a classic look. Perhaps you could substitute some light coloured cigarette pants if you want them to sit above the ankle?

  • Joy replied 9 years ago

Debbie, thank you for your encouraging words.
Kari, I wish there were a poetic button. What a lovely description! And, I will greatly miss that consignment shop. It is about the only one I knew that didn't have Tweens/teens as their target customer.
JAileen, my hair is continuing to change. It still has some dark hairs. In between taupe and silver grey it turned to something almost pale blonde.
Fuzzylogic, I am in love with Angie's birthday off white narrow cigarette pants and will keep my eyes out for something like that. Full length is probably best for the pair I'm wearing.

Joy, I love the shell! I think it looks great on you. And I love the sparkly gold throughout the outfit, and the different variations of the same color. The color looks great on you, by the way.

I agree with the others that I'm not sure the pants lend themselves to rolling. If they are too long to wear unrolled, maybe have them hemmed?

I think you look fab! The metallics makes it fresh to me.

  • Janet replied 9 years ago

The fit looks great to me, and you do that tonal look SO well! Great look. :- )

  • Joy replied 9 years ago

Thank you, Gigi. The pants don't need to be rolled. It was a hot day so I thought that they would look cooler that way.
Thank you, Jj and Janet. It was new to me to do metallics, except for shoes and bags, in the height of summer.

I love the textures, the stripes, and the gentle metallics of this outfit. It's lovely.

Great score on the top! It looks great! I agree with all commenters that the soft metallics look so nice on you. I like it all from top to bottom :)

  • Joy replied 9 years ago

Columbine and Jackiec, I love the words gentle and soft that you used to describe the metallics. I will keep them in mind for future wardrobe selections.
    Thank you for your comments.

I think the whole outfit works beautifully, and the colors are great on you. The fit of the top is fluid, yes--looks just right. I agree with others that I would kind of like to see the pants down, or perhaps pegged and rolled to bring them in closer to the leg at the bottom. (Do you know what I mean? Fold back on the sides and then roll up? Not sure I'm describing it well.) Do you have metallic sandals? That would be another option for the outfit--for a more casual look.

Oh, and it's sad your consignment store is closing! Here's hoping that another treasure trove will open in its place (or somewhere nearby)!
