WIW: pleated skirt pattern mix. ETA ? About Boatnecks

Still in the last week of November I was using my fall colors and still doing the November closet edit, I was trying out some closet orphans, so this is a pleated skirt outfit but also a question about whether or not to keep the skirt and orange jacket and striped top. It is all thrifted when I went a little nuts with orange. I would love your thoughts on these outfits and pieces.
ETA: the orange striped top has a boat neckline. They always turn into cowels when I add a jacket. This shirt did that but I tried to straighten it out for the photo, but you can still see it a bit I. #2&3. Does this happen to anyone else? I have purged other boat necks from my closet, but I like the stripes colors in this shirt. What would you do?

I like them all. Can you split the jacket-top pairing and remix the jacket with red, lime or aqua? Put a cranberry or teal or denim jacket over the orange top?

I’d love to see the skirt combo modeled. But what I can see makes me think it would look great.

Thank you, cj, for your ideas. I had not thought of wearing the jacket with those colors. I have a denim jacket that can be worn over the orange top. Do you mean the plain orange or striped top?

I would absolutely keep the skirt & top. The jacket I might let go but I do like the color pairings that cjh suggests.

I really like the idea of the pleated skirt with that eggshell Vince leather jacket. I know, I have the same one! Would also love to see it modeled. I would wear the the orange top over the skirt, hoping it clings without looking lumpy and hangs just below the jacket. Scarf is great with the look too.

Thank you, Opaline and Cins, for your thoughts and ideas. That orange jacket is very close to at least moving to a holding zone for the spring. With a long sleeved silk tee and a tank under it, it felt warm enough on a mild winters day, especially with the wool scarf. Cins, that orange top is too short to fall below the jacket, but a have a similar short sleeved one that will probably work. How exciting that we are jacket twins.

Love the pleated skirt outfit! I would probably pass on the other jacket. But you are a mistress of the pattern mix!

    What Suz said!

ETA: the pleated skirt is perfect for Angie’s recent post outfit formula...

I love the crazy skirt as it seems to go well with today’s “hectic maximalism.” And pleated skirts seem to be popular these days too, though they can be tough to wear.

The shirt seems like it could be a useful base layer.

The jacket is not as great, to my eye. I don’t love the pattern though the color is fun. You could wear it under a huge scarf or under a puffy vest so the pattern is less prominent.

The pleated skirt outfit has great potential, sweet Joy. Would like to see it on.

I vote pass on the jacket. Maybe wear a low contrast belt, or wear tops out over those jeans.

I really like orange so I’m already biased but I like the stripy top and jacket combo. You look all warm and glow-y in it.

The pleated skirt looks great in the picture. The skirt outfit seems to work nicely together - I echo Angie.
Great gold bag and shoes, btw!
As for the orange jacket and striped top - I like the combination, nice mix of patterns. Due to the lenght- perhaps other bottoms with higher rise or untucked? How about with a white skirt instead?

Thank you all for your comments and helpful suggestions. I will try to find a photo where I am wearing the pleated skirt outfit ( I am wearing it in the photos posted but you can't see that. Katerina, I will try white higher rise jeans and also a white skirt with the orange jacket and striped top. Both top and jacket are a bit short on me so a high rise is a good solution. I am finding that high rises want to creep down to sit on my hip bones, so are fussy. The orange print jacket is probably on its way out. The sleeves are too short for my long-for-my-size arms so sleeves must be rolled.
I do not have a hoodie ito wear with that pleated skirt. Wardrobe Hole.
Honestly, maybe 72 is too old to wear hoodies?

More pleated skirt love. The colours here seem to be what will trend in 2019 per Panetone! You might be ahead of us all, Joy.

  • Joy replied 5 years ago

Carla, I love all those warm colors. Cool shades have been about the only color choices for too many seasons. Thank you for this Panetone prediction. They look like they could be crisp or earthy depending on the styling
