WIW: playing with columns of color in the cold

Inspired by Angie's post on creating a column of color, I tried some from my closet recently.

1/2: a column of denim two ways
3. A column of citron ( posted before)
4. A column of chocolate
5/6 a column of grey two ways
7. A column of black
Most of these had to get me through a bitter cold day and footwear was sometimes determined by the necessity walking in snow.
I think all could be improved but I was ok with them. I think the last one needs a longer top but the cardigan was ice and warm.
I welcome your thoughts and suggestions. I'd love to know if any are worth repeating.

I keep coming back to the citron outfit. Such superb styling to pull off an unusual color!

I like the citron one too. I also love the last two with the sweaters. What a great way to stay trim looking while wearing a more bulky sweater. I'll have to remember this.

There is something about a column of colour that creates a real sense of style and elegance IMHO.  I like all of these. My fave would be 1, 2, 3 & 5.  Love the proportions and the overall styling.  Joy what is the vest you are wearing in #2, it's quite stunning.

You look great in all of them - my favourites are the citron jeans (amazing on you!) and #7, the asymetric zip berry sweater is gorgeous.

I like ALL your renditions of Angie's "column of color" idea. I cannot take my eyes off your citron outfit. Beautiful! Your denim column is also quite fab. (I will have to copy.)

These all look good, but the raspberry cabled knit moto is all kinds of fab, and looks great with your hair/skin.

Deborah, the vest in #2 is a sleeveless jacket, tailored and lined in pinstripe. The brand is Lena Gabrielle New York, found at a store called SteinMart a couple of years ago after Angie blogged about sleeveless jackets. I wear it most in summer over sleeveless tops as a third piece.

What great renditions of colour columns! All iterations work so well. I think 3 and 4 are my favourites.

Joy, you look terrific in all of these!  I especially like #4 and #7.  I love pink and brown together, and the berry sweater is gorgeous with your skin and hair.

These pictures demonstrate what a versatile, well-rounded wardrobe you have.  I would never be able to put together columns in five different colors.

I love your column of color - all versions. I've been meaning to try that in denim, you are giving me the inspiration to do so. My hands-down favorite, though, is the citron outfit!

Joy - you look stunning in every outfit!!  You have such a lovely wardrobe and the pieces work so well together.  I love a column of color, quiet but interesting monochromatic pieces that put the focus on your lovely figure and face but are interesting and texturally rich.  You look so refined, elegant, lithe and poised!!

These are great! I love the citron, and truth be told that's not a color that appeals to me personally, but it really looks great on you! The raspberry color is so pretty. Very nice!!!

  • Aubergine replied 10 years ago

I really love the "column of chocolate," although I may partly just be reacting to the name there! The rest look great to me too, especially #6 and #7.

  • Jaime replied 10 years ago

These are all good but #5 really caught my eye!

  • Sarah A replied 10 years ago

You look spectacular in each of these. #3, 5, and 7 in particular caught my attention as perfect mid -winter pick me ups! :) Youve made the berry tones with the grays perfect, really nicely done!

You look great in all of these, Joy! I love the column of colour idea. As Deborah said, it really brings cohesion to an outfit, automatically.

You're getting a lot of wear from the new shiny booties!! So great. I would love a pair like that.

  • Joy replied 10 years ago

Thank you all for looking and commenting. The weather is a challenge right now. Suz, those shiny booties are comfortable all day and keep my feet warm. I'm so glad that I have them although they are pretty out there for my circle.

Joy where is your knit moto from?

  • MsMary replied 10 years ago

There's not one of these I don't love!  You look so chic and youthful, Joy!!

  • carter replied 10 years ago

#1, 3, 4, 6 and 7 are my favorites. You always look so nice, so put together and so stylish. Lovely as always!

  • replied 10 years ago

You do always look so nice. I love the citron one especially.

  • Joy replied 10 years ago

Karymk, the knit moto is Eddie Bauer from a consignment shop. We were visiting DS and I had not brought enough woollies. When I went shopping for more I posted several Buy or Leave sweaters, including this one. It seemed the one most liked.

I like them all! The jacket in #5 is fab!

  • Angie_T replied 10 years ago

In my opinion, these are all columns of awesome.
    I love your style.
    Particularly 1, 3, 4 & 7.

I used to do something like 3 a lot, although often one of the colors that I repeated was black or white. I think doing it with unexpected combos is much fresher. 3 and 7 are my favorites.
