WIW: MOTG skirt outfits and a super casual

1. Angie's post today reminded me that, while I don't have a stretchy striped midi skirt (yet), I do have a stretchy woven denim midi. Here it is today with an Express drapey banded top, old Aerosole casual sandals and Target clutch. The skirt is years old from Marshall's.
2. One of my go-to coolest outfits for heat. It's all nylon mesh lined with nylon mesh. Top is Sweet Pea. The skirt was thrifted and a maxi that I just cut off shorter. My DH hates maxi skirts and I trip on them on stairs. Sandals are Cole Haan.
3. This outfit is an attempt at Angie's full printed shirt outfit. The skirt is consignment or thrifted vintage. It is the shortest skirt I own. Is it too short for an older woman? In fact, does this outfit look too young?
4-5. A new black EF pencil skirt of heavy knit. BR top from last year. I think the white belt that I bought for jeans is too long worn at the waist. MeToo shoes.
6. The super casual outfit. I'm dressed for dog walking.
How can I improve these? What works and what doesn't?

    It all works. Big time.

4/5 is out of this world... so is 2... wait a minute, 3 is fab too... hold on, hold on, did I forget to say 1 and 6 are just another examples of how you can wear and owe any look you go for!

    Off to faint now!

4/5 is FAB! And the rest too

  • Glory replied 10 years ago

Joy all are fantastic on you. Not too short at all, not too young!

  • chewyspaghetti replied 10 years ago

Look at you- all skirted up! That's the way to do it :)

  • Cindy replied 10 years ago

I *LOVE* all of the skirt outfits! The super casual dog-walking outfit is cute, too. Personally, I would wear a more fitted top with the looser bottoms.

  • Debbie replied 10 years ago

I love everything but 2 is my favorite. You look stunning!

  • Wendi1984 replied 10 years ago

I love your outfits! I'm really becoming a skirt fan this year. It's been hard to find the right length for 40-something me. I seem to like right at or just above the knee -- or maxis! Your outfits looks so comfortable, casual but put-together and stylish. Thanks for posting!

    I love 1/2/4 especially!

  • MsMaven replied 10 years ago

You look great in all of these.  My least favorite is #3.  I think it's a great outfit, and I admit that I'm not in love with that style skirt in a print.  It's not too young, but it is youthful.

I love you in a pencil skirt.

  • Suz replied 10 years ago

Joy, you look fantastic in every one!

Are you getting bored with my saying that?

I adore #1. Fluid top, stretchy bottom, what is not to love?

#2 is STUNNING on you! Smart move to cut off the maxi.

#3 is youthful, not too young. It's fun. A great outfit to go to market in.

    #4/5 is classic casual elegance!

    #6 is  fun!

  • Vicki replied 10 years ago

Ditto Suz!  You can do no wrong in any of these outfits and I'll be Mr./Ms. Dog is quite happy to walk with you (#6).  1 and 2 look so cool and perfect for these summer days and 3 reminds me of one I tried in a similar style with print skirt and I think you look spectacular in it.  You are a classic and beautiful MOTG in 4-5.  Way to go, Joy!

  • Eliza replied 10 years ago

Joy- Skirts love you.  Agree that these are all amazing outfits that work beautifully on you. Looks like you have your summer line up done!

Here is me, scrolling through your pictures:
    #1:  WOW!
#2:  omg, WOW, this is even better!
#3:  This is so freakin' cute, I can't stand it!  Can I copy this?
#4-5:  GASP - I am definitely copying this outfit!  (hands-down favorite)
#6:  I'm off to my closet to copy these outfits.

  • Jaime replied 10 years ago

Wow Joy! Your outfits are all excellent - I can't even pick a favorite!

  • unfrumped replied 10 years ago

Wowser! 4-5 is superb but all are great and of course are more casual. I hear you on the belt issue- I have to have different ones for skirt- waist vs. hip belting.
I don't think 3 is too young to wear, but I do see that is more in that direction than your usual. If you wanted to steer back a little , or just have a different vibe option , I wonder if it would work to style the skirt with pieces that are
just a little more refined - juxtapose , instead of going with the denim casual theme all the way.

  • Susie replied 10 years ago

Oh my goodness, Joy, these are terrific outfits! I especially love 4/5; it is simply spectacular on you.

I think I agree with unfrumped that perhaps a different styling of the skirt may make it feel more comfortable for you? The skirt itself is certainly not too youthful for you.

  • pil replied 10 years ago

I'm joining the choir, Joy. These are all wonderful! #3 is not too young on you, but is young at heart. I love the nylon mesh fabric too, but can't seem to find it.

  • Joy replied 10 years ago

Thank all for your helpful comments.
    Ornella, Harmonica, Shevia, I'm blushing
Glory, I'm glad That you think i am able to wear this "young" look.
Khris, Cindy I'm glad the skirts are working out. Cindy, that is volume over volume, isn't it. I'm wearing a tank under the top but needed to feel a bit more covered going out. Maybe it would be better alone.
Debbie, thank you. I always feel cool and comfortable in #2. I almost cut off the little sleeves on this top, but they seemed to add something. Angie's explanation of the diagonal sleeve has helped me wear this with confidence.
Wendi, you will find your sweet spot for skirts. Mine is now just the base of my knee, although it used to be shorter and I accept most skirts as long as they hit the knee someplace. I find maxi skirts hard to wear and don't like how they look on me.
Aviamariah, MsMaven, thank you for commenting. You like the narrow skirts and I agree seeing the photos.
Suz and Vicki, how could I ever get tired of hearing I look good, especially from such beautiful stylish women?! Thank you
Eliza, skirts are such a welcome change from always wearing shorts. Thanks.
La Belle. (Chuckle) you made my day
Unfrumped and Susie, thank you for your suggestions for the print skirt. I will have to think about what I have that is more classic, like button-down shirts.
Pil, I'm finding nylon mesh harder to find than it was a few years ago. Watch out for similar pieces in polyester, which does not feel cool

  • Mona replied 10 years ago

You wear skirts with such beauty and grace! 1/2 are my favourtie from the lot.

  • Sara L. replied 10 years ago

Great outfits!  I love #1, much better than my attempt.  And I definitely don't think #3 is too young for you.

  • replied 10 years ago

It should be illegal to look this good Joy! Seriously. I had the same experience scrolling through your pictures as everyone else did. Each one was better than the one before. I'm especially crushing on 1,2,4 & 5. You can totally wear the full skirt in 3. The extra fullness allows you to go a bit shorter than normal and still have plenty of coverage. This outfit could go super-casual too, by leaving off the belt and wearing plain sandals. The fullness would lend itself to, say sitting on a blanket for a picnic or something you couldn't do in a pencil skirt. I think the print looks arty and painterly. And your hair continues to delight me!

  • qfbrenda replied 10 years ago

Awesome!!  I would wear any and all of those in a heartbeat.
