WIW: More Golden oldies with blogger inspiration

Today's outfit was inspired by a recent Une femme blogger post and oldies in my closet. Everything is at least 5 years old. The jeans, scarf and cardigan are thrift finds. I wore this to get a long-overdue haircut today and this is before.
Are these "baby bootcut" jeans looking too dated? How about the cardigan? The long narrow leopard scarf was a change in shape and easy to wear when warmth isn't needed. I'd appreciate your thoughts and suggestions.

Terrific, Joy. Not a bit dated. You look current and effortlessly stylish!

I love the look, it's casual but elegant.  The scarf really works well with everything, and you look awesome in that merlot sweater.

  • Suz replied 8 years ago

The colour of the sweater is glorious on you and I love it with the scarf as well.

I am not sure about datedness. I will await instruction!

ETA: Or...rather...here is my thought. If I love an item but am a bit worried about datedness, then I make absolutely sure that some element of the outfit is up-to-the-minute. In my case, that's usually footwear but not always. So...when in doubt...add a trend item.

You look chic and classy, and great copy of Une Femme's outfit! The jeans do not look dated to me. I agree with Suz, though, that one new item can make an outfit feel fresh to me. Sometimes it's just as important how the outfit feels as how it looks.

Thank you, Kelly, Xtabay and Suz. Suz, any suggestions for modernizing? I tried my ankle booties with the jeans but the bell bottoms covered most of the boot. These have almond toes and the pumps are more pointy. Maybe I need pointy toe booties with some heel to pull this off.

Sharan, you are wise. I felt good in this outfit. I have an animal print bow blouse that may give an added "modern" 70's vibe to this.

I like the pumps with the delicate scarf--both add ladylike touches, which I think captures the feel of Une Femme's look, too (even though we can't see her footwear).

You look really pretty Joy. I love the color of the cardigan and absolutely adore the scarf. Simple but very chic!

Oh, you look great Joy! Love the burgundy on you and it looks great with the animal print scarf. As Manny said...simple but chic.

I love the colour combo with leopard as well. I am so impressed you have the items to match a blog outfit. I so don't!

Joy -- you look fabulous.  I didn't see anything that looked the least bit dated.  I genuinely liked the proportions.  Everything seemed to work together seamlessly.

I cannot speak about dated. It looks wonderfully elegant yet modern to me. In the last photo you look like a model!

  • Suz replied 8 years ago

Yes, I agree with Sharan -- for me it's more about how it "feels" than how it "looks" and that is mysterious. Some perfectly classic combinations feel wonderful to me and I have no urge to update them in any way. Others feel somehow off or maybe they just bore me. If I'm bored by an outfit, I know I need to do some updating or maybe even style evolving. That is -- it might not be an outfit or item that is "outdated" but it has passed its due date for me, personally. Or I need a break from it!

This seems to have happened to Angie this year with her button front shirts and BF jeans. They're still very much in style. They might not be the trendiest items on the block but they are hardly passé. Button front shirts, at least, are a durable classic! But she's been wearing that "uniform" for a few years now and got tired of it.

I feel similarly -- for me it has been pullovers and jeans, pullovers and jeans. I'm tired of it and want a change.

I think you look great and not dated at all.  All these pieces are fairly classic.

  • Angie replied 8 years ago

Great copy, Joy. Aren't you clever. Not dated. Just super fab all round.

Love the bootcuts on you, and they seem fresh again. I love it as is.  I do think your animal print blouse would be a great addition - it would be a bit dressier look, though.

Thank you all so much for looking and commenting. I feel I need YLF approval when moving away from my usual outfits for a boost of confidence.
Sharan, I liked the ladylike aspects of une femme's outfit and am happy that you see them in my copy.
Angie, thank you for looking. I'm thrilled that this is not outdated.
I hope to repeat this outfit with the animal print buttondown. It could also become a navy/ burgundy/ blush outfit with my blush tee and/or bag.

Love it...I don't see dated at all!

  • Bonnie replied 8 years ago

I love this outfit - you look just as good as the inspiration and not dated at all.

Excellent outfit. I love the burgundy cardigan on you. Not one bit dated to my eye.
