WIW: copying Shannon with wide legged pants and graphic tee

When I saw Shannon's outfit yesterday, I knew that I wanted to try a version with a recent thrifted Fender tee. What do you think? Does this work? I am especially concerned with the proportions. DH thought I looked tall and high waisted, but he's not used to seeing me in high rise pants and 2 inch heels (needed to keep pant hems from dragging.). Over all he did like the outfit though.
Tee: Fender ( thrifted)
Trousers: J Crew light weight wool (thrifted)
Jacket: Wilson's leather
Booties: Impo with pointy toe and very comfortable
Bag: Kate Spade
Should I have used a black or metallic bag? The tee has a neckline that is not too low but wider than I like. I hoped that wearing it under a jacket would help. Is the tee too short? Pants too wide on a 5'3"? This is out of my comfort area and Shannon's fashion is out of my league. I 'd appreciate your thoughts and won't be offended if you decide that this isn't a good look for me.

Great copy cat. You both look fab!

Oh my goodness Joy - I'm so incredibly flattered :)

This looks fantastic. The graphic tee is fabulous and I really like the drape of the trousers - with fab PPL I add! I adore the entire outfit on you.

WOW! You look sensational, Joy!! I love that tee -- and you were made for those trousers. I can't get over this one .Now I want to copy your copy!

  • Joy replied 10 years ago

Shannon, I'm so happy that you approve. I love these trousers because they are fluid but don't give me baggy butt.
Shevia and Kelly, thank you for the confidence boost.

  • Joy replied 10 years ago

Suz, we must have cross posted. I'm thrilled that you think the tee is ok and the trousers fit.

I'm seriously jealous of your thrifted tee.  I have graphic tee on my list and it's proving as hard to find the right one as a good white tee is.
I really like the mix of casual tee with the dramatic flare trousers and pointy toes!

Mo, I agree that finding the right graphic tee is a real challenge. Except for my Bob Dylan tee from Target's men's department, all my favorite tees are accidental finds from thrift stores, and usually knits at thrift stores don't get a look from me because they are mostly well worn and pilled. I have 4 graphic tees total and have been looking for years.

You look so freaking cool. Love it! I think a metallic bag would have been great.

  • Mo replied 10 years ago

So, how would you feel if I was a t shirt lemming copycat?  I found one (but it's a Large).  I know fluid fit is in, but that may just be pushing it.

  • Aida replied 10 years ago

Love it, Joy! I agree with the metallic bag, that'd look even better. Proportions look good to me, definitely on the shorter torso end but that's not a bad thing at all. The pants look great to me, definitely not too wide; I'm the same height and wear far wider pants than these. GREAT tee!

  • Kiwichik replied 10 years ago

I think the proportions look great - what a cool T. I think your instincts were right about a different handbag.

  • Joy replied 10 years ago

Anna, when I repeat this outfit, it will be with a metallic bag.
Mo, my tee is a large! I just looked. Go for it! It is nice and soft, not stiff and scratchy.
Aida and Kiwichik, thank you for addressing the proportions. These pants are certainly not the new crop but from the last time around for wide legs. I wondered if they look too dated to wear with a more traditional blazer. Here the moto jacket and tee probably help.

Your tee is awesome! I totally heart your style, always.

  • leopardluxe replied 10 years ago

Love, love love this whole outfit! It is incredibly flattering on you and the proportions are just so spot-on.

...And I am terribly jealous of your thrifted fender t-shirt. I want one :-)

    Awesome copycat :)

Joy, you look too cool for words! I LOVE this outfit on you so much I can't stand it!
The proportions of the wide leg pants make you look tall as can be, the tee is such a current, fun, and unexpected touch, and the white jacket looks gorgeous on you. I love the red bag with this outfit. Black or metallic would be fine, but I think the pop of red is perfect.
You look FABULOUS from head to toe!

LOVE!  You have the best graphic tees, I was surprised to see you only have 4.  I'm always scouting for some with no success.

  • kkards replied 10 years ago

love everything about this. that tee is divine, the moto is so modern, and the wide leg trousers look great!

  • unfrumped replied 10 years ago

You nailed it! If you can wear those shoes, or even a bit lower, the pointy toes are a great modernizing look. (says one who has trouble finding same that are comfy). The tee is awesome.

  • Faith replied 10 years ago

I love it! I especially like how the graphic tee softens the contrast between jacket and pants just a little bit.

Joy, this works so well! Love that tee and you wear those trousers beautifully. A fabulous copy, and of course, you've made it your own.
