  I agree. The overall effect with the ankle strap is minimalist in a way I personally love. (Are those the Eileen Fisher shoes? So comfy, too.)

  I'm hopeless at pants lengths but those look good as is or you could shorten them just a bit to give more space above the ankle strap.

  Love them in 1. Probably because the shoe shows ankle. With them shortened, I think the ankle strap shoes will be good too. Very sophisticated!

  I'm not good with pants lengths, but I can say that I do prefer the ankle strap shoes. I like how they bridge the gap between your ankle and the pant hem. As Greyscale noted, I would just be sure that you shorten the pants enough that you can clearly see the ankle strap.

  I agree to shorten pants to show the ankle strap and also top tucked for trendy look.

  Are you mourning, Joy...all black is always elegant, festive,  big impact, edgy and stylish, though!:-) I think the culotte are gorgeously styled  tucked or not, but rather with the ankle strap,

  They look fabulous on you. I particularly love them paired with the ankle strap shoes. I think the length looks good (and plenty intentional) as is.

  Joy -- You look absolutely fabulous.  I am really liking wide legged pants/culottes on Forum Members.  I have yet to take the plunge though.  The reason is I am length challenged so I can't comment on if the length is good.  To my every inexperienced eye, the length looks fine, but I will of course defer to others that are more knowledgeable. 

  I prefer the ankle strap with the pants. 

  My mourning outfit looked so much less intentional.  It looked like I had a rough night and threw on whatever was clean.  Not a particularly good look.  You do it so much better.

  YES. The culottes work as pants, and either footwear option is fab.

  Thank you each for your help. Following your preferences, I wore this with the ankle strap shoes. Greyscale, yes these are the Eileen Fisher shoes and are incredibly comfy. The wide pants/culottes are also EF. I need the waist taken in on these which may shorten them just enough.
  Sterling, I've also been struggling with this new silhouette and have bought and returned two other culottes and had pretty much decided to wait until spring when these appeared on The Rack clearance rack. They feel very well made with deep pockets that will easily hold my larger sized iPhone without it showing. A big bonus.

  I love your all black outfit.  The ankle strap shoes were a good choice, but I liked your other pair too.  The cutouts make them interesting.  I wore black yesterday too :(

  You look beautiful in black. I also prefer the ankle strap shoes and wouldn't shorten the pants more than 1/2-1 inch.

  Ah, more in black yesterday. Today I couldn't face more black so am in black lite (grey). How did Queen Victoria do it?!
  Thank you for your comments. Elle, 1/2 inch sounds right, especially for winter. JAileen, most of my black is also more dressy and funeral style.
