WIW 2Jan. ETA And 3Jan.: 30X30 Challenge

Thank you, Sterling, for starting this challenge. I have decided to build the 30X30 capsule as I go and to include bottoms, tops, indoor toppers, and dresses. I am not planning to include footwear, coats underlayers and underwear, and accessories but will try to repeat accessories as much as possible.
Yesterday's outfit is in Sterling's post, shown by using finds. Today I managed a photo. My outfit was almost too warm as it was sunny and in the low 50'sF. The vest was warm enough outside over the wool turtleneck and a silk long-sleeved layer underneath. I am wearing black wool socks with white polkadots to bookend the scarf indoors.
Scroll down for January 3 (3rd day)

I like the vest esp, Joy! When did you get it?

  • Joy replied 6 years ago

Thank you, Rachylou. I got the best from Nordstroms NAS about 3 years ago, I think. It was one of Angie's picks and very well made. It even has decent sized pockets and the lower sides have zippers.

So nicely pulled together! I like how the soft hints of pink in the top and the earrings work with your hair.

I have to smile at your mention of 50 as warm, because that’s the temp that has everyone here gasping and shivering. The difference, of course, is the warm underlayers you mention. I have a good little collection of camis and long underwear, top and bottom, in silk, cotton, and some cuddle duds. I don’t need to pull it out here, but you bet your sweet bippy I’m hanging onto all of it for the return to four seasons. I’ll probably add some tech pieces then as well.

The vest looks like a fun and versatile piece, Joy. I like how it goes together with the scarf.

  • unfrumped replied 6 years ago

What a great cozy outfit, and the vest looks super on you. These pieces look to be versatile for a capsule.

  • Joy replied 6 years ago

Thank you for your comments, fashintern, Dianna, and unfrumped. Fashintern, hang onto those warm underlayers. I always take some when traveling. They can be used for cold days and can serve as pj's. The silk take up no space and are light weight.
Dianna and unfrumped, the vest is a favorite that seems to make an outfit special without being fussy. It works well with scarves.

What a great vest and outfit! Regardless of the challenge, you look terrific!

  • Joy replied 6 years ago

Shevia, how sweet of you! You have made me feel so good about this challenge and this outfit.

  • Debbie replied 6 years ago

Joy you always look so put together and elegant! Love this outfit!

  • Joy replied 6 years ago

Thank you, Debbie. You comment means a lot coming from such an elegant Fabber.

  • replied 6 years ago

Cozy.  That is the word I was looking for to describe this outfit.  You look elegant, but still comfortable and cozy.  I love the vest.  It fits you sublimely.  But my favorite part of the outfit was the scarf.

  • Katerina replied 6 years ago

Joy, your outfit is truly fabulous and you look very pretty! The vest is great and I love the combination with the polka dot scarf.

It is a wonderful example of a casual and very stylish outfit.

  • Angie replied 6 years ago

I love this palette with your hair, Joy. Dramatic and soothing. You are off to a brilliant start.

  • Joy replied 6 years ago

Sterling, if I add scarves to the 30X30 numbers, this one will definitely be there. It is a perfect weight and the crinkled texture makes it stay put better than most silk scarves.
Katerina, I love the casual and stylish description. That's what I aim for most of the time.
Angie, thank you for commenting while on your break. I hope that you are having lots of snuggles with your guys. Thank you for the encouragement.

That vest is gorgeous on you! I like the pattern mixing with the vest and the scarf. And I LOVE when patterned socks are a deliberate part of an outfit! I always intend to do this and then don't manage to follow through. You are inspiring me!

  • Joy replied 6 years ago

Thank you, Sarah. I usually do not wear shoes in the house, so it is often the socks that show.

  • Toban replied 6 years ago

Lovely and cosy. I really like how the vest brings it all together! I'm looking forward to seeing how you mix the vest in with other items in your 30x30.

  • Joy replied 6 years ago

Thank you, Toban. It will also be an interesting excercise for me, but the vest is a great layering piece for cold weather when put over sweaters. That will probably be the way it will usually be styled.

I am adding today's outfit to this post and more pieces to my 30. Today's outfit was inspired by Fabber Bella's outfit for this challenge. Thank you, Bella! I did not have a bright red winter cardigan, so used a bright red puffer vest. Bella's beautiful blouse was replaced by my white long-sleeved rash guard top. Bottoms are thrifted medium blue denim thrifted AG jeans with skinny ankles. I don't have a real find for them so the one I used for now is similar. Those three pieces are being added to my 30X30 capsule.
Instead of tall brown boots, I used booties for shopping planned today. I don't have Bella's gorgeous jewellery so used red glass earrings and a long gold double chain necklace with some red stones and pearls in it. Of course I added a Burbury-esque scarf, used a brown Hobo bag in a similar color to the booties, and my olive coat. I welcome your comments and suggestions.

  • Bonnie replied 6 years ago

You look nicely put together as always. It was interesting to read that you were warm enough outdoors - my arms get cold - that LLBean tee must work well. I should check them out.

  • Joy replied 6 years ago

Bonnie, the rash guard is pretty warm, but I wore my silk long sleeved underwear under it and did add a coat for outside. The puffer vest is often warm enough not to need a coat.

  • SarahD8 replied 6 years ago

I love this! My first reaction was Cute, cute, cute! I hope that does not sound diminishing, I think you nailed it.

  • Windchime replied 6 years ago

Joy, that black and grey vest is awesome! And the red vest is wonderfully cheerful in winter.

  • Joy replied 6 years ago

Sarah, I like "cute" if you are not thinking juvenile. Thank you, Windchime, vests work well for my casual retired life style. As you noticed, they can add color or texture. There is a third vest that will probably be included in the 30, the warmest of all.

  • bella replied 6 years ago

I am super honored that I inspired you Joy! You are amazingly stylish and a role model for me on this forum. So much love to you and you look fab as usual.

  • Katerina replied 6 years ago

Joy, you look incredibly chic in the red vest outfit. I truly love it. And again - casual and very stylish. You are so good at this.

The jeans look absolutely amazing - perfection.

  • Dianna replied 6 years ago

I loved this as much as I loved Bella's outfit, Joy.  You look fantastic in red.

  • Joy replied 6 years ago

Bella, thank you for the kind words. Your outfits always inspire me.
Katerina, I am thrilled that you feel I can do casual and stylish! That is what I want to do, so that I don't look too dressed up, although I don't mind that.
Dianna, thank you for being so kind. This site has helped me find the right shade of red (warm. Tomato red feels like the best shade)

  • Angie replied 6 years ago

LOVE the second outfit even more. Killer. (And Sam and I snuggle big time).

  • Joy replied 6 years ago

Thank you, Angie. (Give Sam some extra snuggles from me.)

  • Suz replied 6 years ago

How fun that Bella inspired your second outfit! Super fab vests you have there, Joy!!

  • Angie replied 6 years ago

    *extra snuggles for Sam*

  • Angie replied 6 years ago

Sam says thank you, Auntie Joy.

  • Joy replied 6 years ago

Tell Sam he'd better guard Cox Castle well and take you for lots of walks. Auntie says.
