Trying the Black, White and Blue Capsule

Continuing my self-imposed challenge for June, today I shopped my closet for items in Angie's 77-year-old client's black, white and blue capsule. I came close to this yesterday with the Eileen Fisher blue tee, but it is cooler today and I decided to try a black silk shirt, my white skinny Diana jeans and a Target denim jacket. The shoes are the same as Monday but the bag is different, still in the same color category.
The silk shirt is very old but has stayed around because it is so classic. My challenge is to wear the shirt more casually and to modernize it. I tried to do this by pairing it with denim and by doing a semi tuck to change the shape of the bottom and rolling the sleeves to make it more like the one that Angie's client has. The belt is Fossil and a tan color that mixes well with both the bag and the shoes. I'm wondering what you think? Is it worth keeping this shirt around? Does it still look too outdated?
I welcome your comments and suggestions for styling.

Look great! Fun to see how you've put the capsule into action. I'm definitely inspired because I have most of these pieces too.

I like this VERY much Joy - the outfit has a great vibe to it. I don't think the shirt looks outdated at all and works especially well as a layering piece. ADORE the tan sandals and handbag in this ensemble - very fresh.

Thank you, a Gardenchick. Please show us your version.
Shannon, I started out with the EF assymetrical black top that resembles yours, but it was too cool and rainy for bare arms so I changed tops and didn't get a photo. I want to steal your cardigan!

Joy, you look like me with grey hair, so of course I love this look!
Gosh, I don't know that much about all the trends (other forum members are better at this than I am), but to me, that shirt still looks trendy and cool.
Love the navy, black, and white and all that good stuff.

I love this look Joy - and may try to copy it! Those shoes, the belt and the bag really pull it together for me.

If you decide to get rid of the shirt, PLEASE send it to me ... I love it, and your outfit ... perfection, and inspiration for my ink antics of late :)

    Excellent! Keep the shirt!

Joy, this is one of my favourites on you, EVER! There is something about this strong, crisp yet soft palette that I absolutely adore, and boy, does it ever love you! The touches of tan work brilliantly to make it unique. Absolutely keep that gorgeous shirt. It works perfectly worn like this with a semi-tuck. Wow. Fainting here!

More love from me!  Not dated at all, another stunning look.  I would not change a thing.

And you look AMAZING in those white jeans.....they are so great.

  • tulle replied 8 years ago

    Chic, as always.

Wow, I'm happy for the love this shirt is getting. There are many things about it, like a neckline that doesn't fall open if I bend over, that make me hang onto it.
Suz, I'm basking in the glow of your words.
Texstyle and Suz, I would probably not have put the tan accessories with this if it were not in Angie's capsule for her client. I like how they soften the look.

This is lovely,Joy - simple and elegant.  The shirt doesn't look at all dated to me. I would keep and enjoy.

Lovely capsule! I don't think the shirt looks dated at all.

One of my favourite ways to phase out worn but luxury items is to start wearing them casually and just accepting the damage, before they have to leave for good. This is probably the old French woman in me.
That silk blouse looks so good with the jeans and denim jacket. Very current.

Keep the shirt-and the capsule is working brilliantly for you! OMG, one of my faves of yours, ever! So ladylike, simple, chic and elegant a delish to my eyes! Love the taupe shoes, belt and bag to the white and blue color scheme! WOW, again!:-)

Thank you for helping me realize that this shirt still has life in it.
Ceit! I've noticed you commenting on the forum and wanted to say that I've missed you. It's good to have you back.
Olivegreen, this shirt was one that I wore with a suit when teaching elementary school. A suit! I haven't seen an elementary teacher in a suit for many years. I know what you mean about wearing luxury items for everyday. My dad would mow the lawn in his old suit pants and dress shoes, sometimes a white shirt.
Kkards, I need to add more older shoes to my custom finds because ROG keeps giving me knee high boots with outfits. The side view was to show the heel height.
Lyn67, I love your descriptors for the outfit...words I aspire to.

Wowza, Joy! So chic and yet perfectly casual at the same time. Love it with the denim jacket, too.
