Trouser outfit

After reading Angie's post on wearing trousers, I put together this outfit with a couple of near orphans. The windowpane trousers are a transitional weather item, as is the white cotton EF sweater. I got compliments on the outfit and hope to repeat it when the weather cooperates. I'd love your suggestions and styling suggestions for these pieces as well as knowing what may be working and what is not.

This is one of my favorite outfits on you, wouldn't change a thing. I like the different textures and the pop of red against all the white. Plus those are the best flats ever.

I think everything works together, Joy. Red bag and shoes make the outfit here.

    Gorgeous!

Columbine: Thank you. These are the best flats ever.
Sveta!: Thank you so much for commenting! Missing fabulous you! I wish I had red shoes.
Amiable: Thank you. I hope that you get some great spring days back in the Heartland.

Love this outfit and the red bag is a really happy pop of colour with the neutrals. I agree that red shoes would be fun, but your flat ankle straps are gorgeous.

This outfit is great! Gorgeous bag and flats!

    Lovely! I like everything.

I really like how you've rolled the trousers here, Joy, looks fresh with those fab flats. The red bag is a fab touch.
Lovely with the scarf too. (Oh, you could also do a red scarf or a scarf that has red in it to echo the bag, or perhaps a red necklace if you're not in the mood for a scarf.)

It's a winner, Joy.  I'm not surprised that you received compliments.  Love the touch of red, and those fabulous shoes.

I love it.  When you say transitional outfit, what weather are we talking about?  I ask because this seems like something that could become a mainstay in my wardrobe.  It looks lightweight and breezy.  Am I wrong?  Or do I misunderstand you?

oh love how the red bag pop against the neutrals! fab outfit

    Super fab!
I have these ankle strap flats and they are my outfit- makers with ankle pants. For some reason I like them much better than loafers and such that I otherwise love with longer pants.
Also they work with my slightly longer skirts. I think of them as my magic shoes. So I love how you're wearing yours!

I love those windowpane check pants. I'm always a bit miffed when I discover checks are printed and not woven, but I have to admit the plain white makes a nice cuff here. Nice shoes/bag combo.

My suggestion is wear this often! It's cute, and it looks great on you!

You look beautiful in this - it really has a nice light feel, perfect for spring. I love the addition of the red bag.

  • Suz replied 7 years ago

Lovely outfit, Joy, that seems to herald spring with its light neutrals and pop of red.

    Nice outfit!

Joy, this looks really nice. I wouldn't change anything. Has it warmed up already? We had six inches of snow yesterday. I needed a warm coat and boots.

  • Angie replied 7 years ago

NICE look. The red bag is yummy.

  • Bonnie replied 7 years ago

You look so good in lighter colors. The cute black shoes, scarf, and red bag are the perfect accessories.

Thank you all so much for your glowing comments.
Sterling, to answer your question, I feel like our weather is transitional because highs are 60-70sF while nights are chilly. It isn't hot yet but not cold either. It has also been dry. I think of this as a transitional outfit because the trousers are a heavy cotton, too hot for hot summer but not particularly warm either. Same with the long sleeved cotton sweater. In the evening I added a black moto jacket. The shoes are closed toe and heel, but open sides. Not for cold weather but not sandals either. At times I wear them with sheer nude stockings or knee highs for a bit more warmth.
Unfrumped, your Paul Green shoes are much like these. Mine are getting well worn and I should think of replacing by fall. I have problems finding ankle straps that fit skinny ankles or rubbing on the ankle bone. These get equal time with my EF black wider ankle strap shoes.

This is perfect for a February warm patch. Like others, I especially like the shoes.
