Should I wear this?

The nubby poncho was a gift and I need to figure out some ways to wear it. Does this white out version work? Are light tights/stockings too much? Pearls? Earrings? I need your thoughts and ideas.

I meant to put this in Urgent but can't seem to change it now. Does anyone know how to change the folder?

Is it a little warm toned for you? Having said that I think your styling here is very clever and flattering:). The poncho bookends with the shoes and the white dress with your hair. A contrasting long pendant could look good:)

It would also look great over black jeans and top:).

Joy - you look divinely beautiful!  So elegant and cozy.  Wonderful outfit!! Love the poncho and I could not have thought of the beads but it just looks fabulous together.  Enjoy!!

I think it works but the nubby texture reads more casual to me. It's a fun juxtaposition though and executed very well. It looks elegant. If it were me, I would wear that poncho with jeans and boots.

    A very elegant color palette!

I love the necklace with the poncho! I wonder how the poncho/dress outfit would be with tights, perhaps in a darker color?

Besides black jeans, you could wear the poncho with your winter white jeans and cords.

Looks beautiful with the necklace. I like the way you have styled it here. It would also go well with a forest green dress or skirt if you have such a rare exotic species in your closet.

Thinking what Kelly was saying, casual compared to the rest of the outfit, especially the dress.

I like it on you, and over the dress, but I"d leave off the necklace and swap out the boots for something else.....not sure what off the top of my head, but probably something with a higher shaft .

I think it's very elegant. Prefer it without the necklace, but think a single pendant could be good. I too would be curious to see a high contrast version with black or sheer black tights and black shoes/boots.

I love the texture & asymmetry of it Joy. How would it work with grey or brown?

  • Kaelyn replied 8 years ago

I agree with Kelly as well, and second that it's a fun juxtaposition. I actually really like it. I think the necklace is okay, but I also think the poncho can speak for itself very well. I like the earrings with it. The whole outfit is nice and tonal, which isn't what I usually wear (I need contrast) but I LOVE it on others.

Hi Joy - I think the poncho is too casual for the dress. I would wear it with white jeans and white sneakers if you wanted to go the white-out route.

  • Sal replied 8 years ago

I tend to see it as a more casual piece- a lovely one. I can see it with blue, grey, white jeans brilliantlly!

  • rachylou replied 8 years ago

I like it with the white esp.

  • unfrumped replied 8 years ago

I think the color works great on you--especially since there are different tones in the yarns. So I think you can really do something with it that looks good.

I agree with Kiwigal--go with denim-y colors (including lighter washes), blues, whites but more casual. Try white-out with more robust fabrics and chunkier items.

I actually quite like it as you are wearing it here. However, I do agree that the light hose are somewhat distracting. I'd go with a nude-for-you hose instead.

Being into neutrals, creams and oatmeal colors, I LOVE it, Joy, and I like your pretty matching iPhone, too!  This is a beautiful gift and you wear it well.

I love the collective eye and wisdom of Fabbers. So many good ideas to try. Thank you!
I will definitely try the poncho with jeans. When I got it I was wearing a black sweater dress. After immediately trying it on, a lint roller was needed for all the shedding that poncho did on black. Maybe I'll put it in the dryer on no heat. For those of you who suggested white jeans, grey or blue denim, I will definitely try those. I also still have the blush jeans.
Brooklyn, I would love to have a forest green dress or skirt. Years ago I had a forest green 2 piece dress and it was a favorite.
To wear the poncho today, I ended up taking off one strand of pearls and liked it better for that occasion, but I do have some other necklaces I could try.

  • Angie replied 8 years ago

I love it with the pearls. YAY.

  • Joy replied 8 years ago

Angie, I wore those pearls for you. I need a refresher on your pearl necklace shortening technique.

  • anna replied 8 years ago

    Hi

I don't think you should wear it as it destroys the lovely line of your figure. It broadens the shoulders too much. I cant help feeling that just the dress alone or dress with a scarf (which has a greater variety of positions) would be a better option. I have a feeling you have a fab figure. However if you are set on wearing it, I totally admire the colour blending you have chosen - it shows style and awareness. maybe white shoes to avoid the "bookending effect of an oatmeal colour at either end. Hope you find this constructive

  • Joy replied 8 years ago

Anna, you are very kind. I'd not thought about the broadening of my already broad shoulders. My figure is a curve-less rectangle, but I am short (5'3") and easily overwhelmed.

  • Jaime replied 8 years ago

    I love it! Truly fab!

  • Peri replied 8 years ago

I love it! I think all the different shades and textures of white make this look so artistic and elegant. Really beautiful on you!

  • Colette replied 8 years ago

I like your poncho and the way you styled it is lovely. Your pearls are beautiful. Someone already suggested a bit higher shaft bootie and opaque tights and I think that would be a fun tweak.

  • deb replied 8 years ago

    OMG, wear it proudly!

  • Style Fan replied 8 years ago

I love the poncho.  Gorgeous.  I would wear it with faded jeans but I never wear dresses.

Yes, why not??? You certainly should! Love the texture of that poncho, and makes for so much more subtle interest on  your whites out fab outfit!!!! Wow!
