Scarf Challenge

Bijou invited those interested to join her in a 5-day scarf challenge. Here are my results. I wanted to play with my spring scarves to see what I had and find new ways to wear them.
1/2: it was a cold day. The scarf is a floral for spring, but a big wool square, worn with a red pullover and dark olive jeans.
3/4: chose to wear tonal olive. The scarf is a small cotton square, folded with corners inside, knotted in the middle and ends tied in back...a favorite way to wear a scarf so it will not be in the way
5-11: a pastel outfit with lilac blazer. 5-7 uses a heavy silk long rectangle with a watercolor design. Looped loosely to show the scarf.
8-10: long narrow silk floral scarf, tied in an overhand knot and allowed to hang.
11: striped infinity scarf, wrapped once.
12/13: Prana thrifted hoody in peach worn with black ponte pants and small silk floral scarf in a different floral pattern, just rolled opposite corners inside and tied in a square knot in front. Do these patterns clash?
14-16: more pattern mixing with plaid sweatshirt over checked shirt, Japanese cotton fabric of sheep as scarf, black jeans. The sheep fabric was folded into a rectangle and tied in a knot in front, ends tucked inside the knot.
17-19: a polyester long rectangle of black, cream and grey rectangles on a Mistook (consignment) tweed jacket, EF ponte black slim pants. Scarf is in a contrived messy knot and drape.
I learned a lot about making scarves work and enjoyed wearing all these although none had much wear before. It was good to help them find outfits.
Your thoughts and suggestions are much appreciated. Do you have any favorites? Any that bother you?

They are all honestly great scarves, but I think the best two are with the lilac blazer.  Can't decide which is better among those.   Love those white cropped pants with that outfit, and the sunnies make them look so cool.

My favorites are 1,6 and 17. You wear so many different colors so well!

  • Joy replied 6 years ago

Thank you, Carol and Isabel. Carol, the cropped wide jeans are from Gap last year. I love the change from fitted legs. Isobel, those are probably my favorites too..

Joy, they are all very good, you are great at styling outfits with scarves. All have an interesting twist.

My absolute favourite is #5-7, the whole outfit is so elegant and the scarf is gorgeous. I like the outfit with the floral scarf in #8-10 very much too.

#17 - 19 is also very good - an interesting way to wear the boucle jacket.

Thank you for sharing these great styles - real inspiration!

You have a lovely collection of stars my favorites is a pictures 14 through 17 I like the pattern play in 14 and 17 early like the soft mono chromatic colors

I am wowed by your pattern mixing. My favourite combination is the ombré scarf with lilac jacket, closely followed by the floral scarf with lilac jacket. Love the red (first scarf) on you too.

  • Joy replied 6 years ago

Thank you all for your thoughts and comments.
Katerina, 17-19 with the boucle jacket was a stretch for me, so I am glad you think it works. If there had been more time, I may have used my black scarf with white polka dots or silver metallic scarf because the jacket has some silver metallic threads.

Joy, you are creative with your scarves, and have a lovely selection. Fab looping and pattern mixing.

The fit on the lavender jacket on the shoulders is a little off. Neither sharp nor soft. I vote pass on.

  • Joy replied 6 years ago

Angie, you are right. I will pass on the lavender jacket. It has never been a piece that I reach for. I am terrible about knowing how things should fit. Please keep telling me when fit is off.

You can count on it, sweet Ruth

    Many thanks, Angie.

My favourite is #5-7. Those colours (including the blazer) are gorgeous on you.

  • Joy replied 6 years ago

Thank you, Cat. It sounds like I need to be on the lookout for mid-tone lavender.

  • Sal replied 6 years ago

These are all lovely Joy with great variety.

My favourite is the first one - what a cosy look!!

The lavender is lovely on you but maybe just a touch wide as Angie said.

  • Joy replied 6 years ago

Thank you, Sal. The scarf in the first outfit is becoming a favorite. It has several shades of red, which can pull an outfit together.

I love 5-7, beautiful colors. I didn't notice the fit on the jacket until Angie pointed it out. It was interesting to see the change in the effect of the outfit with the next scarf you tried on.

After learning from CocoLion that Amazon sells an amazing variety of silk and silk blend scarves, I bought a few in favorite scarf colors. Your post here is inspirational in that I want to work with these new scarves. Time to go back and practice different ways to wear them.

  • Joy replied 6 years ago

Thank you, Ms Maven. Time spent playing with ways to tie scarves is time well spent. It is good to have a couple of ways that are so automatic that you do not need a mirror. Your favorites will depend on the shape and size of most of your scarves. When they become easy and quick to wear, you will reach for them more often.

  • Jaime replied 6 years ago

Beautiful collection and I like how you tied them as necklaces.

  • Joy replied 6 years ago

Those scarf as necklaces come in handy when holding a baby with grabby hands who tries to put everything in her mouth.

You look amazing, really well put together outfits. Initially I really liked the lilac outfit- but now that Angie mentioned it I do see that the shoulders are a little wide. Funny, I was so taken with the colour I didn’t see it.
However, fave now is the red checkered sweater with the little black and white scarf. Very cute! And the red shoes are marvelous.

  • Mainelady replied 6 years ago

Joy, from what you have posted, you are up to the scarf challenge. You have lovely scarves, tied in different ways. I especially like your pattern mixing. My fave is #17.

  • Bijou replied 6 years ago

You look amazing in all of these. I really like how you are wearing the scarf in #3, with the knot in the front, a style that I have not tried before. I will definitely have to give that style a try.

Thank you for being part of the Scarf Challenge, it was fun to know that I had some other fabbers doing it too!

  • Joy replied 6 years ago

Thank you, Bijou, for this challenge. If you try the knot in front, do not make the knot tight or loosen it after the scarf is on to fluff it up a little.
This type of scarf in cotton, like a bandana, is great in summer to soak and wring out well before putting on. It will help keep you cool on a hot day, especially if you are outside hiking or gardening or prone to nose bleeds. It will work for hours.
Mainelady and Jussie , thank you for your support.
