Sal’s Challenge #6: the Dark bottoms

I have been using some dark bottoms…black silk Citron of Santa Monica clam diggers subs in for EF black Ponte pants that are now too warm, topped consignment pants that are black cotton with tiny white dots, and a black EF tube skirt.
The first outfit is the Citron ps to with a woven silk tee, cobalt with tiny black dots, a silk bead necklace, black and grey Bagalinni bag, and blue/grey Born Mary Janes. (#1-3).
Outfit 2 (#5/6 shows pants and under layer of an old thrifted Sweet Pea mesh top). (#7-10) shows the outer layer of silk dragon jacket worn open and closed. (#4 is a close up of medallion print with dragons).
The third outfit is the black Citron silk clamdidders worn another way, with an animal print woven silk tee skirt and a long black linen cardi and old DV ankle strap shoes., gold jewelry (11-13).
The next outfit uses the EF black tube skirt and an EF black silk tank with black sequins at the neckline. The topper is an old EF bone white gillet. Silver jewelry and AGL sneakers and a German leather bag finish the outfit.
#(19-22 i features the third wearing of the EF black tube skirt. #22 shows the top under layer of an aqua EF tank, aqua large bag and sparkly loafers with cobalt, red, black and brown. ( #19-21) the silk Citron of Santa Monica jacket, a floral on a black background. #19 also shows the little turquoise silk bag from consignment last year.. is the tank too long? Too clingy? I never took the jacket off. I welcome your thoughts and suggestions.
Are these outfits too dark?

    WOW! Looking so good!

You are going like a Boeing, Joy :)

#16 and #17 are KILLER. Loving the jewellery in #16. You wear shades of white beautifully.

    I love #7 too!

  • Joy replied 3 years ago

Thank you, Angie. I thought you would like the silver cross with the pearl. That was Sunday’s outfit.

  • rachylou replied 3 years ago

Fierce!! The dark is amazing on you!

  • Murph11 replied 3 years ago

    Lovely dragon jacket #9 (closed)!

  • Joy replied 3 years ago

Thank you Rachylou and Murph11. The jacket shows that I am working on wearing the good stuff like silk.

There's are all great outfits! I can't quite see what the difference is between #11-13 & #16-17, but I like them both :)

The only outfit I'm not as sure about though is the last one - from your posture it seems like you aren't too keen on that tank top yourself. Or am I reading into it too much? Either way, it seems like you have lots of other fab tops to have to still hold onto one that you might be unsure of.

Where you live will provide the answer on whether the monochromatics are too dark.

  • Bonnie replied 3 years ago

I really like all of these outfits and I don't think they are too dark for summer. I like a bit of black in summer.

  • catherine replied 3 years ago

Joy, many thanks for posting these inspiring outfits. I really like your shoe choices.

  • ophelia replied 3 years ago

Wow you look fantastic! All the outfits look really good on you. *Nothing* is too clingy or too dark! Well done!

  • slim cat replied 3 years ago

Lots of great outfits and fab accessories ( love your jewelry )!
The white gillett is amazing piece - special look all together with silver necklaces.
I like the last outfit as well - it's more daring in colors and mixed prints
    ( jacket is fab ).
You look great in all outfits - my fav are #7-10, 14-16, and the last one
    #19-21.

These are right up my alley for summer dressing. Can't go wrong with black, period! I'm surprised by how much I love the black ankle strap shoes in all of these--the dark footwear in general. All are fab but I love the long line the long cardigan makes and the white mandarin jacket looks so fresh too. You are killing it, Joy!

  • Mirjana replied 3 years ago

You are divine Joy, so may beautiful outfits, so creative, I am really impressed . Love them all but especially #9, interesting jacket, and #16 and #17.

  • Runcarla replied 3 years ago

The black and navy outfit slays.

    *runs off with colour-blocked loafers…

  • Jaime replied 3 years ago

These are especially excellent outfits! I like the ballerina off duty feel of #5 and love the jacket and entire outfit in #17.  White is great on you as ever!

I see that I am way behind on this thread.  Sorry, grandchildren came unexpectedly so their parents could prepare for visitors.
Zaeobi, thank you for your astute observations.  Some of those outfits got posted twice and some have been removed.  You are correct.  I am no longer happy with that tank in the last outfit, and will look for a replacement because I like the color with that silk jacket.
cat2, that is wise.  I have been wearing some black although the temperatures have reached 100F on a couple days this week.  This is not a tropical area so black feels ok.

Bonnie, thank you.  I like black or other dark colors worn with white or brights in summer.  Black straw is popular.
Catherine, thank you.  Comfortable shoes are very important to me.  My summer footwear must be stable and walkable, cool yet covering feet, easy off and on for hardwood floors.  I also look for shoes that are light weight.  I am happy that you got some inspiration.
ophelia, when I chose the pieces for the challenge one comment was that things looked dark, so I have been trying to lighten them up most days.
Time to feed the dog.  I will be back.

Slim cat, thank you for picking some favorites.  Since wearing masks a bit less, I have been wearing more jewelry, especially summer stuff.
Thank you, Kellygirl, I’m happy that you like the darks and I often get inspired by your wonderful outfits.  They look casual but not too much so and practical  too.
Mirjana, your outfits always look polished and inspiring.  I learn from your use of color.
Runcarla, thank you.  I am happy with navy and black outfits all year round and have cobbled together a small group of pieces that help pull those darks together, among them those loafers.  I find that they are a way of adding unexpected sparkle and shine to a rather dark outfit.
shevia, thank you.  You look fabulous in both black and white.

  • Tanya replied 3 years ago

What an excellent set of outfits!  I especially like #15/16, the colors, shapes and jewelry are stunning together.

  • Brooklyn replied 3 years ago

Love it all! The only one I found a little dark was the one with the long dark cardigan. I absolutely adore the combination of red and mint green (or is it aqua?) in the last outfits. And the cream vest, cream bag and black dress combination looks sensational on you.

  • Joy replied 3 years ago

Thank you, Tanya and Brooklyn.  Brooklyn I think that top with the red is a light aqua but it is very close to mint green.  I need to reevaluate the mint green in my closet, and may be able to wear a mint green tee with the red top.

  • Helena replied 3 years ago

You are SO fab Joy!! I love the dark outfits on you, and the contrast with your light hair looks amazing.

  • Joy replied 3 years ago

Thank you, Helena.  I am glad you like the dark outfits.  Your outfits are amazing and an inspiration.

  • ChristelJ replied 3 years ago

You look so great and summery in these clamdiggers. Love all your outfits but faves are 7, 16 and 17.

  • Joy replied 3 years ago

    Thank you for commenting, ChristelJ.

  • Zaeobi replied 3 years ago

No worries, good luck with the search for a new mint/ aqua top - indeed it's a lovely colour combination on you :)

  • Joy replied 3 years ago

Thank you, Zaeobi.  The search has started.

  • Sal replied 3 years ago

Really good outfits. I loved the first one and the one With the cream wrap vest.

I like dark outfits in summer - and they look wonderful with your hair.

I think the tank is fine - I probably prefer it layered but on a hot day I would wear it solo too.

  • Joy replied 3 years ago

Thank you, Sal, for suggesting this challenge.  I will probably look for the same tank in a size larger and keep the old one as an under layer as it is long enough.. I think my mint tee is also too tight across the abdominal.
