Oldies X4

For the Oldies challenge I am trying to pull older pieces that made the cut when moving. Today’s outfit uses 4, probably a big mistake. I feel now that I should have paired each with more modern pieces. All are at least 6 years old.
1. 1-2 show an old grey: black snake print Sweet-Pea-esque knit top. I like it because it is perfect and has been worn for Thanksgiving. The fabric is quite washable; the 3/4 sleeves can be pushed up even more and stay up when cooking or washing dishes; and I can layer under it with a black silk underwear or even a sweater and layer over it with a cardigan or jacket. The ruffles on the front add volume to my bust line and look great in motion. The neckline can be buttoned high as in #1 or worn open to be s slash neckline that is not wide.
2. The pants in this outfit are also oldies... a heavy black Ponte jean style from Chico’s. They wash and dry in the machine and have pockets. The length is good for flats. Spills wash out. I can play on the floor with the kids. They are not baggy.
3. The silver ballet flats are also oldies, the newest of 4 pair of the exact same shoe from Dr. Scholl’s. So easy to wear and comfortable. I have liked how the round toe and buckle visually shorten my over-sized feet. They are padded with great support and have a grippy slip-proof sole.
4. Oldie #4 is shown in 4-5, my old cotton black moto jacket. Great for transitional weather or as an indoor topper in cold weather. It is lined, so is too warm for high summer. The length seems to be ok with pants and skirts. I had this jacket for months before I was brave enough to wear it. Now I think nothing of it.
I welcome your feedback and styling ideas for any you think I should keep a little longer. Also, replacement and ways to modernize ideas. They each have a place in my present wardrobe, but I could let any and all go if that is best.

I tried looking at these photos to see if I could pick out that the pieces were older and I really couldn’t. I miss my Sweet Pea (and similar) tops. They were so flattering and versatile.

  • The Cat replied 6 years ago

You look terrific and current. Keep them all!

Thank you Jenn and The Cat. I miss my Sweet Pea tops but have a couple Karen Kane tops that are very similar, except that they are a knit polyester instead of nylon, so warmer. You will probably see these tops during the challenge.

Joy, I LOVE the top. It is beyond perfect. It’s beautiful and it suits you beautifully. The pants look very current to me and so do the shoes. Gorgeous outfit on you.

I like the moto jacket, very classic and current too and it fits you very well. IMHO, the outfit with the jacket is darker and feels somehow a bit “heavier” than your usual outfits. If I might suggest a little change, perhaps to wear the jacket with a lighter outfit or a lighter/bright scarf. But all the oldies are really fabulous and if they were mine, I would not consider letting them go.

Sweet Pea...haven't thought about that brand in a while....

Joy, i like all these pieces, and i'd hold on to them...l really like that moto jacket, and l'd love to see it with white or light jeans...

Katerina, thank you for starting this challenge. You are very wise. I will try the jacket with some lighter pieces.
Kkards, thank you. I really like the idea of the jacket with white jeans. Maybe I will do that with a black and white striped tee.

I love this outfit and I would definitely keep it. It's very flattering and sounds easy to care for - a big plus for me.

  • Joy replied 6 years ago

Thank you, Bonnie. It is easy and comfortable for busy days. I am glad it still looks ok.

  • Jaime replied 6 years ago

I don't see a single thing that doesn't look current. All worth keeping!

  • Joy replied 6 years ago

Thank you, Shevia. I like all these pieces and am glad they still look current. The top and jeans are beginning to show a bit of wear

  • Joyce B replied 6 years ago

All those pieces look great on you.

Everything looks great to me! I personally prefer the top open for a more relaxed look.

You look totally modern to me! (Thoroughly Modern Joy?) Keep it all!

Looks good! Doesn’t seem dated to me. Nice :)

You look very nice, love the metallic shoes.l concur with Katerina about lightening the colour palette to see how that looks.

  • Angie replied 6 years ago

HAH. Looks perfectly current with the tailored fit and ruffles. I like the top styled both ways, Joy. Ballet flats are having their fashion moment, so good job.

I like your outfit and wouldn’t know any items were old if you hadn’t said so. You look like the cool grandma!

  • Joy replied 6 years ago

Thank you, JAileen and Angie. I was worried that putting all these oldies together would look very outdated.

The moto jacket is a great piece! It is strange thing how things that feel so odd at first just fit in. I hadn't thought of looking at Schol shoes, but I will do now. Good that the trousers are so robust, and that they go in the washer.

I like every piece of the outfit. I’ve got a dress with a top that’s similar - more closed or a shallow v neck. I especially like the black with the print and metallics.

  • Joy replied 6 years ago

Yes, Jane, there are so many things heard of on YLF that at first I was almost afraid to wear...fishnet stockings, bright metallics, moto jacket, booties, skinnies...but after the first few wears it was no longer a problem.
Delurked, that sounds like a great dress. The print is great with black, greys, metallics, and colors too. I like snake pattern footwear for the same reason.
