My Dove Grey capsule

Angie's blog post about grey prompted me to post this: My dove grey capsule, mostly for transitional weather or basics any time. Some of these pieces are getting old and will need to be evaluated. I did not include bone white except the pencil skirt. I also did not include dark grays and some silver metallics. I appreciate all comments and suggestions. I want to add a pair of low heeled silver metallic pumps, although I have not found any that work for over a year.

Gorgeous! I'm very envious of your beautiful capsule. Since I went grey I've been buying lots of grey and silver. I thought maybe I had gone overboard, but now I see that I haven't gone far enough.

Wow you have a great collection!!

  • Windchime replied 8 years ago

What JAileen said! Clearly, I don't have nearly enough grey and silver yet. :)
You have an awesome dove grey capsule. I love the variety of shoes and accessories in the capsule.

Gorgeous collection, especially like the shoes and the jewelry. I thought that I had too many grey items, but you have me beat :)

Wow! This capsule is gorgeous. I especially love the footwear and accessories. What a fantastic collection you have here… very inspiring.

Beautiful! Great capsule. You wear these dove grays so well--even the jewelry is impressive. And the bags, and the shoes. I thought I had too much gray, but this assortment is inspiring.

Fabulous...so calming and fashionable at the same time!

Love it! Dove grey is so versatile. I love how all of these could work with each other or with other items your wardrobe.

Did you shop it specifically or did it emerge organically?

A wonderful capsule of Grey's. Love your dragonfly necklace!

Wow!  Beautiful.  Grey seems to coordinate with all colors and provide that middle step in a high contrast outfit to make it softer.  I think every person has a gray (or is it grey) that looks best on them.  Mine is Charcoal - Dove grey looks horrible on me but looks great on you.   I have a nice sized capsule wardrobe of Charcoal.  Come to think of it - I wear something grey everyday - a scarf, shoes, sweater....
Ack ---how do you spell gray or is it grey...... I think for Americans it's grey?  British is gray?....why can't we just spell it greay!

    Hi Joy --

My comment is that you look awesome in this shade so I'm glad to see how you don't stint when it comes to collecting it! This capsule looks very functional and has a nice range from casual to dressier.

I'm like Sarah and really look better in charcoal; dove and paler shades are ok as an accent.

So please keep wearing this end of the spectrum for yourself and those of us who need to live vicariously!

  • Joy replied 8 years ago

Sarah, I have always spelled it grey but I think that may be more British. Either way, people know what you mean.
I did not realize that I had so much light grey until putting this capsule together. Dee, it grew organically.
I do have a large collection here, but I want this to be an important light neutral. It works across seasons and blends with everything., especially light and bright colors. I wanted dressy to casual, footwear especially. There are 2 scarves that should be here but have no custom find yet.
If you look good in a neutral, you should collect it. You won't be sorry.
Looking at these items, I think that every piece has a texture, even most of the tees are silk with some sheen and/or a slight pattern in the knit or weave. One tank has matte grey sequins.

Vic, thank you. You reminded me that, BGH (Before Grey Hair), I wore lots of charcoal grey. It seemed to make my brown with red highlights hair look richer and brown eyes with dark grey rimmed iris look deeper. Charcoal grey is still important as a neutral in F/W...softer than black.

You look wonderful in gray and it is such a versatile color that I can see why your gray capsule is so important.

    Such a cohesive collection, impressive.

    Super capsule!
I love the sweaters and the metallics, too.

  • Peri replied 8 years ago

Wow, I'm just impressed by the work that went into this post! Great capsule too.

  • Jaime replied 8 years ago

I want to reach through my screen and steal it!

Wow! This is SUCH a lovely capsule. You've clearly worked on it for some time, and it's amazing. A very beautiful set that looks wonderful on you.  Particular pieces that stand out to me are the BCBG jacket at the top (I want it!), and the Eddie Bauer parka - which I have (in black) and love. The dragonfly necklace is also pretty awesome. Thank you for sharing!

It is gorgeous, Joy.  So incredibly elegant.

Wow, so many beautiful pieces.  Great collection.

Beautiful!  I could ramble around this capsule!  Thanks for posting.  With your hair, dove /charcoal are wonderful go-to neutrals.

  • Joy replied 8 years ago

Thank you all for your kind comments. This is a big capsule but I could probably not get dressed without it, so I'd not hesitate to make replacements. This neutral also plays well with other neutrals, brightening black and making white look extra crisp.
