Matchy faded denim, summer style

Inspired by Angie's blog, I am trying denim on denim, both faded. This is a first time pairing. Should it be the last?
Are these pieces ok together color wise? Proportion-wise?
Vest: Hinge
Jeans: Aeropostale
Tank: Target
Belt: Target
Bracelets: 10000 Villages and street fair
Flats: Crocs

ETA: Please be honest. Am I too old to wear double denim? Is this a junior look? Should I be wearing higher rise jeans? Please keep me from looking foolish.

VERY fashionable. You are ready for the streets of Amsterdam you super cute and fab lady.

You might like to try a soft semi tucked top instead of a tight tank.

Summery chic! You look fantastic in this, Joy!

Ooh! Excellent! The bracelets are an extra fab touch!

I just came back to ask, as I'm ready to head out to run errands, if I should change to my white denim vest or even the long black sleeveless jacket.  Thank you, Angie.  I'd love to be hitting the streets of Amsterdam!  I'll change to a soft semi-tucked top instead.

    I like!

    You look great, Joy!

Fun combo! I love how faded denims look together; they seem to make a more interesting pairing than darker shades (and the mix of washes seems to be less important). Though these two look like they match quite nicely. I think a metallic belt would also work nicely with this outfit. Actually, for a low contrast version, a soft white top with metallic belt and shoes could be fun.

Super cute!  I love the bracelets as a finishing touch!

Aida, I like your idea of using white and metallic accessorizes with the same denim pieces. I can do that from my closet. My faded Jean jacket is interesting with these jeans but is a paler shade of blue, almost white.
Kerlyn, thank you for commenting on the bracelets, my go-to jewelry for hot weather. They would have been even better if I'd thought to wear espadrilles, a bit of boho.

I think it looks great Joy! On my monitor the jeans look almost pinstripe - which is neat too.

  • Joy replied 8 years ago

Thank you, Donna. These jeans were thrifted but have a wonderful naturally faded and broken in feel, although I've no idea what they were like new. The fabric does look almost pin striped, even more so on the back of the legs here it is a little darker.

    Ooh, aren't you stylish!

You couldn't look foolish if you tried...You look adorable...I love the denim on denim on you...You are indeed ready for an adventure...Now we have to come up with something worthy of adventure clothes...smile..

  • Joy replied 8 years ago

Thank you, Crutcher, after reading some of the comments on Angie's blog post I wonder if I should ban denim from my wardrobe, but that would be tough as jeans fit better than other pants on a flat rear.
An adventure. My adventure today was a trip to Whole Foods. DH needs an adventure too. Ideas?

  • crutcher replied 8 years ago

Whole Foods would be an adventure and a treat for me...We don't have a WF here yet...supposed to get one in the fall but from the looks of construction, it will be more like next winter/spring...I would love to go often to shop and not catch a shopping when I am neared to Detroit...

You are too fab! You look fantastic and I love that you take "risks" (because I hear the fashion police at Whole Foods can be tough :-))

  • Joy replied 8 years ago

Today Whole Foods was donating 5% of their sales to our local public TV channel. I stocked up on favorite local and natural products and almost bought a dress!
People watching is fun with lots of upscale casual on all ages. So my denim outfit was a bit risky. :) No one else was wearing anything like it.

Joy, you are so fashionably appropriate in this outfit! I second Aida, and suggest a low contrast top and lighter accessories for alternative styling.

  • Jules replied 8 years ago

Can't wait to see a low contrast version. You look amazing and totally appropriate - just way more stylish than the average woman of any age!

  • Joy replied 8 years ago

Thank you Runcarla and Jules.  I may just have to do a light version tomorrow as I'm excited to try it.

I like the denim combo! I was pondering your question about the low-rise jeans, and my gut response was that you look great in them, so why not? But there was something about the outfit that didn't quite have your usual elegance, to my eye, and Angie put her finger on it--a more fluid top would be just the ticket.
I really enjoy seeing what you do with Angie's ensembles and other outfit ideas!

  • Joy replied 8 years ago

Sharan, I really need to get more fluid tops. This is SYC July ( except for NAS, but i don't count it as those things are for much cooler weather) so I'm trying to squeeze more wear out of what I have. I didn't get a photo but did change into a silky black cowel neck top. Those ideas for improvement are exactly what I need. Thank you for your help.
