K/R: which size BR ivory jeans?

The BR ivory jeans and sweater finally all arrived and I'm not sure which size to keep, so need your eye.
Photos 1-3 show the smaller size at full length. 4 is the same size tucked to shorten.
Photos 5-7 show views of the larger size; 8-9 that size shortened.
Neither pair is tight or uncomfortable. For those who have these, do they "grow" on wearing? At first I liked the smaller size. Now I'm leaning toward the larger ones. Would the smaller size be best with a longer sweater?
What do you think of the sweater?

I like the fit of the smaller size on you. I think the length of the sweater is fine if you plan to wear a belt. I guess I've gotten used to seeing exposed belt loops "filled" and the jeans would look great with a longer sweater, too. I have them, but haven't worn them out of the house yet, so I can't say how much they stretch with wearing.

  • Catnip replied 10 years ago

I don't own these, so cannot comment on whether they grow, or shrink.  So far as I can see in the photos, I think #1 looks better.

Your post is very helpful to me, since I've been trying to figure out how to take pictures of my back.

  • Gigi replied 10 years ago

I like the smaller size. I think it is form fitting without being tight looking. The larger size looks too baggy to me. And I like the shortened version.

I have these jeans, but I haven't worn them a lot yet. But I haven't noticed them "growing." I don't think they seem to shrink a lot in the laundry. IMO, the way they feel when you try them on is pretty much what you're going to get.

  • Glory replied 10 years ago

I prefer the smaller size - very flattering! I find the bigger ones look a wee bit baggy as well.

  • replied 10 years ago

Smaller size.  I like the sweater.  Always love seeing your posts!

  • Joy replied 10 years ago

Jewell, thank you for your comments and bringing up a belt. Yes I will wear these with a belt unless it will not show and create a lump. I would wear one with this sweater.

  • celia replied 10 years ago

I also like the smaller size of the jeans. The sweater seems to go well with them.

  • Joy replied 10 years ago

    Oops, hit submit too soon.
It looks like the smaller size is the better choice. Catnip, getting a back shot is not easy is it? It usually takes several attempts for me.
Gigi, your experience with the jeans is just what I needed to hear.
Glory, I've been boyfriending skinny jeans so much lately that I've lost a sense of "baggy". Thank you for your comment!
Alicat and Celia, thank you for addressing the sweater too. I'm thinking of ordering another in a different color on sale. Maybe the very cold temperatures right now are influencing that thought.

  • Angie replied 10 years ago

I am the odd one out. I prefer the larger size. To my eye, that fit is extra chic and elegant, which I know is important to you, Joy. Do they feel too big?

  • Joy replied 10 years ago

Angie, they don't feel too big, especially as I've been wearing my much sized up size 12 colored skinny jeans from H&M the last few days.
Maybe I need to try the larger size with the oversized Cap chunky knit sweaters from last year. Both sizes are comfortable in the waist and will stay up without a belt unless they stretch.

  • catgirl replied 10 years ago

These fit me very oddly, but based on how they felt on me I'd go smaller - they are still not tight and I think they will grow. You look great in this color!

  • Angie replied 10 years ago

By all means do more top matching with the larger size Joy, before you make your decision.

  • Inge replied 10 years ago

I haven't looked at the other replies, but I vote the larger size, Joyce. Love the elegant, chic fit of those. The sweater is lovely. And boy, you always look so stunning in creams!

  • karymk replied 10 years ago

Smaller Joy! They will give as you wear them. The others are just too saggy.

  • Emily replied 10 years ago

I like the smaller size best - they look sleek and trim.  The ivory colour is lovely on you!

  • carambola replied 10 years ago

Oh, you look fantastic in all ivory! Both pairs are great, but offer a
different look. The way the smaller size fits you is my ideal - skinny,
but not tight. To my eye it looks "cleaner" and slightly dressier. The
larger size looks slouchy chic and more casual to me. Can you wear them around the house for a few hours to see if/how much they grow? I have a pair of older BR jeans that start with the fit of the first pair and end up growing to look almost like the bigger size. Maybe you'll end up with both fits in one :)

  • Suz replied 10 years ago

I like both sizes, Joy! Mine fit more like the first pair and I do find they have "grown" on me. Not to a terrible amount - -just the way I like it. I wonder if they had been looser if they would do that, however.

You look fantastic in an all ivory ensemble! Love the sweater on you!

  • replied 10 years ago

I like the larger ones! I think the fit at the crotch is better.

  • Meli replied 10 years ago

Smaller IMO because they look sleeker (IF you roll/hem them). If you want the baggy scrunchy rough look then #2

  • Mary Beth (formerly LBD) replied 10 years ago

I like the smaller size.  The crotch looks a little too baggy in the larger size, to my eye.

The all-ivory palette is breathtaking :)

  • Claudia replied 10 years ago

I like the look of the larger size better on you, Joy.

  • rae replied 10 years ago

I like both, but definitely shorten.

  • Laura replied 10 years ago

Just had to pipe in to say how wonderful you look in an all-cream outfit! How about a leopard print belt?

  • texstyle replied 10 years ago

I also prefer the larger size (that's what I opted for in these, thanks so much Angie for bringing them to my attention). I think slightly tighter can look maybe more "in" sometimes - and I was tempted too - but for me "feel" is the #1 priority so I say, "Base your opinion on how they FEEL on you."

  • Joy replied 10 years ago

Thank you all so much for your input.
Una, if I find a size down, I will try it on, especially if they grow. I like the fits of both the ones I have pictured though. Neither really are skinny on me, and that's with post holiday eating!
Angie, more styling before deciding is an excellent idea. I'm even considering keeping both.
Inge, thank you for chiming in. I can't pass up on elegant, especially with jeans. ;)
Karymk, Emily and Carambola, I appreciate your input. I need to wear them around the house, it seems. Today cooking and dog grooming are on the schedule, so maybe tomorrow.
Suz, your experience with the jeans is valuable! The 99% cotton had me wondering if there would be any give. I wash in cold water and hang to dry. Did you have any shrinkage?
Ceit and La Belle, the crotch look is important to me, especially with children's eye level, and they say anything!
Meli, (my pad keeps wanting to change your name to Melissa!) thank you for your thoughts. The different looks are something important to consider.
Claudia, I appreciate your thoughts. You agree with Angie.

  • Isabel replied 10 years ago

Without reading which size was which, I definitely like the ones in 1-3. Which ended up being the smaller size. Fab, fab. fab !!!

  • Angie replied 10 years ago

Keep us posted Darling Joy who rocks my style world.

  • Suz replied 10 years ago

I haven't washed mine yet, Joy. Believe it or not (should I confess it?) I have worn them five times and they aren't yet dirty! But only inside -- I wasn't outdoors and didn't cook in them, which explains things. They give in a really nice way, IMO. I wouldn't call it "bagging out." They just acquire a bit of ease. Again, if mine fit looser to begin with they probably wouldn't do this so much. Mine fit like true skinnies. I almost wish I had a larger size as well because i like the more fluid fit I've seen here on others.

  • Joy replied 10 years ago

So much food for thought here! I'm thinking of my 2 pair of white jeans...Kut Diana Skinnies and Kut Catherine Boyfriends. The difference in fit is similar to these, yet I wear both pretty much equally. The Diana skinny pair are a bit more fitted than the smallest size BR cream pair. Since the ivory color is such a good light neutral for me and is hard to find in jeans, I'm seriously thinking of keeping both. A belt may fix any crotch issues. More experimenting is probably needed.
    Angie, xo
Suz, thank you for coming back to comment. I've only washed my coated blush jeans once, but have put them in the freezer and used Fabreeze spray. I wonder how others deal with cleaning coated jeans. Washing did seem to remove some of the finish, although evenly, but I'm reluctant to wash them again.

  • karymk replied 10 years ago

Aren't you glad you asked us? lol

  • pil replied 10 years ago

Joy, mine have been worn once and washed three times thanks to my unfortunate kahlua incident. They may have shortened in length just a bit, or maybe they just lie better since they have softened up a bit. I haven't felt any noticeable stretching after wearing for a while.

  • Joy replied 10 years ago

Lol, karymk . Pil, thank you for the washing and stretching information. I will wash before shortening and hope they do shrink a bit, in length anyway. Did you hang to dry?

  • Aleta replied 10 years ago

Goodness isn't it interesting that everyone has a different idea on the fit of these jeans? I originally favoured the smaller size, but when you read the comments of those that prefer the larger ones, I can see their point of view, so I'm afraid I am now on the fence, sorry!

One thing that I am sure of though is that you look fabulous in ivory, really stunning.

  • pil replied 10 years ago

Yes, I meant to include they were washed cold dried flat.

  • unfrumped replied 10 years ago

This is tough! I like the rear view of the smaller size but the front view of the larger. I kind of like them as a narrow trouser rather than a skinny jean. After seeing about any shrinkage I would hem them for just a bit of scrunch but not too much as I think too much scrunch overwhelms your small frame.
The color is just perfect for you!
Now I'm wanting to try but usually can't fit into anything described as slim through hips and I have no idea what size.

  • Joy replied 10 years ago

Aleta and Unfrumped, it is hard when there is no clear point of view. My body is probably too twisted to get an accurate rear view.
Pil, thank you for clarifying. This is a great help.

  • Gaylene replied 10 years ago

Hands down, my vote is for the larger jean because I think it is a more updated look. I'd second Angie's suggestion to play around with some of your tops before making the final decision.

But do take my opinion with a grain of salt because I'm in the process of purging most of my body-con items. I think I've just grown weary of the skinny, jeans-that-look-like-leggings and shrunken, short jackets that have held sway for so long. To my eye, a slightly looser fit is a more interesting shape to work with these days.
