K/R: Trying to make a decision on these tall boots

Recently I've shown you these boots with a couple of pairs of jeans but now realize that I size up in skinny jeans and they are not really skinny enough for tucking into boots.
This time I'm showing them with a skirt outfit that I wore recently. I don't wear skirts above my knees. Do these boots work? Would shorter be better? I love these boots but they are expensive for me and I don't want to make a mistake. I don't want to keep the but still be looking for a more perfect one. I think they fit as close to my leg as I'm likely to find and are comfortable. I don't think the foot looks as big in real life as in the photo.
I am eager to have your thoughts. What do you think?
1/2 with pleated knit skirt
3/4 with jeans shown on previous posts.
ETA: boots with a shorter sweater dress.

Joy- when worn with the skirt, they do appear a little on the tall side for my tastes.  I quite like them with the plaid jeans...not so much with the gold.  It doesn't sound like you are sold on them...you might need to keep looking :-/

    I like them a lot!

They are a lovely pair of boots and they look great on you. I prefer them with the skirt than with the pants.

But, but, but... if you're feeling doubtful you probably shouldn't keep them. I have the impression you're liking the idea of the style a lot more than you seem to like the reality. Maybe the thing to do is abandon the knee boot project and focus on something else. Then you'll find the perfect pair when you least expect it.

Nothing worse than having something super nice that you spent a lot of money on languishing in the closet because you just can't seem to style it. I know this from bitter experience!

Love the boots and they look great. Personally I think they would work best with skirts when worn with dark or opaque tights in the color of the boot. Where I live (continental Europe) hardly anybody wears 'bare' legs with boots.Good luck on deciding!

I do like these boots on you...but, I am not the one wearing them...If you are hesitant, I would let these go and as approprio said you will find some that makes your heart sing when you least expect to...

I think they look like a great fit Joy.  You have slim legs so probably have trouble finding boots that fit this well.  I have a pair of really tall boots and wear them with skirts and like the way they look and feel but I am in a cold place.

I think they look fantastic. No fit issues apparent in the photos at all. But you need to be comfortable. What is making you hesitate?

Joy, they are gorgeous boots. And they look good on you. I do see that they are maybe a touch tall (I noticed the shaft height and winced during NAS because it's that borderline height that usually doesn't work for me, but might if I got lucky). I think you are lucky here in that they will look just fine with darker hose. Could even be sheer darker hose and it would be fine. But will you wear them enough that way to make them worthwhile to you?

The thing is, I know that tall boots are a HEWI for you. Last year I bought two pair (they are a HEWI for me, also) and I have to confess that I rarely wore the dressy ones that I expected to wear all the time. (The more casual style got a lot of wear). But even though I didn't wear the grey ones a lot, I am still not sorry I splurged on them. They are beautiful boots and classic enough that they will serve for years. Who is to say that I won't wear more dresses this winter than last? It's not a polar vortex every year.

These boots look incredibly versatile and very classic. So if they are without question the best things you've seen and felt for years and you can afford them, I say hang onto them.

Last year I bought and returned the Aquatalia moto boot at NAS. Well, I lived to regret that decision and snapped up this year's version as soon as it appeared. Good boots are hard to find. And weather proof boots are even more important.

I LOVE the boots. They look perfect. Who made them, Joy? And where did you buy them?

  • deb replied 9 years ago

    These are definitely keepers!

  • Joy replied 9 years ago

I greatly appreciate all your thoughts and wisdom.
Angie,I tried to add the pick link and don't know why it isn't there. These I think we're one of your NAS picks, the Aquatalia by Marvin K weatherproof "Obsession". I sent for them at the NAS sale as my Nordstroms didn't carry them and it has only recently been cool enough to try them for comfort.
Suz, you are right. These boots have been HEWI for me for years. I don't really want to give them up. They tick off nearly all the boxes for my needs and are fabulous quality. I'm pretty sure that I will keep them.
I found a cobbler who was able to make my black and chocolate brown ECCO boots fit better in the calf, but they are quite casual, especially the black ones.
If Angie feels that these look perfect, then they are keepers. :)

I recognized these boots - they broke my heart during NAS when the shaft fit was perfect but too narrow in the foot :-(
I think they fit you great. They do not look too tall to my eye - are they comfortable when you sit down? If yes then they are keepers - gorgeous!

    They look amazing! Keep!

  • Suz replied 9 years ago

So glad you are keeping -- and wow, I am wishing I ordered them, too! Next year!! :)

  • Joy replied 9 years ago

Sveta, the height is comfortable even sitting down. I ordered some boots the year before that were too tall for comfort and know what you mean.

  • shiny replied 9 years ago

What is the shaft height, if I may ask?

I've been tall boot shopping a lot lately. I have found some boots that are oh-so-close... by that I mean the fit in the calf is perfect and snug. However I also wind up with same effect as you, when trying to tuck skinny jeans into them. And I'm talking even with my skinniest skinnies. I've concluded it's not the skinnies. It's the boot. If the boot shaft was just a smidgen shorter - hitting at a wider place on the calf, rather than above the widest place --  then the skinnies would tuck better because the top of the boot would grab and hold the skinnies and keep them smoothly in place, so they don't bunch up at the knee.

It's hard to describe in words but let me try again: the boots I've found fit snuggly and perfectly in the widest part of my calf, as they should. But because they are a smidgen too tall, they appear to gape at the top. Because the boot is hitting not at my calf, but above it.

The reason I figured this out is because I tried on a pair of Frye boots (Dorado) that were just a tad too tall, but that had slouchy leather, slouchy enough that I could scrunch them down a bit, just enough that they'd hold tight at the calf, at my preferred/ideal height for tall boots. However, the boots would then ride back up again when I attempted to walk -- and lo and behold -- my skinnies would then scrunch up around the knees.

oooooooh. The Obsessions. OF COURSE. I couldn't see their distinctive texture on the photos. Slam dunk keep. Don't think twice, Joy. Wear them right away. Much love. xo

    Here they are, Jennifer:

  • Joy replied 9 years ago

Shiny, I think you are right that these and other tall boots tend to end above my calves. Mine are size 8R and the circumference is closer to 13 than 14 without stretching the panel. I think they are 15 to 15.5 " high. The stretch panel is really fab...not fabric but woven leather. I love the texture. The description says the toe is round but it is almond shaped.

  • Joy replied 9 years ago

I did it. I wore the boots to Mass this morning with an alpaca sweater dress that is shorter and micro black fishnets. It felt good. Are the proportions ok?
I added a photo to the post and will add it here too.

Excellent Joy.  I love the boots on you and am glad you decided they work.  One HEWI off your list.  :)
