K/R: picking the best fruit ( warning: picture heavy)

You may have seen my post on the Eileen Fisher lantern dress. I liked the deep blue so much that I ordered two more sale versions to try and then saw one at the Rack. I need to decide if I should keep any of these and, if so, which one. The first is rhubarb, which is a cherry red, which Debbie got.
Second is another red, strawberry. It is a coral red. Third is sweet plum, which is not pastel but a rich midtone. All are rich saturated colors. Included are some toppers I am also trying for a tone-on-tone but I have other toppers I can use.
1/2. The dress I kept in Sapphire.
3/4. The Sapphire dress with sleeveless top in same color. Does this add anything? I'm thinking of returning this top.
5/6. The dress Debbie has in Rhubarb.
7/8. The dress in Strawberry ( a bit more coral than Rhubarb)
9/10. Only other piece I could find in this color, a long sleeved top in same color and fabric as the dress. Is this too much worn over the dress for cool weather?
11-13. Dress in Sweet Plum.
14. Same dress with open weave linen blend boxy sweater
15/16 same dress with diagonal sleeve tee in same color and fabric for different look
17: dress with belt
(Hidden photos were duplicates)
I would love your thoughts and brutally honest opinions on any of these dresses and possible additions. I think the colors are pretty accurate, at least on my screen. What should I return? The only thing I'm keeping for sure is the dress in blue. It has already been worn several times.

Gorgeous dress; I can see why you want to duplicate!

The saphire sleeveless top does not add anything; return if you will not wear it with other things.

Both dresses in the other colors look fantastic, so I can't help you choose.  I like the tone-on-tone sleeved tops with them, particularly the drapiness of #9. Does one color resonate more with you?

  • Astrid replied 10 years ago

I agree with Isis about the top. From the colors I like the rhubarb best, but I guess it depends on what colors you want to pair it with. Did you try your favourite toppers with the different colors yet?

  • rae replied 10 years ago

Ah, can see why you love this dress!!

I don't think the top adds anything. Better without. As for the second color, I think whatever color 6-10 is lights up your complexion better. :)

  • Joy replied 10 years ago

I like all the odors and am having a hard time deciding between them. I go back and forth between the rhubarb and strawberry. I also like the less bright plum a lot.
Astrid, I have neutral toppers like blue, faded blue and white denim jackets, ivory, chocolate and light grey cardigans and the blue EF cardigan I got for the blue dress that will work with any of these dresses. If I decide on rhubarb or plum, there are still sale cardis available to order too for those colors. The strawberry from the Rack is the least expensive, but not by enough to keep it if another color is better.

I really love the blue you chose and I like the dress in 7/8 and 9/10 due to the color and the way it looks with the sweater top. But you really can't go wrong with what you've shown here so I say choose your favorite color!

  • Joy replied 10 years ago

I've been holding these dresses up to my naked face again and again. None of them is perfect. The plum is the best with my hair and is ok with my skin tones. I'm wondering if I should stalk this dress in "firefly", a tomato red. I've seen it full price at Nordstroms but don't see the dress on-line. In the long run, it would be the best color on me for a "glow". Since it's another red, I'd either return the reds and plum things or keep the plum and hope to find a firefly dress later. What to do?

  • unfrumped replied 10 years ago

For color flattery alone, I vote rhubarb.

I assumed I'd like the cool pinks better, but from the photos you can really rock  the warmer color, and it looks so summery; yet it is cooler than  the very warm orangey strawberry, so it's kind of the best of both.

Sure, it should play nicely with your other items, but with big dose of  bold color, you should really like it yourself, and  with your coloring. What do they look like to you? I would check them  out in bright natural light, too.

  • Suz replied 10 years ago

Gosh, Joy. They all look great on you in the photos!! Truly. I don't know which is the best, really. Maybe think about which one would give you the highest happiness factor to wear?

I vote return the sleeveless top unless you would like it in other contexts.

  • replied 10 years ago

I love the rhubarb, but I can't see what it looks like next to your face. I know it would look the best on me, lol! I'd so glad you're keeping the blue because that color really is a no-brainer. I guess I'd try to track down the firefly color if you know that will be the best color on you. I doubt you'll be sorry.

I like the way the short sleeved top changes the cut of the dress if you think it would be practical. It would be too hot to wear out and about, but it would make the dress more church appropriate, and there you'd have A/C I'm guessing.

And may I say you look absolutely slammin' in a belt? What a waist you have woman; show it off! ;)

  • Joy replied 10 years ago

Claire, thank you for mentioning the belt. I wondered whether or not it works. The waist is a happy accident of belt + dress style as I have no waist.
The short sleeved plum top will probably be a keeper no matter what I do with the dress as I found it at the Rack for 85% off.
I do need to find a way to make any of these I keep church and AC appropriate. There's always a denim jacket, but in high summer even those are too warm.
Suz, the blue is very high happiness factor and I like the colors and fit of all of these equally, but you pose a good way to make a decision. Maybe I need to think more of outfit happiness factor. I have comfy flats that match the rhubarb color, for example.

  • Ornella replied 10 years ago

My personal favorite on you is the Sapphire one, followed by Sweet Plum. But, whatever you decide, you won't go wrong.

Now I want one too... I have a feeling this could be very pear-friendly dress too. I have a dress with 'tulip' skirt and love it to bits.

  • Marley replied 10 years ago

Love the blue - but I don't think that sleeveless topper is doing anything for it.  Of the reds, I think the rhubarb works best - although it is kind of hard to tell since we can't see your face!  To me, the strawberry red is just too bright - and I think that the firefly red would be too.  Also, love the plum - great color on you!  The belt looks great, love the topper over the plum - not crazy about the topper that you have over the strawberry red.  You look great in this style - I can see why you are going for more than one!

  • Glory replied 10 years ago

Oh dear, I am the worst decision maker ever and often duplicate items that I love and buy in a couple of colours.
How many are you allowing yourself to purchase? :) Maybe no decision is required if the answer is 4 or 5.
If not, my vote goes to 1 Blue, and then the orange in picture 7 - 10. IMHO The blue is a wonderful dress for dress.ing up and down because the colour is so royal. The orange/coral is meant for your hair and complexion and will be a wonderful pick me up colour for summer.

  • Mary Beth (formerly LBD) replied 10 years ago

I really like the blue on you, but I say send the top back, if you won't wear it with anything else.

I liked the strawberry a lot, too, and the sweater you put over it.  The rhubarb is very pretty on you too - I thought you looked great in either red, so I think it comes down to a matter of preference.  I would say put that long-sleeve top aside, and don't let that decide which red - pick the red that gives you the happier feeling when you see it on you.

I was 'meh' about the plum, until you put the sweater and the belt on it, then I thought, wow!

So I'm going to be a bad little shopping elf and say:  blue dress and pick a red dress... and if your funds stretch to it, that plum dress and the sweater...  :D :D :D

  • Angie replied 10 years ago

Another vote for rhubarb! Excellent decision to double up, Joy.

  • Joy replied 10 years ago

I recently purged three summer dresses, mostly because they feel just too short on a woman my age. So I have dresses on my summer list. I was thinking one more besides the blue. If they get lots of wear, and I think they will, I would look for a third on sale later. However, these are reduced now, which makes them tempting.

  • Jjsloane replied 10 years ago

Fruit salad! Get them all!! Kidding, but you can't go wrong the fit is amazing on you and all colors work for you.

  • Joy replied 10 years ago

Thank you, Angie. That settles it then. I'm happy that you feel it's ok to duplicate. Dresses that are this length and easy to care for are so hard to find.

  • Jaime replied 10 years ago

This dress is absolutely gorgeous on you and I can see why you want to duplicate. Based on the colors in the pictures I pick the rhubarb. I do love how  the fit of the top in #9,10 the best of the over shirts. The blue tank does not add. You have found your dress!

  • Nicole D replied 10 years ago

Ha ha!  I like rhubarb too (like Angie, I see).  I don't think the tops add much.  LOVE the belt.  So, why not return everything else and stalk "firefly" for fun (keep the sapphire one of course).

  • Peri replied 10 years ago

Hi Joy...you might have started a run on these dresses. I just went to Nords online and had the sapphire and the rhubarb in my shopping cart and before I could check out the sapphire was gone!

So disappointed...that was the color I figured I would like best. If I like them at all...my hunt is for a dress for a casual outdoor wedding.

So, tell me...how do I "stalk" a dress? I imagine I check often to see if one has been returned. Any other suggestions? I do want the sale price!

  • Joy replied 10 years ago

Others can tell you better than I how to stalk the dress. I often put things in my wish list and watch the price. You could Google Eileen Fisher sapphire lantern dress and see if it is being offered somewhere else. You might check Dillard's site to see if they have it. I think Debbie ordered a different EF dress from them. Good luck. It would be a great dress for a casual outdoor wedding.

  • Deborah replied 10 years ago

I adore the blue on you and so glad to hear that is a keeper.  I prefer the Rhubarb or coral but I can't decide which.  At a pinch, I would choose the coral:)  I love this dress for you Joy, I think it fits with your elegant eclectic persona and does have a gentle arty vibe about it.

  • pil replied 10 years ago

Rhubarb is my pick too, and it has absolutely nothing to do with the rhubarb tart sitting on my stove right now : )

  • Debora replied 10 years ago

Joy, I love these dresses so much on you! Te sapphire blue is my favorite, followed by the rhubarb. I think I may need to copy you. How does the sizing run?

  • Joy replied 10 years ago

Eileen Fisher often runs big but I think this dress is pretty true to size or just slightly large.  I bought an XS which they say is a 2-4.  A small busted size 6 could wear this size too.  It's a pull-over-the-head stretchy style, so very forgiving. The fabric is heavy enough not to be clingy.  Read the reviews.  It seems to work for a wide variety of body types and bust sizes.

  • Debora replied 10 years ago

Thanks, Joy! I am going to see if I can track down an XS. I like that it is a heavier knit. Both you and Debbie look stunning in it. I'll keep you posted!

  • saramir replied 10 years ago

Love this dress on you! I don't have much to add except that I think the belted versions look extra great.

  • Joy replied 10 years ago

Crossing my fingers for you, Debora. I notice that the sapphire comes and goes on the site. They had it in xs this morning but not last night. I'd call or do a live chat. They still had the rhubarb xs tonight because I was going to return and reorder because the price had dropped, but the Live Chat helper gave me a price adjustment.
Saramir, thank you for your comment about the belt. It's so helpful to know how it looks to others.

  • Sveta replied 10 years ago

Blue has no competition of course but other colors are lovely too. I like Strawberry the least and Plum the best out of them. Rhubarb is good too but I have a weak spot for anything purple :-)
I think it looks good with the belt as well.

  • Joy replied 10 years ago

Thank you, Sveta. I'm getting very tempted to keep the plum too. Each has a different feel.. Sapphire, rhubarb and plum anyway. But then a voice in my head tells me that that's too many of the same dress.

  • Debbie replied 10 years ago

OK I have gone nuts for this dress. I am trying to track the sapphire down and understand the duplication entirely. I love the rhubarb on you. The plum looks great too. I would be tempted to keep both. I am off to look at the firefly color you talked about.
Let us know what you do.

  • rachylou replied 10 years ago

    The rhubarb is knockout!
