K/R and outfit lab for EF dress

I have long wanted a white summer dress and ordered this one on sale at Eileen Fisher, however I wonder if it is too limited.
On the plus side
1. It is long enough (maybe too long?)
2. It is summery without being too bare.
3. It seems to fit well
4. It is not too sheer and comes with it’s own slip.
5. It is feminine without being too sweet and juvenile.
Cons:
1. It is a lot of white.
2. It is handkerchief linen and wrinkles.
3. I wonder if it can be adapted for fall and spring...hence the outfit lab.

1:(1&6)basic dress
The rest of the photos show various toppers. What looks, if any, do you like? I welcome your thoughts and suggestions. Vote Yay if I should keep the dress, Nay if it should be returned.

I like it a lot! To me it looks best on its own or with the more structured shorter toppers.

Maybe a little nightgown-ish in white. And, linen says summer-only to me.

  • Murph11 replied 4 years ago

That said, it's wonderful for all your plus points :-)

    What suntiger said!

I like it on you - to me it is really a summer dress and harder to work in the cooler seasons. I like 2 5 12 and 15 best for toppers.

  • kellygirl replied 4 years ago

Love it on it's own especially. I also like it with the short white jacket and vest.

Questions. If I keep the dress, should it be shortened? Is the neckline too low for me? I did not press it yet. What you see is a linen dress right out of its bag that was packed with a couple of shoe boxes in a bigger box.

I like the first three renditions. Cute dress! For hot high Summer weather only.

#1, 3, and 15 are my favorites. I don't think EF's handkerchief linen will work well for spring or fall.

  • Bonnie replied 4 years ago

The dress fits well and I like it will the toppers, too. My favorites are #6, 11, 12, and 19.

Looks good to me, and I think for summer only.

  • Marilyn replied 4 years ago

Yay from me.  Very summery......I would reserve it for that.  For a topper I prefer the white jacket and white vest.

  • Joy replied 4 years ago

Yay/ Nay is 8-1 but I am leaning toward sending this dress back. The white toppers. jacket and vest, are the most liked. The white jacket is also an EF handkerchief linen piece. The white vest is denim and a popular summer third piece. I have other summer dresses and don’t really need this one. I just thought I needed a white dress.

I voted yay. I like it best with the white vest, black and white poncho and olive green jacket. I think the neckline is fine. You could maybe take a couple of inches off the length. Super colour on you.

What Angie said - high hot summer. I would add resort as well, if you do a winter escape vacation to somewhere warm. It is a lovely, ethereal dress, but looks high maintenance. I'm thinking return, and keep looking.

FWIW, I've worn my (thrifted) white dress 4 times this summer. It was a HEWI and I love it. It is a classic and scratches an itch. BUT, as you say, it's a lot of white!

  • Joy replied 4 years ago

Thank you Brooklyn, I liked those outfits too. The olive jacket is an old EF piece that I have had for years. It was an experiment with fall colors and the white. The black and white poncho thing is made of two scarves and from consignment. They also have one in reverse colors...white with black, that I am tempted to buy if it is still there.
Thank you, Runcarla. I really like your white dress. How do you like styling it best? One of the pros of the dress I have is that it is pull on with no back zipper, but I love the sheath style. It is just that as one gets older, that zipper gets harder to deal with.

I quite like it! 19 is the only outfit that gives me pause... I feel maybe a different shoe. A taller boot or a shoe-shoe.

  • Katerina replied 4 years ago

I like the dress, looks very nice on you! The neckline is pretty. I think the length is good too, but I am not good at assessing length, so I leave that one to others. I also like many of the combinations you have tried here. I prefer those with the lighter, more summery shoes. My favorites are the black and white scarf poncho, the orange poncho and the long cardigans. I also like the white jacket in picture two. I vote keep the dress.

I like the dress Joy, great summer . My favorite is #2, with white denim jacket. I also like long light cardi.

Lovely dress on you .Am agreeing that it is a high summer piece. If you need a topper, what Suntiger said.

  • Joy replied 4 years ago

Thank you for your comments. You are convincing me to keep the dress for high summer.
Rachylou, #19 was an attempt to find a way to wear the dress in the fall. I agree that the faux leather open jacket and booties are just too heavy looking for this dress.
Katerina and Mirjana, i like those outfits too.
Cardiff Girl, we don’t often have a full day of high summer in the mountains, but the sun is intense, so a topper for cool mornings and evenings that can be removed mid day is usually needed. If it turns out to be windy and/ or cloudy, it may stay on alll day.

I’m glad you’re keeping it. I would probably wear a denim jacket with it, and maybe add another bit of blue to the outfit.

  • Joy replied 4 years ago

JAileen, that is a good idea and will make it look a like more casual..

  • Jaime replied 4 years ago

Looks great on its own and with lighter more tonal layers. I think you will get a lot of use out of it.

  • Joy replied 4 years ago

Thank you , Shevia. I can do tonal layers and am too busy to pack it up to send back. I’d better start wearing it soon or it will have to wait until next summer.
