K/R: Am I Wearing Sale Blinders?

I'm showing you some things that followed me home from The Rack but really want your honest opinion on these for me.
First up is a black lace topper that opens in back. My thoughts were to wear it over my black tank and sheath dresses when I need a little shoulder coverage but not warmth. The lace is matte, not shiny; not exquisite but not too shabby either. I'm showing it with a dress and with a black tank and jeans. It's hard to show the movement and back interest. (1-3).
Next up is a look I love on others but can overwhelm me. The blush shell is voluminous under more soft silky volume of a kimono-esque open topper. It's a great weight for summer and I have a sugar eye for these Citron brand prints. This one has blush, grey and soft black and goes with much I have. If I wear structured pieces underneath, can I pull this off or should I forget about it? (4-7)

I have to run, but had to chime in to say that I LOVE the lace top. It's killer and you styled it beautifully with the jeans. xo

Thank you, Angie. If I wear it a lot, I will look for an exquisite version.

I really like the black too. I'm not convinced about the other. The colors are lovely on you, but it's so loose I'm not sure that you wouldn't have to work hard to make it work in the styling.

I love that lace top on you. I have to admit i have a sugar eye for a kimono, so i love it as well.

Love the lace AND the kimono!!

  • rabbit replied 10 years ago

Love both, especially the kimono actually.  I like both the oversized volume and subtle print.

Love the lace top! I can see you wearing that often. I like the kimono look too. I have one I need to post too.

Love the lace top. Kimonos are too unstructured for my taste, so I'll leave that one to the experts.

The lace top is stunning on you. I am not as fond of the kimono, but that may just be my bias against flowy and unstructured pieces.

I'm on board with the majority here. The lace top is yay! Not sure about the kimono. It does look a bit boxy, which to my eye fights with its flowiness...

Lace looks great.  I like the kimono, but wonder how it would look over a more fitted under layer.  Seems like a bit too much cloth floating around you, although I do think it looks nice enough for a summer day.

LOVE the lace top on you. A keeper for certain.

I like both, but don't you have other kimonos? Would you wear more than one?

  • Joy replied 10 years ago

It sounds like the lace top stays with mixed reviews on the kimono. Pil, I do have other kimono type tops but of different colors, lengths and fabrics. This one is longer, more muted, and has more volume than the others. I have a black with red , blue and turquoise short silk, a black with citron linen mid length, a real tomato red silk with black trim and cream lining that is about this length, and a white cotton narrow cut with red and cobalt flowers. I think that I would wear them all as just the right weight for our hot summers.
Ms Maven, you are probably right about a more fitted under layer. This was inspired by something Dame Judy Dench might wear, but of course I don't have her curves, therefore Ambergreen's noting how boxy it looks on my angles. It just feels so feminine but I may be deluded.

The lace top is really stunning on you, and I like the kimono top on you very much also. It's just a different look, but I think it still suits you.

  • Gigi replied 10 years ago

    I like them both!

Yes. You MUST keep the lace top. The kimono top I have no strong feeling about. It feels hippie to me. Are you hippie, Joy?
