Knee high boots with boyfriend jeans?

Reviewing my winter wear this weekend I had an"ah ha" moment. I've very seldom worn jeans tucked into tall boots, even though it has been cold and we've had snow and slush. I will wear tall boots with a dress or skirt, so what's the problem? I found that I don't really own skinny jeans. Those that say they are skinny have been sized up to fit more loosely, too loose to look good tucked...Lots of volume above the boot. Does anyone else find that they struggle with this?

Joy, that's the main reason that I have kept some skinny and even jogging style jeans in my wardrobe. I tend to wear my BFs and slouchy skinnies on dry days when booties would be okay outdoors. Or on my strictly indoor days. I then do my tucking on the miserable days -- with skinnies. Some of our forum members look fantastic in BFs tucked into boots. At first I thought this was a matter of height (it works for Ceit). But then Mary did it today and looks fab. The secret, I think, is that her boots have a bit of a heel (if I am not mistaken); they are wider at the top; and the other elements of her outfit are similarly fluid.

I do it sometimes, although I prefer my midcalf boots with bf jeans. I find it helps to tuck the jeans into my socks first.  That keeps them from shifting around and bunching too much at the top.

ETA: It's definitely RATE though. You just have to be OK with that.

I agree with Suz! I have another thought: if you have sleek-fitting boots, you might try layering them under the BF jeans, with the jeans rolled up. I think this could work if you are okay with a creative look. It's worth a try, anyway.

Yep. I don't like skinnies. I just don't. My skinnies are straightlegs that don't tuck well. I save my boots for skirts when it is warm enough.

Have you tried tucking skinny crops into tall boots? It might expand your options. I have done it and get more wear out of warmer weather clothes.

I have definitely worn bf's and similar fits with tall boots. I say try it and see what you think.

Exactly what Suz said. Mother Nature plays a huge role in jean choices in my world!

Thank you all for your solutions and ideas to try. Suz, I may have one very old air of mid-calf slouchy boots with a larger opening that may work.
Diana, it's worth a try although RATE doesn't usually feel right.
Firecracker, I'll look to see if any of my jeans will do this. Most are skinny jeans sized up, so not very wide but not skinny either.
Thistle, you know exactly what I mean.
Aquamarine, I don't do crops (DH hates them) but have some clam diggers. They come to the lower part of the knee when unrolled. That's shorter than the top of any of my boots but maybe I can do something with socks. Good idea.
Shevia, I tried one pair last week but it looked odd. I'll try with other jeans and boots. It just occurred to me that my riding boots have buckles at the top cinched as tight as they can possibly go. I'll try them loosened up some.
    So true, Elizabeth ;)
