June Challenge: JCrew Edition

Winding up this week's look at old summer season pieces still in my closet for review, today I have 2 basics from JCrew. The bottoms are Matchstick clam diggers bought my first summer on YLF. The tee is also an old JCrew buy. Here I'm attempting to update it with a semituck. Is it working?
When I bought the clams, I wore them mostly unrolled like the last photo or tucked under like the second photo. Last summer I mostly wore them cuffed like the first photo. Which looks best, if any?
Both pieces are still in excellent condition in spite of lots of use. Are either or both too fitted for this summer's look? Should I look for a slouchy replacement?

YOU LOOK FABULOUS.  I cannot tell you how much I have enjoyed your June Challenge posts.

I do no think they are too fitted, but I will watch the forum to see what others think.

Joy, I wouldn't say the silhouette is fashion forward. But I would say that you look amazing in these pieces! ;) So if "classic" is okay with you then wear away! You could update with a different shoe, perhaps, and/ or a topper (it not too hot). Or you could simply glory in the fact that you can look good in fitted clothes and leave it at that!

Also, I love how both you and Diana are wearing orange and blue today. It honours the Netherlands and Angie!

Sterling and Suz, I am sitting at the Symphony waiting for the music to start and have s big smile on my face after reading your lovely comments. I have been studying the outfits on the audience. So fun. I'm in EF bone-out and getting compliments from total strangers. It's of silky scarf tops with white pants and maxi dresses tonight.
    Just wanted to thank you.

I am wanting a less fitted top look over the slimmer shorts. I have found somd that are not really slouchy or oversized but just fluid enough to look right on me and not actually trendy.

I'm glad I'm not the only one who goes out on the town and spends half the time scoping out what other people are wearing!

I wouldn't replace either, necessarily, but might switch for a slouchy & fitted combination sometimes.

Oh, have so much fun at the symphony! I agree both pieces are still great for you, styling each with a more fluid option will make the look more fashion forward, but both are flattering and classic.

I prefer the pants rolled in no 1, but like no 2 as well. Would definitely prefer a fluid top with them. I don't know if I would keep the tee, tbh. I went through my closet about a year ago and got rid of most of my fitted tees or relegated them to sleepwear. I was not wearing them because the loose fit ones are so much more comfortable in summer, as well as being more fashionable. And, in the end, a tee is not a huge investment. But I agree with others that it is flattering on you, so if you feel you would wear it, and not be constantly reaching for something more fluid, then keep it!

i really like these rolled, not so much unrolled…and i'd love to see these with a more casual shoe. and i just want to say, you look fab in orange!

Ok.  I looked at the pictures again and I read the other poster's comments.  I do understand why some said they would prefer a more fluid top, but I disagree.

You look "sleek" in the pictures.  The sleekness makes the outfit look well coordinated, well proportioned, and stylish.  If you added a different top, you would be considered more "fashion forward," but I wonder if you wouldn't also look a bit more sloppy.

It is summer here and most women I see are making little effort.  We all look hot and sweaty.  I might be tired of anything even remotely perceived as "sloppy."

I like the fitted pieces on your figure. Work it girl! They are classics.  I do think you should lose the semi tuck in this case.   The glasses and shoes are just the ticket to tie it all together.  You could pull in a different colored clutch or something with a pattern.  How about a silk scarf tied onto your purse?

Love it. I prefer the 1st one. You look great in these pieces and I think you should hang on to them!

  • Maneera replied 8 years ago

I think you look like a total knockout in completely fitted clothes. I'm gonna agree 100% with Suz; this might not be a so-called Fashion Forward look, but its a look you wear with aplomb!

I would change a thing about it. This is a nice casual outfit that is fun and playful (because of the colors), yet it's stylish with a classic vibe to it (because of the silhouette). Love it!

Sorry typing error! I wouldn't change a thing about this outfit, is what I mean. And yes, I love #1 just a smidge more, but all 3 looks are great
