June Challenge Continues: the styling of the new. The monkey, snake, Princess shirt

I realized that I have several pieces new to me that it has been too cold to play with until now. So this week my challenge is to find some ways to style them that are YLF approved.
First up is the newest, an eBay win of a Citron of Santa Monica shirt, patterned with palm trees, monkeys, snakes, and Princess. Today I am wearing it with rolled faded jeans, a black tank, orange clutch and my gold/bronze loafers and belt.
1-2: the shirt worn buttoned and untucked.
3-4: the shirt semitucked.
5: a scarf to fill in the neckline.
6: neckline without the scarf
7: back of shirt
I would love to know your preferences and other ideas for styling this new piece.

The shirt looks great how you styled it here Joy. The jeans are the perfect shade to pick up on the shade of blue in the print. I like it best tucked/semi-tucked and without neck scarf. I could easily see it with long cream linen shorts too, or white jeans and white shoes.

Wow what an amazing shirt! I paticularly love it with the gold loafers. It miight also look great for a fun night out with a slim dark bottom (pants, jeans or maybe pencil skirt) paired with heeled boots?

Thank you, Diane. Your comments are very helpful. I plan to wear this out to a casual get together tonight and use your preferences. I like your styling idea. I don't have long linen shorts in cream but do have white denim or dark taupe linen ankle pants that can be rolled.

Mipfrog, we must have posted at the same time. I was just thinking about the gold loafers and wondering if I should change them. Since you like them with this, they will stay.
I like your idea of using a slim dark skirt or pants. I have some booties with small heels. Thank you for the idea.

Joy oh how I love that shirt find! Citron of Monterey, eh? wasn't on my radar.  I like the third pic where you have it half tucked with the belt.  Just looks hipper that way and love the red clutch.  Your loafer isn't a Clark's though is it? Looks less nautical from what I can see....

Karymk, thank you. I think this pattern is so much fun. I found my first Citron piece at Nordstrom's, the kimono inspired jacket that I wore in the weekend post. It has been a workhorse, especially in the summer.
The gold loafers are Born and a few years old. They have the penny slot but are soft leather. I need to take photos and make a custom find.

I agree with karymk - half tucked with a belt, and no scarf.  I'd also add some gold jewellery at the neck - something a little funky to work off of that shirt. And the shirt?  It's crazy!  I have to check out the brand - never heard of it.  This is a fun look on you Joy!

I love your gold Borns.  Mine have the mirror finish and have scuffed horribly despite very few wears. And I adore the shirt - I think I feel more whimsical in summer than in winter.  I'm wearing a hot pink shirt with a snail print today!

I thought that shirt reminded me of your kimono :) I'm also partial to the way you have styled it in 3/4.

  • Nebraskim replied 8 years ago

I love love love that shirt and you rock it out of the park! I love every look.

What a great look!  I love pieces like this that are distinctive but beyond fashion....just always stylish.
I cannot find any suggestions to improve:)

  • Joy replied 8 years ago

Lisap, thank you. I did wear the outfit as you suggested to a meeting tonight, although with only a small gold necklace. I did try a gold dragon pendant but the shirt has so much going on that it didn't add anything. It looked best on the black tank with the shirt worn open, but I didn't choose to wear it that way this time.
Una, I love these Borns and will be very sad when they give out. I agree that whimsical is most welcome in summer.
TracyLiz and Crutcher, I needed this challenge and am enjoying it. Thank you for the encouragement.
Pil, I thought this shirt would be more like the kimono jacket, but it is more like a boxy Hawaiian shirt. The brand's pieces mostly have an oriental print.
Nebraska,I'm and Kiwigal, thank you for your kind words. Your comments made my day.

I love this shirt on you! Very unexpected. Your voice of light wash denim is perfect, as are metallic shoes.
I could see this print worn with olive or brown cotton or linen pants.

  • Joy replied 8 years ago

Thank you, Natalie and Bernard. That shirt is a favorite for sure.
Unfrumped, I like your styling ideas. Thank you for the suggestions.

At first I saw the shirt and thought it's very difficoult to make it work. Then I saw your first outfit and was really blown away. You wear fantastically the most unique pieces.
Anyway, I prefer it tucked with scarf. And I like the suggestion to pair it with olive.

  • Joy replied 8 years ago

Thank you, Chirico. I can't wait for it to warm up so I can try this shirt with olive. Thank you for addressing the scarf. I liked it but wondered if it was too much.
