July Challenge: Color Week July 8,9,10,11,12,13,14

This week, continuing to try all my summer bottoms, add a bag and topper and other accessory, I am going to try to feature my colored bottoms.
First up are deep blush Mossimo high rise skinny jeans rolled up. My top is a peplum floral from last summer, flats are old ecru perforated Aldo brand (#1), bag is a blush shoulder/crossbody tote (#2/3) that is more pink than I realized in the dark store. I used a long pink summer weight Halogen duster cardigan (#4) that is from consignment late last summer. The loose knit snags so this is probably its last season. I wore an assortment of bracelets (#5). One of them plus earrings and pendant necklace (#6) is recent from JJill for credit on a returned gift.
July 9: mint/light aqua jeans, rolled. Same color tank under a second hand Chico’s poncho, pink wedge shoes and pink/blush bag. Accessory is a pile of pearls for Angie’s birthday plus pearl earrings. Sadly I am lacking pearl bracelets. Something to look for.
July 10th: #10-12. Scroll down for more and description.
July 11th: these photos were taken at the very end of a hot busy day with a four year old at the aquarium. Scroll down for more description.
July 12th: yellow wide crops (you knew that was coming) with gold metallic loafers and KS bag and consignment sleeveless yellow top. My topper is a consignment apple green open cardi. Accessories are necklace, earrings and a bead bracelet that was my mother’s.
July 13: Baby blue jeans and watercolor print blouse with lime green topper, more below.
I will add outfits to this thread this week.
July 14 and last outfit for this week. A navy 2-piece dress with floral pattern. Scroll down for details and more photos.

Great top and arm candy. How fably maximal. Lovely with the cardi too.

Joy, do the bottoms seem too tight? They might be jeggings though, in which case they are supposed to be tight. Not sure that's the way to go. What do you think?

  • nemosmom replied 4 years ago

Oooh I love how you're doing a theme this week! I love how your flats pick up the lightness in the floral print. And your jewelry is lovely as always.

  • replied 4 years ago

    Love your color combo!

  • Joy replied 4 years ago

    Thank you, dear ladies.
Angie, I suspect that these are jeggings. They are stretchy and comfortable and fit pretty well, better than most, with a high rise. They were a cheap buy to try. They look good with the NAS velvet pink tee from last year, so I will probably hang on to them for the summer and re-evaluate in the fall. I am not babying them but wear them to do messy stuff, so that may shorten the time I keep them. The velvet tee may not be long enough to wear with these. I don’t think a tight fit is the way I should go.
Nemosmom, the yellow wide crops will make an appearance as will jeans in a reddish color, mint, and turquoise and maybe baby blue. I also plan to try my russet pants and reddish skirt. Several of these pieces may be one season wonders. I hope to determine what works and what does not.
Suntiger, I hope this outfit is not too Garanimal. I could tone it down with a black cardi just like the pink one only black.

What a beautiful print top and it looks really good with the skinny jeans. You have great jewelry and I really like your new pendant necklace.

  • Jaime replied 4 years ago

Cool as a cucumber! Love the accessories too.

  • Joy replied 4 years ago

Thank you, Bonnie and Shevia. This outfit turned out to be just right for my day.

  • Joy replied 4 years ago

Photos added above for July 9th. Topper is a colorful poncho like piece from consignment last summer. The jeans are mint/ pale aqua and are made of recycled plastic bottles. They look a little wrinkled but can be smoothed out. I feel pretty in the color and comfortable but do they look ok? The poncho is on its way out as it is pilling. I will only wear it for times it has to work hard like with the grandkids. The shoes are old favorites and comfortable. I welcome your thoughts and ideas.

  • Bonnie replied 4 years ago

The poncho looks great in the photos. Too bad it's pilling. I bet the grandkids can hardly wait to see what you are wearing every day.

  • nemosmom replied 4 years ago

Oh my gosh what a beautiful colorway on you! The mint jeans are super cute and look like they fit great.

  • Joy replied 4 years ago

Bonnie, thank you. I am sorry that the poncho is pilling. It is unexpected as it is woven, not a knit. It is a great summer topper for air conditioning.
Nemosmom, the grandkids especially notice my jewelry and like to try it on. I am hoping to use the poncho for something my little granddaughter can play dress up with. Right now she likes a cape and mask to be Super Girl.

  • Jenni NZ replied 4 years ago

Oh Joy that’s so cute about Supergirl! I hope I get to be a grandmother in the next few years. I really love the poncho and the mint jeans.

  • Helena replied 4 years ago

Beautiful colour combos, really love your long blush cardi!

  • Joy replied 4 years ago

Thank you, Jenni. I hope you will get to be a grandmother before long.
Thank you torontogirl. The blush cardi has been a workhorse this spring as it lightens up dark outfits like black, charcoal and navy. I expect to wear it into the fall with rust and browns too.

July 10: My Color was watermelon red with silver accessories. The dress is a thrifted 2-piece linen blend top and skirt from Eileen Fisher. It is linen rich, so cool to wear but it does wrinkle. I wore it out to a ladies luncheon and tour of the Boulder Chautauqua area set high overlooking the city. It was a summer day, hot in the sun but cool and breezy in the shade. The basic dress is sleeveless with simple lines (#1/2) also showing old silver flats, old silver bag and old silver pendent necklace. I used a silver linen jacket as topper, (3-5), and silver scarf and bracelets and necklace and earrings, (5-6). I welcome your comments and suggestions. I will probably get rid of the bag as it has been around for a long time but will probably hang on to the dress and jacket unless you tell me otherwise.

The watermelon dress is A+!! Love all your colour! :D

  • Cardiff girl replied 4 years ago

I love all those warm ,clear colours on you,the mint ,the watermelon especially with the metallic accents, you look yummy like a fruit sorbet!

  • nemosmom replied 4 years ago

LOVE the watermelon on you! What a beautifully breezy look!

  • Joy replied 4 years ago

Thank you, Rachylou, Cardiff girl and nemosmom ( thought of you today at the Denver Aquarium). Watermelon is one of my favorite colors but often hard to find. Today I wore turquoise jeans with a mustard top with a floral print and mustard bag. For lots of walking I wore ECCO silver sneakers and used 2 silver bags, a small waist bag and larger satchel. I liked this combination for essentials in the small bag and room for treats, sunglasses, visor and meds in the larger bag. I hope to add pictures soon from my phone.

July 11th, continuing color week with my summer colored bottoms and trying to not use neutral tops. Today’s outfit was to be on my feet at the Denver Aquarium with a four year old grandson who wanted to read every sign. Four year olds can not read that stuff very fast. Photos were taken this evening after a long day. The turquoise jeans are a higher rise replacement for some I showed you last month. They are comfortable. I hope that they are a better fit. The top has a bit of turquoise in the pattern. ( #1) It is Pelione from the Rack last winter, my first tied waist top. This one is woven Tencel and looks best ironed. I was not very happy with how it looked in photos but seemed to work with pattern mixing with the gingham shirt I used for a light weight topper (#2/3). My accessory was a paper bead necklace made by a local group helping women and a few turquoise colored bracelets. (4) I find I need to be more purposeful about making sets of bracelets for my wardrobe. Earrings are turquoise stones in silver mountings

What a fabulous colour week you have had, Joy! I really like all outfits here. Two of them stod out for me as real knockouts - the poncho with the mint trousers and blush bag plus pearls is stunning on you. What a pitty that the poncho is pilling. In the photo, the outfit looks so interesting and luxurious. Maximal at its best. The colours are beautiful on you.
The second knockout is the watermellon dress with the silver accessories and the silver jacket. Perfection, full stop.
The strong reds are so beautiful on you and you are a master of combining colours and acessorizing.

  • Jenni NZ replied 4 years ago

Yes I am stunned by how gorgeous the watermelon EF outfit is! Please don’t give that away! You must have the most amazing thrift stores in your area!

  • replied 4 years ago

OH!  July 10 literally took my breath away.  It was flawless.

  • Joy replied 4 years ago

Thank you , Katerina, Jenni and Sterling. I will keep the watermelon EF skirt and top. I also found that I may be able to use a razor to shave the tiny pills off the poncho. It will take work and patience, but will be worth it if it works.
Today the yellow wide crops make an appearance. I will need to add photos later.

  • Joy replied 4 years ago

July 12: continuing the gelato look, wide yellow BP crops from the Rack, yellow top from consignment, lime green cardi also from consignment, gold metallic Sherry Topsider loafers and Kate Spade bag.
Jewelry is my tiny gold necklace, a paper bead necklace, glass earrings from the Denver Botanic Garden (6), and a yellow and green bead bracelet that was my mother’s. (4). Too much yellow?
Would the yellow crops be better with neutrals? They have been shortened to about 4” above the ankle bone but the angle of the photos makes them look longer, I think.

  • nemosmom replied 4 years ago

Love your last two outfits, too Joy! You are rocking your color challenge and look beautifully summery!

  • Joy replied 4 years ago

Thank you so much , nemosmom.
July 13th. Baby blue jeans rolled to crops, blue and green water-color print silk top with the lime green cardi as topper. Several necklaces in ocean colors as well as bead bracelets are my accessories. Flats are old Dr Scholls cream patent. Bag is old green shoulder bag.

  • Sal replied 4 years ago

Bit late to this but the watermelon is just so good on you!! Please keep.

I also love the yellow. Really pretty on you.

What a gorgeous happy colourful week.

  • replied 4 years ago

Love the green top and the watermelon the most!

  • Joy replied 4 years ago

Thank you, Sal and suntiger for your helpful comments. Color week is about over. Since this challenge for me is about assessing summer bottoms, next week I plan to consentrate on white bottoms to see what looks ok and what should go.

  • christy replied 4 years ago

    You look great, Joy!

Wow - that watermelon EF is fantastic on you. And I love the final outfit you posted a ton too. You do color so incredibly well!

  • Joy replied 4 years ago

Sunday, July 14: for church. This is less colorful but since I was doing bottoms I wanted a skirt rather than a dress. This is a newer 2-piece dress, Philosophy from Nordstrom Rack. This is not my usual type of print but the floral on navy goes with much in my closet. What cinched the deal was that it is 2-piece and very inexpensive. The skirt is lined cotton and top is rayon with a slash neck worn untucked here. What made it very attractive was that the whole outfit was less than $50.
Today I tried to add color with my thrifted sequined flats, pink pearls and coral/red bag. For fall I can wear rust and browns with it. My topper was a thrifted AT linen navy cardigan but I have several possibilities including long cardies in light pink or rust and my EF navy cardigan or jacket, or white or pale blue. I wonder what you think of this inexpensive dress. Should I keep it? Is the coral bag too bright? It is on its last leg. Are the pink pearls too predictable?

  • Bonnie replied 4 years ago

The dress looks great and I love the way you styled it. You have had a fabulous week of outfits. Challenges are inspiring, aren't they?

  • Joy replied 4 years ago

Bonnie, yes, challenges get us thinking in new ways. This one has been especially timely.

  • lyn67 replied 4 years ago

Great style as always! My faves are  10-12 and the 16-so edgy gramma! Wow!

  • Bijou replied 4 years ago

Joy these are all wonderful and such a treat to see your entire week. My absolute favourite of an very good batch is the red linen dress - it is stunning on you.

Love that you wore pearls on Angie's birthday too and that outfit just radiates happiness, perfect for such a special occasion.
