For Angie's Maximal Challenge: Maximal Taupe and Cream

Inspired by Angie's Challenge and by my challenge this week to wear light toppers that don't fit easily under coats, I came up with this outfit to meet friends for a casual lunch and have a casual dinner. The topper is a Bobeau almost sweatshirt knit worn over an EF silk print shell. Jeans are EF cream denim worn with legs turned under to shorten. I'm not sure that the length is working. Booties are SE taupe suede. Scarf (silk) worn infinity style provides some pattern mixing and was a gift.
Does this work for me? How can I improve this outfit?

    Beautiful!

Oh how educational and insightful. I don't think of taupe when it comes to maximal, but yes! :)

  • Joy replied 8 years ago

Thank you, chewy and Rachylou. I wonder if this taupe outfit qualifies as maximal. When I wore orange, red and pink together it felt much more maximal although there were no patterns or accessories.

Wow, Joy gorgeous outfi, I love, love it so much taupe is very nice for you like that style of jacket, that is you, enjoy.

  • Sisi replied 8 years ago

Very nice! I think there is nothing to improve!

This is beautiful on you, Joy. You look incredibly elegant and hip! I love the taupe on you with the cream/white and it is softly autumnal. I think it works absolutely perfectly and does qualify as maximal -- the jacket's drape, the pattern mix, the contrast between top and bottom -- all of those contribute.

wow....as Rachylou said, i wouldnt have thought of taupe for maximial, but with the layering of textures and structure, it totally works.
i think the lenght of the jeans is working, but wonder if you could turn the jeans up for a large cuff instead.

The scarf and sweater draping plus the pattern makes it maximal while the tonality unifies.

  • Joy replied 8 years ago

Mirjana, and Assisi, thank you. I felt very comfortable in this outfit.
Suz and bj1111, I'm thrilled that you can see what I was trying to do to create a maximal outfit here. Suz, "elegant and hip" makes my day!
Kkards, I will try the large cuff for a change. I usually rolled them but a large cuff would make a nice change and seems more current.

Love the color combination and the scarf really brings it all together.

  • Angie replied 8 years ago

    Love. Great tonal look, Joy.

Roll your pants instead of tucking the hems under, maybe.

  • Cerinda replied 8 years ago

Joy, this is totally totally wonderful!  Maximal, sophisticated, and somehow still subtle.  Wow!

  • April replied 8 years ago

Ooh, Joy, my kind of maximal -- layers and textures without going crazy on the color spectrum.  Love it!

  • Joy replied 8 years ago

Thank you, April. I have lots of these light neutrals.
Bonnie, the scarf choice was last minute. I see what you mean about pulling things together.
Angie, thank you for helping. Rolling it will be, or should I shorten the legs?
    Cerinda, I love your adjectives.

  • JAileen replied 8 years ago

Joy, this is gorgeous! These colors were made for you. I love the tank.

  • Gail replied 8 years ago

Joy, the tonal look is really nice on you and all the pieces work well. You could try to roll the hems if they aren't too long.

  • Ledonna N. replied 8 years ago

I am enjoying these colors on your very lovely

  • Angie replied 8 years ago

I vote shorten, Joy. Even better.

  • Aquamarine replied 8 years ago

    Gorgeous, Joy! Maximal and elegant.

  • Joy replied 8 years ago

Thank you, JAileen, Gail and Ledonna, for your encouraging comments. Angie, shortening would be a good solution. These jeans are an odd length...too long to be crops but too short to wear full length, even with flats.
    ETA: Love your comment, Aquamarine.

Wow joy, this is fantastic!  I haven't been posting comments as often but I have noticed some really great WIWs.

  • Joy replied 8 years ago

Thank you, Texstyle. Your encouragement means a lot to me.

  • Karie replied 8 years ago

The drapey sweater and the scarf worn together = perfection. Beautiful!

  • Jenn replied 8 years ago

Absolutely hem those pants, Joy. I was majorly impressed by your PPL before I saw they were tucked under. This outfit is perfect. I love the subtle, tonal color pairing.

  • Isabel replied 8 years ago

what an elegant look. I think that I will copy it...but with black boots since I have very dark brown hair.  LOVE it !

  • Jaime replied 8 years ago

Great outfit! I vote to hack to pants to this length - it looks just right.

  • Summer replied 8 years ago

Elegantly maximal, Joy!  Those colours are gorgeous on you, too.
