Denim Blinged for a casual festive outfit

Continuing Tanya's everyday festive bling, I am using Angie's blog post for inspiration. Very casual and cold day, dog walking, house cleaning, that sort of day. Silver metallic pullover and cream shirt with silver dots are from Forever 21 a few years ago. ECCO pewter metallic sneakers with Hue silver metallic low socks, coated grey Rich & Skinny jeans and gifted crocheted scarf/necklace with silver metallic beads and sparkly star earrings from a holiday mart. For when I felt chilled, cream cocoon cardigan from Target. I know this is not very fab but it works for my day. I would love your suggestions for improving the outfit or other ways to wear any of these pieces.

I really like what you're doing with casual festive. The metallics brighten everything up but the vibe is still easy. Love the silver top!

  • Joy replied 7 years ago

Another question. Should I not be wearing the silvery sweater and shirt at all as too young? I ask because when I wanted to buy them, the SA wanted to make sure that they were for my granddaughter or niece before she would sell them to me. I said that they were for a niece (who will probably get them when I tire of them, although I didn't tell her that). So is this too young a look?

  • Sara L. replied 7 years ago

What!? She didn't want to sell them to you?  Of course they're not too young for you.  You look great!  You look much better than me on a stay-around-the-house sort of day.  I would be in yoga pants or leggings.

What's up with the SA's question?--it seems kind of impertinent.  And the items look fantastic on you--I don't believe that there is an age limit for these styles.

  • Joy replied 7 years ago

Thank you, Sara and Emily. No she did not want to sell them to me. It made me hesitate to wear them. Do items get diminished in the mind of young people if they see an older person wearing them?

  • El Cee replied 7 years ago

I love your blinged-up denim outfit -- absolutely fabulous and perfectly age appropriate. As Emily just remarked, there is not an age limit for these festive pieces. Do not know what that SA was thinking. All ages should be able to enjoy a little bling.

  • JAileen replied 7 years ago

Yes, the SA was impertinent. I like your outfit a lot. If I were to change anything, it would be the cocoon sweater. It might be the photo, but the color seems off. But otherwise, really nice, and definitely not too young.

  • cindysmith replied 7 years ago

Oh, the hell with that rude SA. No, the items aren't too young for you. The outfit looks great.
My only suggestion is this: it might change the tone of the outfit if you tried a darker cardigan. It would make the silver sweater"pop" more, I think.

  • Joy replied 7 years ago

Thank you for helping me feel more confident about the outfit. Yes, JAileen, the cocoon cardigan has a pinkish cast to it that is not the best
Cynthia, I followed your suggestion of black and am wearing a black knit Ann Taylor wool jacket instead. It sets off the silver of the top and blends yet contrasts nicely with the grey jeans. Brilliant idea.

I can't believe the SA. I think the whole outfit is awesome and you totally rock it! Once an SA tried to talk me out of buying a men's watch because it was "too big" but it's one of my top complimented accessories and I love it. So good for you for getting those and rocking them!

  • UmmLila (Lisa) replied 7 years ago

No, it's not too young. You look excellent, as always

  • replied 7 years ago

Once again, you nailed it.  This might actually be my favorite to date.

  • Andrea H replied 7 years ago

I am really, really enjoying your festive outfit series and I think you look great in all of them!  And I kinda want those sneakers now. (Someone stop me before I buy more sneakers, plz.)

  • Joy replied 7 years ago

Ipr200, I have regretted times when I let an SA talk me into something.
Thank you, Sterling and UmmLila. Andrea, get the sneakers. You will not regret it. I actually duplicated these. I want to wear them all the time.

  • Greyscale replied 7 years ago

That SA is nuts. The metallic sweater is absolutely perfect for you -- look how well it goes with your hair, for one thing!

I bet it would also look good in a silver/white column, with white jeans maybe.

  • Firecracker (Sharan) replied 7 years ago

I love the shine and the snowy white and starry silver palette of this outfit. Fantastic everyday-festive look, and one worthy of going out, too. The SA's comment is cringe-worthy. Really?? Aaargh!

  • Gigi replied 7 years ago

I think the SA is off her rocker. I think you look great!

  • Archer replied 7 years ago

Joy - I understand the question and the root and route of it. I have the same question about the look. You look great in it. To generalise I think it's for me, about whether it flatters - in an overall sense. It clangs if it doesn't. This does not clang. It just works really well.

  • Tisa replied 7 years ago

This is really nice and you look great!
Especially the combinaton and the colour of the shirt and the sweater suit you so well. I don't know what SA's problem was, because this looks perfect on you.

I agree with you and Cynthia about the cardigan and also think that the scarf adds a nice touch and really pulls everything together.

  • Bennett replied 7 years ago

That SA is ridiculous and judgemental. This is a great classic sweater and shirt, and screw her or him for making you feel like you had to come up with a soothing white lie to ease their discomfort.

You have a great eye for what works on you. Don't let an immature SA's comment sway you! Good purchase, for ANY age!

  • Joy replied 7 years ago

Thank you for the encouraging comments. Bennett, that SA was very immature and may have been new. I didn't even try the things on there so she did not see me wearing them.

  • lyn67 replied 7 years ago

Love metallics all! This is so fab head to toe, shoes are especially cool!:-)

  • replied 7 years ago

I think you look great, and that SA didn't do her job well.

  • Sheila replied 7 years ago

    You look fantastic Joy !

I think that there are three separate questions.

    1. Does not look and fit you perfectly - YES !

    2. Is it too young for you ? NO !

    3. Does seeing clothing on the older generation diminish it for younger persons. GENERALLY YES

The same way we have Not Your Mother's Jean's etc..

My 16 year old won't step foot in my closet... ( and I'm afraid of her's as well ! LOL )

For the record - once she borrowed a pair of shoes for a formal dance.

At the same time... the SA should NEVER have said what she did- even if she thought it or it was misinterpreted. Indirectly offensive- and she was lucky to still make the sale.

  • Tanya replied 7 years ago

What a beautiful sparkly outfit on you, Joy.  The colors go so well with your pretty hair.  I would ignore the SA, she was both very rude and very  wrong.

  • Eliza replied 7 years ago

Like the bling and how it amps up casual; you wear it well. SA isn't ready for prime time. This look is lovely on you.

  • Aquamarine replied 7 years ago

LOL that SA is incompetent. YLF, as usual.

  • Jaime replied 7 years ago

The scarf almost looks like a necklace. Great job blinging!

  • Mirjana replied 7 years ago

How beautiful sparkly outfit on you Joy, you look fabulous great with your hair. You inspired me to try something similar with my orphan gold sparkly sweater. Thanks to share with us.

  • Beth Ann replied 7 years ago

I love this, Joy!  This combination is quite classic, actually, and if the young want to make something their own, they're going to have to stop selling classic blouses and crew neck sweaters!   I think the whole think is terrific.  The cocoon sweater does, perhaps, overwhelm the rest of the outfit a bit, but then, when it's cold one makes certain trade offs!

  • Joy replied 7 years ago

Thank you all for your comments. I will wear these pieces and not worry about being inappropriate. Shelia, I suspected that maybe the SA didn't want an old lady to wear their things and cause younger customers to have second thoughts.

  • Maneera replied 7 years ago

Beautiful as always, Joy. I'm loving silvery grey myself this winter. Just bought this scarf at H&M!

  • Joy replied 7 years ago

Thank you for showing us the scarf. I may need to find an H&M in this new-to-me area very soon.

  • cindysmith replied 7 years ago

Joy, I'm glad I could be helpful!
