Buy or not? Consignment EF coat. ETA Bought It!

I went looking for fluid tops and found this EF light weight coat. It's a light black or dark grey. I left it on hold. What do you think? It's a little over $90.

Bad question I know but do you need it? :) More bad questions :) Do you have any other coats, that do the same job, that you like more? Do you love it?

  • catgirl replied 9 years ago

It's nice! I have an EF quilted coat from consignment that has worn like iron and is very easy to wear. But as Caro said, do you need it?

  • Joy replied 9 years ago

GOOD questions, Caro and Una. It would replace an old Gap coat that is also black, a similar beltless trench that has been a workhorse, so I do have other coats that serve the same purpose...also a bright pink and a shorter medium blue light trench. I do love it but wonder if the pocket flaps will get to me in time.

No, no, no...the question is not one of need, dear ones...The question is one of want:   do you want it?...does it make your heart sing?...do you think about it all of the time and plan ways to style it?...Are you already considering what time you will leave in the morning to pick up this new love?...Rarely do we buy for need...mostly for want and I vote you follow your heart on this one...smile...

It looks lovely on you, Joy. So -- what everyone says. If you love it irrationally and can't stop thinking of it, then go for it -- but do a one-in-one-out.  If you just *like* it but it won't do anything the current coats will do, let it go. Does it move your style forward????

  • Joy replied 9 years ago

Well I would feel much more fab and stylish in this coat than the old Gap one ( bought thrifting).

Crutcher, love your exhuberance! Trouble is, my heart is often singing loudly and out of tune, when it needs to shut up and let my brain do a little thinking in peace!

  • Joy replied 9 years ago

Since they are holding it until closing tomorrow, I may wait to see how I feel about it in then. Keep the thoughts coming.

    Thumbs up. FUN. xo

    Thank you , Angie!

I love it. LOVE.  It looks wonderful on you!

It looks great on you. To replace the less fab Gap one, I say go for it. If the flaps bug you, sew some snaps on them to keep them in place--not a hard fix.

  • Joy replied 9 years ago

Ironkurtin, thank you. I do like the fit and not deep black color.
Sharan, that is a good idea. I wondered if the flaps added weight visually in a bad spot.

  • Jaime replied 9 years ago

    Looks great on you!

  • Missey replied 9 years ago

Joy- this coat fits you like a dream!  I often find great items I was not looking for when I am looking for when I am looking for something specific too...maybe we are looking for the wrong things! ;)

  • Zibbets replied 9 years ago

It's a great length and the fit seems to be spot on. Is it waterproof/water resistant? I also think Firecracker's suggestion is great.

  • Debbie replied 9 years ago

I would go for it! I think it would be a workhorse for you.

  • Joy replied 9 years ago

Thank you for commenting, Shevia, Missey, Zibbets, and Debbie. Missey, that looking for something else and finding other surprises is really a problem when I need to be shopping for gifts. Zibbets, I think it is water resistant as the fabric is coated, although soft and flexible. Good point. I need to research it although I have another coat that I use for rain. It would be good to know. Debbie, I think it would be a work horse too since the coat it would replace is. Both can be dressed up or down. I need to see how much I can layer under this EF one. Another test. It seemed roomy.

  • Glory replied 9 years ago

I would go for it - it seems classic enough to work for many years and fits you very well!

  • Joy replied 9 years ago

Glory, I think that I will. It's morning and I'm still thinking that I would be sad if it got away.

  • crutcher replied 9 years ago

Yeah...that is what I'd hoped you would say...

  • Joy replied 9 years ago

It's mine! It's not black but a charcoal grey, even better. DDIL went with me and liked another EF coat just as well on me, an unlined soft alpaca camel swing coat with a rather assymetrical look. It is more of a dramatic look and not quite my style but it is fun. I must stop thinking about coats! That's what happens when you travel without enough warm clothes :)

  • bj1111 replied 9 years ago

i love a happy ending.  did you get the ef alpaca coat too?!??

  • Joy replied 9 years ago

No, I didn't get the alpaca coat. It didn't seem like me and was also still pricey.

  • Carole replied 9 years ago

Just catching this but, YAY! Love it and also the fact it's charcoal! Score
