Art Challenge: The Balcony 2 and Arearea (Gauguin)

1-3, 7/ 8: I took my inspiration from the colors and sea in The Balcony and used deep blues and silver jewelry evoking the images in the painting.
5-7: inspiration here was both colors and theme. I used a shirt with a native woman in dreamy surroundings that reminded me of the painting.

Wow Joy, fantastic outfits and great interpretation of the paintings. The first outfit is cool, nautical and has an intensity, which the painting also has. Beautiful jewelry. The second is fun. I love how you layered the shirt over the mustard top. The colours in the outfit play so beautifully together. I don’t think I have seen you in these colours yet, or am I mistaken? You look beautiful, as always.

Lovely Joy, great interpretation, you can do wrong. I especially like blue version, perfect jewellery.

The blue looks great on you but the second outfit really captures the colors of the painting.

Thank you, Katerina, Mirjana and Shevia. I was not going to do these paintings but am glad I tried. Katerina, you have not seen those colors on me. When I was younger they were better colors for me than they are now.
The blue version is totally Eileen Fisher, except accessories.

Gorgeous jewelry! Perfect finishing touches for these outfits. I adore the first outfit, it definitely has that relaxed breezy feel of the painting. And the second using an actual figure is clever indeed. Glad you gave these paintings a go :)

I'm in love with the Gauguin-inspired outfit. Lovely colors, and I think you wear them wonderfully.

Thank you, Aida and Like the Season. I'm glad the Gauguin-inspired outfit seems to be working. It was a stretch.

Loved both outfits, specially the Gauguin inspired one.  You always choose the right accesories for every outfit, Joy.

Really nice inspired looks. Your wardrobe must really be versatile; I've seen both cool and warm colors well-represented, as well as both dressy and casual looks. I LOVE the necklace!!

  • Joy replied 5 years ago

Diana, thank you. I enjoy accessories just as much as clothing and wear some jewelry daily.
Thank you, Becky, I wear it all as color formulas do not work for me, but, in general, I tend toward warm shades. I am conflicted with dressy casual too as I prefer dressy but live a retired casual life style. The necklace is a bit out of my comfort zone, but I like it. As a necklace, the brushed metal and leather keep it a bit casual

Yes, Beth Ann, the creative aspect of forming outfits is important to me.
