Adventures in Maximalism: Casual Pattern Mixing

For fun and relief from cabin fever, I mixed a floral, a plaid and leopard and wonder what you think. The leopard jeans are actually NYDJs denim leggings, sized up. Is this too crazy?

As I can see not crazy at all, I like the outfit and that pattern mix, you look super on it. Enjoy.

    I don't think it's crazy. I like it.

If the leopard had been less subtle, more in your face, it might be a little crazy. But this works, to my eyes.

Love it! A bold mix... but certainly not crazy. We really do need some fun and color/pattern this time of year.

Thank you, Mirjana, Cynthia, and El Cee. The outfit got some looks and smiles but no comments.

Not at all crazy. Looking good.

Killer pattern mixing, you clever lady.

  • Bonnie replied 7 years ago

I like it, the mix is perfect.

The leopard is very subtle, and the white shoes and white floral help unify everything. Definitely works!

Anne, Angie, Bonnie, and La Pedestrienne, thank you for encouraging my fun with fashion.

Works for me - it's all very subtle and so...

Also, I understand how a pattern mix can be a great way to spice up a miserable day.

I like it too, what a lovely sweater!!

Pretty darn fabulous, good job!  I'd wear it.  I'm very timid about mixing patterns, so this inspiration is helpful!

If you are crazy I want to be there too! This is fabulous pattern mixing, really nice. Even the shoes have their own pattern mixing, or really more like texture mixing. What brand are they?

  • Brooklyn replied 7 years ago

Looks good to me. I think the colour of the shoes toning in with your sweater really helps to tie everything together.

Thank you, Suz.  Yes, it was fun to try something different.  I almost added a navy paisley bandana scarf.

Sally, the sweater was a wildcard that has been wonderful.  It's a light weight pullover from Joie that I found last year to bring more style to my casual everyday wear.

Xtabay, I understand the fear of mixing which was why I hesitated to put all this together.  There were some failures like trying my blue leopard blouse or cardigan with these jeans.  Not a good look.

Thank you, Chris.  The shoes are AG from last year.  They are so comfortable.

Brooklyn, thank you for pointing out what makes this work and why.  I think you are right.  A bit of white or cream is key.

Thank you, Shevia. It's what can happen when a bunch of stuff gets tossed on the bed. :)
