30X30 Week 3 (Added Friday and thoughts)

My 30x30 week ( I will add Friday when I get a photo) was built around my 30x30 pieces and the July 4th holiday. I especially need input on the Long sleeved topper on Saturday and Sunday. It is a perfect weight for summer but I don't want to keep it if it is too short. I invision more high waisted bottoms in the near future and hope that it will work with those. I bought it thinking of Sunday's striped skirt outfit, it is a very similar fabric but wider stripe. Does this work? The same piece is worn on Saturday as a topper over a column of navy and as a "scarf" as the day got warmer. Does this look ok?
Saturday: (1-4) EF midnight (navy) pants and silk she'll with EF striped top as topper. 3 is just pants and shell. 4 is black linen dress worn as a topper.
Sunday: EF linen stripe shell and skirt with tomato red cardi, white flats, red bag, narrow white with black dots scarf, white web belt. Please look at #7. Does the stripe topper work?
Monday: (8/9). Tomato red knit top with EF navy ankle pants, white jean jacket, athletic white flats.
Tuesday July 4th: (10) EF navy ankle pants, Tahari silk top in red, white and blue, white D'Orsay flats.
Wednesday: (11/12). Denim shorts with EF black linen assemmetrical top, silver sneakers, sun hat
Thursday: (13-15): Gap wide leg crops, tomato red tee, white web belt, polka dotted scarf, white athletic flats.
Your comments and suggestions are welcomed!
ETA: Friday: (16-17). The butterfly patterned top and released hem jeans, black ankle strap flats. 17 is not what I wore but included to get your opinion. I have on an open shirt waist dress as a duster over the outfit. Does it work or have possibilities? I wear the dress buttoned up over skinny pants as a casual outfit. The dress is not part of my 30 items. I will add musings separately.
What I have learned this week: (1). I have been tracking wears and have seen some surprises. By far my most worn shoes are the silver sneakers, then the white athletic flats. I thought it would be the black ankle strap flats but they are the least worn. I think this is because the ankle straps are fussy to put on and take off and are not as casual as the most worn. We are often in houses, including ours, where outdoor shoes are not worn inside. I would slap rather wear more casual shoes for walks ( usually on gritty gravel trails). I need quick off and on to empty out sharp stones that get inside the shoes. Before the challenge, I was planning to add more ankle strap flat. Now I don't think so.
(2.). I really do need color and pattern to be happiest. Adding the bright tomato red tee last week, I see that it was worn 5 times! It is the color, not that it is a tee. My white one was not worn at all in this time. I also used a red bag once.
(3). I hesitate to wear white/bone pieces in my 30/30 and seem to want to save them for events. Most of these have not been worn at all. I am glad that I have them but may remove them from the 30/30. Maybe event clothing should be exempt for me. I am not even wearing them smart casually, I think to keep them clean.
(4). I am missing a third piece on these warm days and have been using some jewelry or small scarves exempted from the 30x30, but am trying to use only a couple in the spirit of the challenge.
(5). With the changes I made last week, I am not yet bored and don't mind repeating what I like.
Applause to anyone who makes it through all this description and musing!

All outfits are great, lovely dress and stylied it perfect. I can't choice favorite, but like white pants and red top , nice color on you and also so sweet with hat. So stylish Joy.

Your outfits are so well put together Joy.  I really like the stripped long sleeved top in #1.  It looks great with the pants.  I am not as fond of it with the dress but it still looks fine.  The top looks like something that would be very useful for summer.  I think I like it best with the dark pants and dark tank.

I'm enjoying these posts, Joy, even though I'm not participating myself.  You have put together some lovely, varied outfits, but my favourites are 1-4.

Great outfits Joy. I like the striped crop top in both outfits. Cropped sweaters are handy for higher waist bottoms and for wearing over dresses. Clever of you to wear a dress as a jacket.

    I love #7! It's my favourite.
Also love #1, over the navy column : you styled that top successfully.

I am very happy that the long sleeved linen top looks ok in these outfits. It is such a perfect weight for summer that I would consider getting one in a plain neutral if I find one.

Another great week, Joy. Actually quite a fabulous week. You have managed a variety of different (and flattering) profiles. The top is a keeper - and #7 is brilliant styling. #4 and #8 stand out for me as well.

Joy, the striped top works.  I was trying to pick a favorite, but I can't.  I love all the outfits.  I wonder how you manage to have so much variety with just 30 pieces.  I need to learn from you.

  • replied 6 years ago

OMG.  You look adorable!!!!!!!!! I can pick a favorite.  I loved numbers 1 through 4.  I don't think the striped top is too short.

  • Angie replied 6 years ago

    YOU ARE SOOO SUPER CUTE.

    *pinching those cheeks*

Joy, I especially like how light shoes bookend your hair, and how the striped cropped top works with the skirt/dress, (it's too short to wear with jeans and pants).

#7 and #8 are my Killer faves.

You really know how to encourage an old lady! Thank you, Runcarla, Dianna, Sterling and Angie. My, Killer faves have made my day. I forgot to say that I am a pre-showered mess on Friday as we wanted to get a long walk in early. I wear that hat daily. It doesn't often make it into a photo because it is kept in a hall coat closet.

You had a great week, Joy!  I am really impressed by the variety that you've created.  And I think you had some really valuable insights about the clothing and number of wears--I'm probably going to come back to read/reflect again on your observations.

  • Joy replied 6 years ago

Thank you for your kind comment, Emily. I usually think I have a good idea how much I wear something. With only a few pieces to count, I was way off, especially when not wearing shoes two days in a row.

  • skylurker replied 6 years ago

Love #16, that floral top is pretty on you, and I like ankle pants with ankle straps.
I don't like dresses as dusters, denim or otherwise, I'd prefer a fluid trenchcoat for a similar look.

  • Joy replied 6 years ago

Skylurker. Thank you for addressing the dress as duster. The idea always sounds better than it looks. I will have a dress as duster outfit in my next group that I wore to early Mass today as a restyling of 30x30 pieces for something different but am not sold on the idea. Next time I will try a trench if the weather is not too warm as I exempted coats.
I'm glad that you like that top. It is cool and breezier than a tee on a hot day.

Joy- you look great in every picture and I also cannot choose a favourite.  You create variety in colour and shape, patten, stripe and solids.

I was deliberately using more accessories to try and lift some "plain" looks into more interesting ones.  It has helped me realise what accessories I enjoy and I have finally started wearing earrings again after a small break (not daily though, my ears just do not cope sadly).

I understand your like for colour and pattern, and a wariness around light neutrals (in terms of wear and laundry).   I always think you look wonderful in dove greys and whites and creams, but I also think you suit the column of simple black as well.  I guess it is just getting the balance right because there is no doubt that neutrals are easier to remix.

  • Joy replied 6 years ago

Sal, your comment means a lot to me. I need to follow your example and use more accessories to create interest with plain outfits. Earrings are my favorite summer accessory because they can add interest without adding warmth. This challenge is teaching me more about neutral outfits.

Joy, you look wonderful. I love the striped crop top especially with the skirt in #7, and no wonder you love red -- it loves you!

I was curious/ interested in your reluctance to use white or bone items. I do not share this reluctance and I wonder why -- maybe it is weather/ conditions related because I do hesitate in our winter (with slushy, mucky ground.) In summer, though, unless it is pouring rain, I wear and carry the white items and they don't seem to get too dirty. Of course most are casual and can be machine washed anyway.

  • Joy replied 6 years ago

Thank you , Suz. I need to think about this reluctance more but it seems to stem from the value of these items to me and the really casual, often grubby, conditions of my current lifestyle. With only 30 items, not all of which are comfortable in hot weather, it can mean that things I want to wear are needing to be washed or are not dry yet. I wear my white denim, but hesitate to wear white silk, even though I wash it. DGS is often at our house and it means that I will be sitting on the floor or ground, carrying him when he has grubby little hands and sometimes he has potty training accidents. I hesitate to subject some items of clothing to this. If I were just shopping or running errands, I would be ok. Today is a trip into Denver to buy some shelves. I will wear some white.
