Joy--look how strongly your preference for Eileen Fisher clothes is reflected in your list!  Did you anticipate that?  I've watched your WIW postings and realized that you have some EF pieces, but I didn't realize that they would outweigh other brands so markedly.

I was just about to say what Emily said -- look at all the EF pieces in that capsule!!

Emily and Suz, my EF pieces have been chosen carefully and I wanted to wear favorites for this challenge as I would be repeating things. I really wanted to include my EF shoes, but resisted. In my first list I had even more but cut some thinking the weather may be too hot. I also let DDIL borrow a whole bunch as they are forgiving in the mid section, during her pregnancy.

YAY Joy.  I was happy to see so many Eileen Fisher pieces in your wardrobe.  You might not know it, but it was YOU that introduced me to the brand.  I came to love it from viewing your WIWs.  Now I own several pieces and I am love them.

I noticed all the Eileen Fisher pieces too.  Wow.  Interesting to see what everyone is picking for their capsules.

I hope you'll be posting your outfits from the challenge! Love this stuff!!!

  • Joy replied 6 years ago

Carole, will try to post outfits and get up an updated group of finds.
Thank you, Sterling and Style Fan. Day 1 and I'm wearing a linen/nylon striped sweater (18) over the white cropped jeans(14), the white belt (30) and silver sneakers (23) to hopefully pick up the silver grommets and hard wear of the belt. On the agenda is a day at the Denver Botanical Gardens, so lots of walking. It is a cool morning, hence the pullover. High in low 80'sF with low humidity. Must remember sun hat(29). Bag(28).

Good for you, Joy!!!  Day 1 was successful for all of us. I told some of the very young interns at work what I was doing.  They were very encouraging.  That made me feel even better about this challenge.

Emily and LeP suggested posting weekly threads summarizing how we did during the week.  We can post pictures/narratives/lessons learned.  Whatever strikes your fancy.

Looking forward to seeing your progress.  Oh, and I ordered a black EF knit top on eBay.  I have three empty slots and I thought the black knit would fill one of those slots quite nicely.

I would die happy with an entire EF wardrobe :)

  • Joy replied 6 years ago

Sterling, I had mixed feelings about Day 1. I was wishing I'd kept a floral top in the 30 for the Botanical Gardens. I also wish I had a vest. You were wise to have those empty slots.
I hope your new black EF top works out for you. Most of my pieces are EBay, thrifted, or from a Clear the Rack sale.
Lisa, me too! I would feel so elegant.

You know, Joy, I was thinking that the 30 x 30 is supposed to be a learning experience for each of us.  Substitutions should be allowed if we find that an item fails us.  We learned a lesson and pivoted.  Is that so wrong?

I have NEVER had any luck at Clear the Rack sales.  I am overwhelmed by the crowds.  I can't seem to think or focus.  I leave just escape.

  • Joy replied 6 years ago

Sterling, I may need to make a substitution. Thank you for the suggestion. I am thinking that the weather was cooler when I made my choices and, if it gets very hot, I may be in trouble. I am going to keep to my list for at least this week, but this has been a learning experience already.
Clear the Rack sales can be dangerous temptations. I try to keep a list of what I really need and look specifically for that. Sometimes it is better to go back mid week after a sale is over and items have been marked down again. I think the sales are good for pricey items, as they are often the things left. The fact that one still has 90 days to return purchases helps, so I often buy to try out at home and avoid the crowded dressing room area. Last sale I came home with a pair of EF shoes that I am still evaluating. They would fill a hole for a modern black pump, but are a half size larger than I usually wear, and have a bit more of a heel. I may have sale blinders. They were 85% off plus 25% off that, so ended up at less than $30. I also got a Chantel summer ( breathable) bra in navy for $9, but left a beautiful embroidered top that I am still thinking about. I don't need it but love it.

I was going through my list and realized that I'd not hung some of my 30 items with the rest. I am in better shape than I thought. I added most of the finds I have to this post and need to work on the rest.
Today is mostly babysitting and maybe getting out to plant some flower seeds. I am starting out in black EF...skinny knit pants and linen assemetrical shell, black ankle strap flats. For me this is very plain but I like it. Will post a week of photos and musings at a time and stop whining.

    You are not whining.
