Double denim #2: the chambray top, grey version

After reading Angie's blog this morning, I was inspired to try double denim. For a top I used an older grey chambray shirt from Nordstrom a couple of years ago. Jeans are from NAS and I've never worn then with the big cuff before, but thought it echoes the grey of the shirt. Grey lace less Cons and a stone necklace finish the outfit. Shall I lose the cuffs? Is this too much grey? Stumpifying? I apologize for the rumpled appearance. It is the end of the day. I would love to have your thoughts and suggestions.

Joy I like the idea of the big cuff. Maybe it's the angle of the photo, but I think this is a little big? I'm not sure I've mastered it either so maybe perfect pant length expert Angie can help that part. Otherwise you've fit the bill for denim on denim.

I like the outfit and think all the elements are great but like Jjsloane think the cuffs might be a bit big.  other than that...great outfit and you've inspired me to try my own one tomorrow.

I would also try this with a smaller cuff.   I like the main idea of the outfit and the elements go well together.   I am curious how this would look with more dainty shoes- perhaps something in silver?

I like the overall concept of the outfit, and even the idea of a big cuff… but I think Tanya is on to something. The big cuff plus the sneakers looks a bit "heavy" to my eye. Perhaps either a narrower cuff or changing up the shoes (lighter color and, as Tanya said, daintier) might make this better proportionally. By the way, that stone necklace is gorgeous. It looks beautiful paired with the grays.

I was going to say the cuff seemed too big for me too. Otherwise it's a cool outfit with all the pieces coming together.

Those jeans are a nice fit on you.  I like the version where you show your ankle and I am echoing the chorus to suggest a smaller cuff.

I like length of the pants in the second photo, but agree the cuff is too deep.  Otherwise, a winner!

Thank you for your thoughtful comments. The big cuff was out of my comfort zone, although I do have white jeans made with the big cuff. The tone -on-tone of the white ones is less jarring. Tanya, I like your thoughts about a more dainty shoe and almost changed into silver ballet flats.

I like all the greys together - the shirt, jeans and shoes.  I don't think you look stumpy at all.  Beautiful necklace.

    You cutie patootie.

    I love gray-outs!
I think the cuff contrast is great, but I think this roll looks too deep, more as a proportion thing--can you double up? Of course if one is going for a particular trend then maybe my eye needs to adjust!

Nicely done, Joy, and I love you in gray denim tones. Yes, I tried the big cuff, too, and had to go with a smaller roll.

    Cool kid!

Thank you for your comments. I don't feel alone in my fear of the big cuff :).
Sara, I love this necklace but it is heavy. I want to wear it a lot before it gets too hot.
Angie, thank you for the compliment. My parotid isn't such a cutie any more. More of a flatootie :).
Unfrumped and Vicki, I will try a smaller roll. I posted because my eye has not adjusted to a large cuff.
Rachylou, you are the coolest kid on the block.

I like this outfit a lot, Joy! It's a keeper--put on the repeat list. As to the cuff width--did you compare it to the one on your white jeans that came that way? It does look a little wide to me here, but it could be the camera angle. If it's wider than on the white ones, you could always just do a double cuff. I like the idea of cuffing the jeans in this outfit, one way or the other.

PLEASE don't loose the cuff it makes the fit.

  • Joy replied 8 years ago

Sharan, that's a good idea to compare the cuff widths. The white Joe's Jeans pair that came that way have 4.25 inches turned up. I had a higher cuff on the grey ones.
Ladonna, I will keep that in mind. It would be fun to have a couple of new ways to wear jeans for summer.
